Self-Imposed Year of Projects: Update #21

Another Sunday, another Self-Imposed Year of Projects update, right? I'm headed into my twenty-first week. I figured out that I'm exactly six months behind the regular group.

Not that it matters. It was just grand to know.

Again, nothing has changed here. And that's perfectly fine.

WORKS-IN-PROGRESS
1. Little Man's Giraffe: started May 11, 2011
2. Icarus Shawl: Started March 15, 2010
3. Honey Badger Don't Give a Shit Socks: started January 23, 2012
4. Pine Forest Baby Blanket: started February 21, 2012
5. Hermione's Everyday Socks: started March 6, 2012
6. Sweet Girl's Hippo: started May 10, 2012

I've got probably thirteen repeats and the border rows left on the blanket. I worked on it a little bit the other night after Little Man went to bed. I'm also plugging along on the Hippo. I brought it to my allergy shot a few days ago and I'm almost ready to start the decreases on the body...which means I'm probably going to have to head to JoAnn Fabrics and Walgreens to pick up a few supplies. I have stuffing but I need to get some polypellets (from JoAnn's) and some knee-high nylons (to put said polypellets in). I'm still working on the double gusset heel on the first of my Everyday Socks and I'll finish that soon. I should just do that. Perhaps tonight after Little Man goes to bed.

PLANNED HATS
1. Hermione Hearts Ron
2. Ogre Babies!
3. NIN Hat
4. Brandon Ribbed Beanie
5. Godric's Hollow Hat
6. Raglan Hat
7. Bergen Street Tuque
8. Nolan
9. Simple Baby Cap #1
10. Candy Cane
11. Little Pumpkin

OTHER PLANNED PROJECTS
1. Freeport Vest
2. My Little Slug
3. Shaun (as in Shaun the Sheep)
4. Curly Snake
5. Penelope the Empathetic Monster
6. A new version of my Vanilla Socks, perhaps in a worsted weight...
7. Adipose (I have it somewhere; this is my Ravelympics 2012 project for Team Tardis, by the way)

I think I've figured out what I'm going to do about my planned projects. I have some two-gallon ziplock bags and I think I'm going to use one bag per project on the larger ones or ones that come from the same source (like putting the yarn, needles, and book that I'll be using for the Simple Baby Cap, Candy Cane, and Little Pumpkin hats all into the same bag). Then I'll put the bags into a bin of their own, probably with other knitting supplies that I may or may not need and make sure that doesn't wind up in storage. We'll see.

Anyway, the totals are the same, again...

FOs: 8 projects
WIPs: 6 projects
Planned: 18 projects
TOTAL: 32 projects

Now, for an update on my "real" life. Little Man started daycare last Monday and things were going okay. He's come home with half the sandbox in his diaper and shoes, he's been playing nicely with the other toddlers, he's even taking naps.......and then he got the plague. I knew he was going to get sick but I was hoping that a visit to the hospital wouldn't happen as a result. Sadly, that wasn't to be the case. He woke up Friday morning, earlier than usual, running a low-grade fever, congested, coughing, and snot dribbling out his nose. Great. I gave him some of his milk and he threw it all up. Okay, not a big deal yet. He had another couple of ounces a little while later....and threw it all up.

That's a problem.

"Normal" kids can handle this somehow. Little Man, however, cannot because of his metabolic disorder. So, I called the metabolic doctor on call and they said I should bring him in to the emergency room. Luckily, they were pretty much ready for us. A lot has changed since the first time we brought him into the ER a little over a year ago. Anyway, they ran all the normal things like his weight, temperature, pulse oxygen, heart rate...and then he had an EKG, some blood tests (acyl-carnitine levels, blood glucose, CBC, etc.), and an IV of D10 (which isn't what they would normally give - normally, they'd give D5). We were there from about 8:30am-noon. When it was all said and done, his labs and tests were normal and we were allowed to go home on the condition that we use his "sick" protocol until he's feeling mostly normal again. That means that I'm getting up in the middle of the night every 3-4 hours to feed him, plus giving him "light" things like juice, crackers, plain noodles...basically what anyone wants when they're sick.

He just has a cold.....but the mucus was making him throw up.

As long as he's not throwing up and isn't running a fever, things are fine.

So, we've been having lots of cuddles, lots of Shaun the Sheep, lots of juice, and that's about it.

Husband left Thursday morning for California. He missed all the fun.

::sigh:: If it isn't one thing, it's another.

I hope you all had a lovely week :)

  1. Like the idea of your project bags, I've done something similar in the past; but often end up steeling the hook, or needles and forget to mark what size I used, or where I left off in the pattern. I need to get better about doing that. Your list is impressive. I started late too, but haven't bothered to count the weeks, so no clue how long I've been at it.

  2. Lots of love for you and Little Man, that can't be fun! I hope he feels better soon, and you do too!

And yay for turning heels, they are sort of magical aren't they? It's the best thing about sock knitting

  3. Good going on the list and that sounds like a good idea of putting them into ziplocs, keep them together.
Poor Little Man and I do hope he's on the mend, its never nice when they are ill and cuddles and Shaun the Sheep I hope will help.

  4. You are such a warrior mum, Renee. Sorry your son is ill and I know you had commented that you caught the bug too :O(. Hugs to you both.
Chloe's Cafe is a little corner place. There is usually a wait as you have to sign up. The food is good and they're very nice there. I usually have breakfast food.
