Things and goings-ons...

I had a 2009 Volkswagon Tiguan. It was Sapphire Blue. It was a mini-SUV with the engine of a Passat. I loved that car. But now, it's gone.

In return, I have a 1.9% interest rate (as opposed to a 5.9% one) and a 2010 Volkswagon Tiguan. It is Wild Cherry Red. And it doesn't have the fuel problems that my last car did. That's why we traded it in in the first place.

Oh, and it's a Wolfsberg edition.

Other than that, classes have started...they're going well, for the most part. I have a lot of horseshit work that I'm going to have to do but other than that, they should be fine. I'm not really worried about my classes, other than keeping up with all the reading.

And then there's the yarn diet...which is going well. I'm having major temptations right now because Sarah, AKA "The Plucky Knitter" is doing a preview and update today and tomorrow. I am so so so tempted to go nuts! But, she'll be at the KnitIn in March...and I've allowed myself to buy yarn at the KnitIn so, I just have a few more weeks to wait, right? But still...

Speaking of yarn, which leads me to knitting, I'm almost done with my sweater. I just have to finish the sleeves (I'm about 1/3 of the way done with both), put it all together, and do the neck and I am done! Woo-hoo! I'll post pictures of it when I'm closer to being done. I've also almost finished my first sock. It's of my own design but that's fine. I also learned, along the way, that when I knit in the round, I hold the needles I'm working from in the wrong place...so whatever I'm knitting winds up being inside out. For my sock, this wasn't a bad thing because there's no specific pattern to it so I'll just turn it right-side out when I'm done...but if I were doing a specific pattern, it would be wrong. I'm glad I learned that when I did.

I've also started cataloging my yarn on Ravelry. I didn't realize how much of it I really had...and then I started cataloging it. It's kind of scary, actually.

Anyway, I need to finish up my School of Education application, print some things, and get going. I have class at 5:30 but I have things I need to get done on campus long before then.

Somethings never change...

I'm going on a yarn diet. It's been a week and a half since I decided this. It's going well. I've not even been tempted. I haven't had time to be tempted. Classes started this week. I've only had two of my four classes thus far. My child psychology class is going to be fun...I'm not so sure about my applied behavioral analysis class. I think that one is going to be a right pain in my ass. I have psychology again today and I have individuals with learning and behavioral disabilities. We'll see how that one goes...

I went to the OB/GYN yesterday. Nothing new to report...just that I need to get rid of some of this weight (again - nothing new). When I got home, I noticed that the house was cold. Granted, I'm normally cold...but this went a bit beyond. I checked the thermostat and it said it was 64 in the house...we don't set the thing for any lower than 68. Guess what? The furnace is broken. Now, if this was the furnace that was put in when the house was built in 1992, I wouldn't be surprised. However, this is the furnace that was put in January 5, 2009. It's a furnace that is 380 days old...a little over one year. It's brand-spanking-new...and the damn thing doesn't work! So, I went up to the place that installed the furnace and I talked to them. They had someone here at 7:30 this morning to work on it. He thinks it's either the module that controls the blower or the blower itself that isn't working. I'm not very happy. We just had the air conditioner (which was replaced the same day as the furnace) fixed in June because something was wrong with it. I'm about ready to scream! Hopefully it'll get fixed today and we can be warm again. This cold house is beginning to suck a lot.

Anyway, that's about all I have for right now...maybe next time I'll post some pictures of what's going on in my little world.

Hatian Earthquake's First U.S. Victim

Hatian Earthquake's First U.S Victim

I admit, I did not know Ben well, hardly at all to be honest. I knew him by association, though friends and acquaintances. I heard him singing across campus, in hallways, and in stairwells. I new him by reputation, active in FOCUS, and one of those people who's love for life and God shot across the world.

For as little as I knew about him, I feel very saddened that the world has lost such a wonderful person, that his parents, wife, and friends will never know that again. It just reminds me that no matter how far we try to go, we always have roots at home.

Time for a diet...

It's official. I am on a yarn diet. No more buying yarn for a good, long while. However, an exception to this is if I run out of yarn before I finish the project; then I can buy enough yarn to finish the project. Another exception is the KnitIn. That's just a given. The only thing I'm allowed to buy from a yarn store are needles (which I don't really need either) and a ball winder. I have enough yarn to last me quite awhile...and I do not have a bunch of income so I shouldn't be buying yarn in the first place.

So, yarn diet.

And I went to my first Guild meeting tonight...probably the only one I'll get to this year because of classes. I had fun, I learned things, I bought entirely too much stuff, and I've decided that baby things are cute. Oh, and my sock grew significantly. Love it. I'm sad I won't be able to go again for a long while...classes start next Tuesday.

That is all.

Dirty 30...

So, it's happened. I'm no longer someone in my roaring 20s...I've hit the dirty 30s. Damn.

Happy birthday, to me. Stupid snow.

And survey says.....

3.625 semester GPA (and a 3.364 overall). Yeah, I rocked the semester. I had two "A's," an "AB" (whatever the bob that is), and a "B." I think that's a pretty good semester, right?

In other random events, the event known as "The Death of My Youth" (i.e., the day I turn 30) is occurring this Thursday. We're not doing much for the actual day but we're headed to Chicago for the weekend to partake in some Medieval Times and probably go to Ikea (if only because we really like that place).

Christmas came and went...we spent the day with Brian's sister and brother-in-law and then we went to Brian's aunt's/uncle's house for the rest of the day. New Years was spent at work (for me)...not that I minded. Extra money is always good, right? Now, if only I could manage to keep a hold of it. Hrm.

Oh, and knitting? You want to know about knitting? I made a hat over the weekend. I'm still working on that sweater. And I put a lifeline in the shawl that I'm making for Sherri...which I'm damn glad about because I had to rip back about 8 rows the other day. So, this was a good thing. I just wish I had used a better yarn for the lifeline...oh well.

I think I should wander off...I need to get some sleep because I'm getting old. Or something that resembles that.
