Fourth Annual Knitting & Crochet Blog Week - Wednesday

Day Three (Wednesday April 24th): Infographic
There are many ways of conveying information on a blog; text and images being the two most widely used. Many infographics combine both these elements to provide a visual way of presenting text information.

Make your own infogaphic (no fancy imaging software needed, you can draw it on paper and photograph it if you want) to convey any element of your craft(s). It can be just for fun or a thoroughly researched presentation of an idea/finding.

There will be nobody checking on how accurate your infographics are. They may be just for fun :)

The whole point of this topic is to experiment with infographics as a way of sharing facts, information and ideas, and to explore another tool in a blogger's arsenal of communication options.

Hmmmmmm......an infographic representation, huh? Well, let's talk about what mine shall represent. In case you didn't look, my blog is called Confessions of a Yarn Addict. What does it mean to be a yarn addict? It means I have far too much yarn...well beyond SABLE (Stash Acquired Beyond Life Expectancy). My Ravelry Stash Page isn't even accurate. I have way more yarn than what's listed there. I've been working on getting it all listed and photographed but it's a really long process and, let's be honest, I've had many other more important things happening (like unpacking, watching Little Man, and generally getting used to the new surroundings). So, getting my stash photographed and updated is a WIP in and of itself.

Anyway, let's look at my infograph:

Inforgraph: My Yarn Stash

By looking at my infograph, you'll notice there are twelve boxes, each with at least one different color (except one labeled "cotton"). Each box represents a Rubbermaid or Sterilite Bin, similar to the one found here. Now, I have more bins than what is represented on this page but the missing ones hold mostly fiber or notions or tools (my hand carders, knitting bags, etc.). So, let's say I have twelve bins of yarn. Based on the infograph, four of those bins are green....meaning they're filled with green yarn (or mostly green - variegated that's mostly green). Also, a bin is filled with both green and blue. I also have a bin filled with blue and purple and one filled with just blue. Then there is a full bin of neutral colors (browns, whites, blacks, greys) and a bin that holds half neutrals and half reds. I have a bin filled with just cotton, and the last bin is a mix of everything else, color-wise (pinks, oranges, yellows, and anything else I've forgotten). The cotton is relatively multi-colored as well but I have enough to fill a bin so.........yeah. That's just how my brain works.

And people wonder why I'm trying to wrangle my yarn stash. I have well beyond SABLE at this point and I'm only 33 years old.

  1. I like to think of stash not as mere yarn but has possibilities.

    You have so many possibilities!

  2. I've dived into my stash for today's post too, it's nice to take stock occasionally and see what you have. I'm feeling the urge to go back and arrange it all by colour now though!

    1. I have far too much yarn...and it's not organized at all. I just number the bins and when (if?) I put it on Ravelry, it's labeled by bin number.

    1. I do, as well...especially if it's something that's been in there for awhile.

  4. Holy donuts! 12 bins? I understand how stash addict applies to you. How big are your bins? Your inforgraphic is very interestingly represented.
