Knit & Crochet Blog Week: Day 5 - Friday

Day Five: Friday, 1st April. And now for something completely different
This is an experimental blogging day to try and push your creativity in blogging to the same level that you perhaps push your creativity in the items you create.
There are no rules of a topic to blog about (though some suggestions are given below) but this post should look at a different way to present content on your blog. This can take one of many forms, but here a few suggestions:

  • Wordless, photographic post
  • Video blog post
  • Podcast
  • Cartoon/sketch of an idea
  • Write about a subject from a different perspective (for example, you could write about a day in the life of a knitted sock from the point of view of the sock).
  • Interpretive modern dance (why does someone always suggest this?)
  • A poem or piece of rhyming verse
  • Stop motion animation
Tips: The actual subject matter of the post might be quite dependent on the media method(s) you choose to use and as such there is no specific ‘topic’ to blog on. You could blog about a recently completed project, a knitting experience, a trip to the LYS or anything else that takes your fancy. The point behind this post is to get people thinking about using their blogs in different ways and pushing he boundaries of what they use their blogging platform for.
PS: Yes, it is April Fool’s Day, so have fun with the post.

I wish I could have fun with this post...it is April Fools Day, after all. I was thinking of posting random pictures of my stash or photos of Little Man with his hats on...

Unfortunately, this was not to be the case.

For anyone who came here to read between 12:05am and now (5:40am), you may have noticed that there was nothing here except the topic. The reason for that is that I have been sitting in a hospital since noon yesterday. I have all my topics pre-set and all I have to do is come in and actually write before the scheduled posting at 12:05am (CDT - my local time)...and things magically appear :)

So, why have I been sitting in a hospital since noon yesterday? My son. Little Man decided yesterday that he just did not want to eat. He's been sick...it sounded like a cold, it behaved like a cold...apparently it isn't a cold. He's been coughing and has been congested. Okay, that's not unusual for a 5 month old. The problem is that he wasn't eating. For most kids, again, this is normal...but, Little Man has that weird genetic disorder. For those of you that are unaware, he has a disorder acronymed "VLCADD" and it's a metabolic disorder. If he doesn't eat, especially when he's sick, he could get really sick and potentially die. This disorder may be one of the underlying causes of SIDS. Anyway, because he wasn't eating, we called the geneticist we deal with at the University and he told us to bring him in. Unfortunately, the people in the ER are unable to read. We have an ER protocol if he ever presents in the ER. They basically ignored it. We called him again because they were ignoring the protocol. His office is right down the hill. He was here in 5 minutes and basically ripped them a new one. We still spent about 7 hours in the ER before they admitted him.

It's been a long, sleepless night. Everyone that comes in/out of the room is wearing masks and, sometimes, the full scrub cover thingies.

Remember I said that it sounded like a cold and behaved like a cold...but it wasn't a cold? They took chest x-rays of Little Man and, aside from discovering that his liver is on the wrong side, it looked like he may have pneumonia (viral). But.....they couldn't be sure. So, he's on "RSV watch." They're not sure if it's RSV or viral pneumonia. RSV for an adult is like getting the cold from hell...but for children, especially small children, it can be dangerous, and then you take a kid who's got a suppressed immune system (kids with cancer or HIV or some other autoimmune disease)...it's not good. We're basically not allowed to go anywhere except to the elevators and out the door.

He's got IV fluids, I'm trying to feed him every 3 hours, he's tired and crabby...and mommy and daddy aren't doing so well either.

So, no, this post has nothing to do with knitting. My knitting is with me...I don't think I'm going to get anything done, though. Oh well.

Maybe tomorrow.
