It's another Sunday and that means that it's time for another Self-Imposed Year of Projects. This marks my 30th update.

Unfortunately, a few weeks have been lost due to what I'm now going to call The Epic Move. That doesn't mean that I stopped blogging, however. Not that I was blogging about my Year of Projects but I was still blogging.

Sooooooooo......during The Epic Move, my yarn, needles, spinning wheel, drop spindle(s), fiber, and books were all packed up into boxes. I held off on packing up my bags of WIPs until the last minute (Friday, July 13th, 2012) but everything else had been packed for at least a week prior to that. Our stuff left Wisconsin on that day and didn't arrive until Tuesday, July 24th, 2012. Yes, you read that correctly...it took eleven (11) days to get from Wisconsin to Alameda, California. Under normal circumstances and normal driving, this trip should take about three or four days. It took a week and a half because they had to do a drop-off in Colorado and a pick-up in Idaho before coming to California. So, we were without most of our stuff for a week and a half.

::sigh::

Anyway, now that our stuff is here, we have the unfortunate task of unpacking...and most of our stuff won't be unpacked at all. We have a three bedroom, approximately 1000 sq. ft. apartment. The third bedroom, which we were going to use as storage, is full. I don't mean a little bit. I mean it's full from front to back, top to bottom, can barely move in that room at all. We also have a pile of boxes in the living room.

I know, I know...you're all wondering what we're going to do. Well, Husband found a storage unit where they will actually come and load up a truck with the boxes/furniture for you. No kidding! I'm not sure what kind of liability they have for that but it sounds like a lovely idea. So most of those boxes in the storage room and the pile of boxes in the living room are going to go to to the storage unit.

Except for a few things...my bins of yarn, my spinning wheel, and my quilts are not going to the storage unit. Well, not yet, anyway. They may still go but it's all dependent on Husband's friend, Joe. If Joe decides he's going to actively look for a job out here, he's going to probably move in with us into that room.

So, for now, my yarny fibery goods are staying here.

What did The Epic Move mean in terms of my Self-Imposed Year of Projects? Well, it's obvious that I wasn't able to work on anything between Friday, July 13th and Tuesday, July 24th because my WIPs weren't here. But, I did manage to visit The Alameda Yarn Co. last week one day. I picked up two skeins of sock yarn and two Addi Turbo US #1 40" circulars. I haven't actually done anything with them yet...but I got something.

Also, the Olympics started this past Friday. Before we even knew we were moving, I had signed up for two teams for Ravelympics the Ravellenic Games: Team Tardis and Team Sun Valley Fibers. I decided upon making an Adipose for Team Tardis and something (probably socks or a small shawl) from Sun Valley Fibers' yarn. I had intended to start on Friday but life had other plans. I didn't even get to watch the opening ceremonies or anything. In fact, I haven't watched anything to do with the Olympics.

Anyway, now that it's Sunday, I should have started my Ravelympics Ravellenic Games projects. I haven't. I haven't even searched out the yarn in question. I know where it is, approximately...but I haven't started. I may still start and give it a go. We'll have to see how things go.

In other random news, I've decided that I'm probably never going back to the Oakland Walmart again. Joe has dubbed it "Hellmart" and it's not too far off. I've been to a lot of Walmarts over the years, mostly in Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa but also in Florida, Maryland, and  now California. The Walmart in Oakland is horrible. They seem to have a zillion people on staff but no one appears to be doing any actual work, aside from the cashiers. The shelves are only half-stocked, at best, and yet you see employees moving pallets around but not actually unloading them anywhere. It's insanely busy (which may be why shelves are only half-stocked in the first place), returns are a total PITA, and most of the employees are rude as all get out. We discovered, through someone on Ravelry and our own digging, that there is another Walmart in San Leandro...only another two miles from the one in Oakland. Husband and Joe went there last night and said it's so much better. They're going to show me how to get there later today.

Oh, and some photos to keep you going......because I haven't posted any for awhile :)

  1. My gosh it's neverending yeah? My daughters' godparents are moving today but w/thin the city. They can't believe how much accumulated in just five years. Glad you found a better Walmart. Some places are super ghetto in Oakland and Alameda. Be careful.
