A Week Gone By...

It's been crazy in this house for the last week. Of course, for those of you that remember (here and here, for reference), we picked up Peter last week. For a puppy, he's really good. He basically lays around most of the day, occasionally plays (with or without us), eats, sleeps, and makes. He's a dog...very docile and well behaved. We had him at Husband's parents' house and he ran around the backyard with their dog (an 80+ lb golden retriever)...and jumped on her and tried to get her to play (she wasn't having it). Then he climbed up on the couch with Husband and slept. He's a good puppy.

Little Man has figured out how to get from his back or belly up into a sitting position...without props. He's also a click away from crawling. Ever since we brought Puppy home, Little Man has been wanting to chase him around the house...except he can't. He's started getting up on his hands and knees and rocking. He's not quite sure how to propel himself forward without falling on his face. He doesn't move his hands. He's so cute.

In the land of knitting...well, I've been blessed this last week. I joined the Random Acts of Kindness group on Ravelry and people have been gifting me patterns (mostly). I've been informed that I have a box coming, too! I've also been gifting things, as well (patterns). I also received two packages from the same swap. One of them was an angel package because my original swap package never arrived......and, of course, no sooner than the first package arriving on my door step, I get an e-mail from my swap partner that said that the package was returned to her while she was on vacation and she re-sent it. It arrived about four days later. *sigh* So, now I have two packages...and I feel bad. I got two while everyone else got one. So, for my angel, I'm going to put together a package for her and send her something fun and lovely :)

Anyway, someone cute...

The insanity never ends...

This is going to be rather short and no pictures....

We got a puppy yesterday...an 11 week old, purebred, male Brittany that we have decided to call "Peter" though I suspect his full name will probably be "Peter Löwenbräu Griffin, III," if the American Kennel Club approves it. We had to drive south of the Quad Cities to pick him up (a good 8 hour, round trip) in Burlington, Iowa. They had four puppies: three boys and a girl. We knew we didn't want the girl (I don't particularly feel like dealing with a bitch in heat, if you know what I mean) so we had the three boys to choose from. The one we picked was the most docile of the three, plus he listens, and he did extremely well with Little Man. He's a little bit of a chewer but that's what the bitter spray is for. He had some trouble with the car ride but we expected that. We don't know if he pooped or puked but it was still icky to clean up. We were lucky though: he didn't go rolling around in it. I mean, he got a little icky but nothing that baby wipes didn't take care of. He had a bath when we got home because he smelled like pee...I think he's going to have to have another one because he still kind of smells like pee. We'll see.

Other than that, life is the same...just a lot more cleaning involved. Hrm.

I'll post pictures next time.

Edited: the breeder told us the puppy was 7 weeks....based on the birth date of the puppy, he's really 11 weeks. Why the discrepancy? No idea.

Brief #133

video

So, Little Man started doing this today. We've been doing it to him for months...apparently it rubbed off (sorry for the crappy lack of color - it was difficult enough to hold him and try to shoot video, do you really think I care that you couldn't see much?).

Oh, and a picture of him cheesin' for the camera...because, why not?

Brief #132

So.....this is my 132nd post. I somehow managed to miss my 100th post, my 1 year anniversary, and I'll probably forget my 2 year anniversary on August 17th...12 days before my 2 year anniversary of marriage.

Hmmm....

So, what's going on in my world?

Well, this, for starters:

We had nasty wicked storms go through early on Monday morning...70+ MPH winds, lots of rain, the whole thing. Luckily, not tornado weather. But, it was still a nasty storm. I didn't even notice my little tree had fallen over until I got back from a trip to Wal*Mart. I was sitting on the couch, looking out the porch windows when it occurred to me that "something" wasn't right with my view. I could see my tree but it wasn't in the right place. So, I picked up Little Man and we went to investigate.

Turns out that the pussywillow tree was rotting from the inside out and it was bound to break in high winds...which is exactly what happened.

So, no more pussywillow tree in my backyard. At least it was far enough away from the house, even if it was only 7' high...and at least it wasn't the weeping willow. I think I would have cried if that one had come down.

Weeping willows were my grandmother's favorite trees. At every house they owned here in town, my grandfather planted one for her. The one in the backyard (which you can see along the fence line in the above photograph) has something wrong with it...it's dying very slowly. I'm not sure it can be saved or not and I don't have the money (yet) to have someone investigate it. If it dies, I'm going to plant another one in a better location because this was their house and she loved weeping willows.

The pussywillow, on the other hand.....well, let's just say I'm not sorry it's gone. It was kind of a PITA to deal with every year with the trimming of the branches and the endless little seedlings on the ground.

In other random news, Husband seems to be doing okay after his surgery. He still has trouble bending over to do anything, which means that Little Man can't be on the floor or in the pack-n-play with him because he won't be able to pick him up. It also means he has difficulty emptying and filling the bottom rack of the dishwasher. Other than that, he's pretty much back to normal.

Little Man is teething horribly. He's got a total of 7 anywhere from poked through to fully in and I think he's got a couple more coming. Seriously, he gets his teeth in, at least, pairs...but lately in 3s and 4s. Poor kid. He's so cranky. He doesn't want to jump, he doesn't want to swing, he doesn't want to play in the pack-n-play, he doesn't want to be held, he doesn't want to roll around on the floor, he doesn't want to eat, he doesn't want his bottle, his diapers are dry, he doesn't want to nap, he doesn't want to play in his crib.....it seems like there's nothing I can do to soothe him. I kept hearing about Hyland's Teething Tablets but they were taken off the market...something about rat poison. Tylenol only works so well and for so long.

*sigh*

It's going to be a long couple of days (weeks?) with him teething.

Oh, and on the knitting front......well, the giraffe has a head, body, and legs all attached. The ears are done but not attached. Other than that, I have to make the tail, horns, "hair" (poms), and spots and he'll be done. I haven't photographed it but I should get on that...

Other than the giraffe, I have swap stuff that I should be doing but, well, my blog was feeling neglected. Oh, and I'm plotting a large-scale blanket for Project Linus but that probably won't happen for quite awhile. I have so many other things to finish before then...

And I have cast-on-itis again. I want to make something small and quick...

Hrm.

Someone cute :) And yes, this was taken today.
