Year Two: Self-Imposed Year of Projects - Update #4

Hooooooray for Sunday! It looks like I'm heading into my fourth week of my Second Self-Imposed Year of Projects :) I think. I'll have to look at the calendar to know if I'm going into my fourth week or just finishing my fourth week. I think I'm heading into my fourth week.

Anyway...

2. Mama's Vanilla Socks (round 2): started June 29, 2012
3. Eat Your Monkey Socks: started November 29, 2012

4. Little Man's Vest: started January 16, 2013

Perhaps you'll notice that I finished another swap project. It shouldn't have taken as long as it did but between Little Man coming down with the plague, me coming down with the plague, and Husband coming down with two separate versions of the plague....well, things were slow-going this week.

So, I finished up the other swap project and then I worked a little bit here and there on both pairs of socks and the vest. I've worked maybe one full repeat of my Eat Your Monkey Socks and a few more rounds on my Vanilla Socks. I'm at the point where I can start decreasing for the toe of the first sock. So, hopefully I'll have something worth looking at soon enough. The vest is coming along pretty well. It's looking like it's going to be a little wider than the pattern dictates (as it should be since I'm using larger needles) so I'm going to compensate by adding some length to it and it should work out just fine. The only thing is that Little Man may not be able to wear it for a year or two. That's fine. It might take me that long to make it!

Like I said, it's been a slow progress week around here due to the plague...and other things.

And now onto "life" news.

Things are running as smoothly as possible, which isn't necessarily smooth but it's the best we're going to get. All of our contingencies have been met except for the actual loan so we're heading into closing on our house. We may be able to close early, which would be absolutely fabulous. The house back in Wisconsin has all it's contingencies removed, as well so that one is heading into closing. That should close on February 15th. The condo only has two contingencies: the inspection and financing. The inspection is today and then that one should be ready to close and may close early, too.

I got a call yesterday morning from my credit card company. It wasn't a good one, either. Apparently someone in Michigan charged $0.62 to my credit card (that's sixty-two cents, for those that don't understand American Muggle money)...while I was still in bed and the card was still in my possession. There was also another odd charge for Quicken Loans for $1.00, which I also disputed. That one may have been something to do with our loan for the house since we're going through Quicken Loans. Either way, nothing should have been charged. So now I'm getting a new card with a new number in a week or so. We had to let the bank/loan company know about it because they're monitoring our credit. I don't think it'll be a big issue because I'm not opening up a new card but they still needed to know.

::sigh:: If it's not one thing, it's another.

Little Man is still fighting the plague. He's had a couple nighttime puke episodes so I've had to do more laundry than I'd like. Husband also came down with it again and stayed home a couple days. As a result of him being sick, I had to take my first ever drive into San Francisco. We've been through San Francisco a few times (quite a few, actually) but this would be the first time I was the one driving. That meant over the Bay Bridge, down Highway 101 (south), by the San Francisco Airport, and to where I needed to go. I was freaked out. A lot. I don't do well with idiot drivers and a lot of traffic. We were fine. Going home was a little different because it was in the midst of rush hour(s) traffic. I opted to go south on 101 and go over the San Mateo Bridge. It took 45 minutes coming in (left at 3:15pm) and it took an hour and a half coming home (left at 5:45pm). Going north wouldn't have made it any shorter. Oh well. I survived and I felt slightly empowered...but only slightly. I'm not going to be doing it often, especially if I can avoid it.

Anyway, I hope you had a wonderful week and that this week continues to be lovely :)

  1. I hate driving in the bay area, but it sounds like you were very successful, and definitely should feel empowered. And, even if you don't like doing it, now you know you can without dire consequences.

The list is impressive, as always!

    1. I wasn't a fan, either, but at least I know I can. I don't imagine that I'll be driving downtown in the Financial District anytime soon, though :)

  2. Credit Card problems sure are going around lately. I'm glad they called you. That's quite a bit of progress for only three weeks of the new year!

  3. Progress is progress no matter how small and you did well especially with you all being ill. I hate hate hate city driving, idiot drives and tons of traffic freak me out and I never if possible drive in the city. My husband thinks this is funny as I can be given a map and compass and be dropped into the middle of a forest and find my way about no bother..but then there are no idiot drivers there lol! Hope this week sees the illness pass for all of you.

    1. People around here just don't seem to bother looking. We had someone try to do a lane change into us yesterday. I'm pretty sure Husband blared the horn for a good mile after that.

  4. We've got the plague here on the east coast..an old and new version! I hate driving in Boston...in the city proper that is, all the streets are one way, so if you miss a turn..it's not easy to get back to the starting point..

  5. First off, Congrats on surviving your drive! I could have written a similar thing (only with different highways mentioned) about driving through downtown Seattle to get to my mom's north of the city. To say I hate it and it stresses me out is an understatement! :)
Secondly, well done in managing all that real estate stuff. Dealing with just buying a single house is bad enough but to be juggling 3?? Wow!
I love your San Fransisco Fog mitts--you did a great job on them an seem like you are off to a great start to year 2.
Hope little man feels well soon and you are able to have a lovely, plague free week!

  6. Oh dear -I just wrote a nice long comment but I don't think it posted. In that event, I will summarize again:
Congrats on the city drive (I totally get it--feel the same way dealing with getting through or around Seattle)

Well done on dealing with real estate stress of 3 properties at once! Yowza--let's just say migraine worthy for sure.

I love your San Fransisco Fog mitts--you did a lovely job on them, and I hope you truly have a plague free, lovely week!

  7. You are so brave. I have yet to drive over the Bay Bridge by myself. I've maybe done it twice with my dad navigating.I can handle the Golden Gate.
I hope Little Man is feeling better.
