Self-Imposed Year of Projects: Update #18

It's Sunday again...and that means it's time for another installment of my Self-Imposed Year of Projects. I'm not headed into my 18th week and things are....well, they're going at a snail's pace but they're still moving forward.

Well, some things are moving forward...other things are going backwards. ::sigh::

Let's start off, as we often do, with.....

FINISHED OBJECTS
1. Claudia: started January 3, 2012; finished January 10, 2012
2. Mama's Simple Skyp Socks: started May 22, 2011; finished January 9, 2012
3. Little Man's Cobblestone Baby Blanket: started July 2010; finished February 2, 2012
4. Dalek Dishcloth: started February 6, 2012; finished February 8, 2012
5. Baby Traveling Vines Socks: started September 18, 2010; finished February 17, 2012
6. Snail Hat: started February 18, 2012; finished February 19, 2012
7. Lothlorien Hat: started January 25, 2012; finished March 5, 2012

The last item I actually finished was a month ago. I'm kind of sad about this. I was hoping I'd have another hat to add to the list but I just haven't finished it yet. I'll get there...snail's pace...

WORKS-IN-PROGRESS
1. Little Man's Giraffe: started May 11, 2011
2. Icarus Shawl: Started March 15, 2010
3. Honey Badger Don't Give a Shit Socks: started January 23, 2012
4. Pine Forest Baby Blanket: started February 21, 2012
5. Hermione's Everyday Socks: started March 6, 2012
6. Habitat: started April 10, 2012

I have 16 rows left in my Habitat hat and I have started the decreases. Granted, at this point I'm only losing 10 stitches every other row but that's still progress toward being finished. I had hoped to have this finished before May even started so I would be on track for my 12 Hats in 2012....but I'm a little late. I think I'll have to work on a "quick" hat to make up for the lost time.

I have, however, had a turning point with my Pine Forest Baby Blanket. I basically ran out of the pink yarn so I'm back to the green. I'm still only on the first skein of the last three but it's okay. I have until approximately July 1st to finish everything and get it shipped out since the baby is coming on July 9th (yes, that's a definite...unless she decides to come sooner). That's plenty of time.

I still haven't managed to try on my Honey Badger socks yet. I don't want to have to frog them...so I'm avoiding trying them on. ::sigh::

I'm almost ready for the heel part of the Hermione's Everyday Socks, too.....almost.

Anyway, moving on....

In other news, for those of you keeping track at home, Husband has been in San Francisco for a job interview. He flew out Thursday afternoon from Madison to Minneapolis and then from Minneapolis to San Francisco. Both planes were running late...which wasn't a huge deal on the way there. We had some pretty wicked storms in the area so I'm not surprised. By the time he got to the hotel, it was 9pm (his local time - so it was 11pm here). His interview was on Friday. I spent the day out and about with the lovely lady that rents my condo (aka "Nana"). Little Man, Nana, and I went to the yarn store and out to lunch, then Little Man fell asleep in the car so we took a meandering drive around the countryside. I showed her the farm we were planning to buy and build a house on (had Husband not lost his job). She could see why we wanted it. I'm still bummed about that. Seriously. After we got home, Little Man had some food, and then we went back out to the grocery store, and then to dinner. By the time we got home around 7:15pm, we still hadn't heard from Husband. He finally sent me a text message around 5:15pm (his time) and said that he had a seven hour interview. Yes, you read that correctly: seven hours. He was interviewed by eight people, gave a couple presentations, and was totally exhausted. While he was on the phone with me, the recruiter called so he talked to the recruiter and called me back. The recruiter had talked to four of the eight people that interviewed him and all four said, "hire him." Soooooo.......that's a good thing. I'm still not holding my breath but it's still a good thing. The one thing we'd really be hoping for is help with relocation but it doesn't sound like that's something they do anymore...not that we can't do it ourselves but it would have been nice to have some help. Oh well. We'll deal with it if it comes to that.

Anyway, that's all I have this week. Perhaps a WIP Wednesday is in order....or maybe I'll actually have something to show off for FO Friday.

Or not.

  4. Hats really speed up when you start the decreases, so I'm sure it'll be done soon. You know you HAVE TO try on the socks, right?! Better to know than not.

Fingers crossed for your husband. I'd be wiped after an hour long interview, never mind SEVEN!

  6. OMGosh, a seven hour interview? Ho boy; how exhausting for him. I love how four really liked him. Good luck to him. I can't believe you may be moving here!
You have really awesome WIPs, Renee! I like how you're using heavier weight yarn for the Icarus Shawl; the colorway is so interesting! The cabling of Habitat is so amazing. I have always found cables so classy and timeless.

  7. oh, good luck to your husband, and to you with all the waiting. I'm sure he will be hired soon. I am in complete awe as to how you keep track of all those projects, let alone progress so many of them whilst keeping home together whilst your husband is away interviewing.
