FO Friday :)

I haven't been able to participate in FO Friday for almost a month. Today, that changes :) I have something to share and it's cute :)

Garter Stripe Baby Socks (project page)

Pattern: Garter Stripe Baby Sock by Jennifer Hoel
Time Frame: started March 3, 2013; finished April 4, 2013
Yarn: Chirapa by Marisol in #705 (no idea of the actual colorway name)
Needles: US #2 (2.75 mm) - Blackthorn DPNs
Size: Toddler (see modifications)
Modifications: The original pattern calls for fingering yarn on US #0 (2 mm) needles. I used sport weight yarn on US #2 (2.75 mm) needles. From the beginning these socks were bigger the the specified pattern. I made sure to knit both socks with the same number of pattern repeats so they'd turn out the same (as the pattern gives directions in length, not pattern repeats). I also modified the toes from the original pattern. The original pattern has you do a short-row toe that wraps up to the top of the toe and three-needle bind off and I opted for a regular toe decrease and Kitchener Stitch but I mimicked the three-needle bind off by putting a purl bump before I started my toe decreases.
Thoughts: It's an easy introduction to socks. The only thing I really don't like are the short-row heels and toes. I wasn't sure about the short-row heel but now that Little Man is parading around in his new socks, I see how they don't fit his feet as well. I think if I make them again, I'll opt for a regular heel flap and gusset rather than the short row. I also, obviously, didn't care for the short-row toe either as I changed it to a regular toe decrease with Kitchener Stitch. Other than that, it's a perfect little pattern. I think if I make it again, I'll make the cuff/leg a bit longer.

Here are some more photos from our early morning photo shoot :)

Please notice his monster jammies :)

    1. Normally, I have a strong dislike of feet...but I love Little Man's feet (though I definitely clean them before I think about kissing them). And thank you :)

  2. Cute socks. I thought those were your feet. He's grown. Stop growing Little Man! It's too fast.

    1. Those are so his feet. And he won't be able to wear these socks for very long as they only just fit him now. ::sigh::

  5. oh my goodness, those are adorable!!!

I'm not a fan of short row heels either (and definitely not toes...way too fiddly!) but somehow I end up making socks with short row heels all the time - and they never fit right! Will have to stop doing that.
