Fourth Annual Knitting & Crochet Blog Week - Saturday

Day Six (Saturday April 27th): A Tool To Covet
Write about your favorite knitting or crochet (or spinning, etc) tool. It can either be a tool directly involved in your craft (knitting needles or crochet hook) or something that makes your craft more pleasurable – be it a special lamp, or stitch markers.

Is it an item that you would recommend to others, and if so for which applications/tasks do you think it is most suited. Conversely, do you have a tool/accessory that you regret buying? Why does it not work for you?

I have a ball winder. It's red and white with a crank on it. It serves it's purpose but at least once or twice while I'm winding  yarn, the eyelet loosens, falls over, and my yarn gets tangled around the mechanism under the winder itself. Then I have to spend 5-10 minutes untangling it, sometimes breaking yarn to get it untangled. Oh, and a ton of frustration.

So.........I want an electric ball winder, the kind I wouldn't have to babysit while winding. It takes me twice as long to wind yarn because I have to babysit my winder so it doesn't get tangled. I want an electric ball winder. I do, however, have a swift and that makes life a bit easier. I can, at least, wind yarn by hand if I have my swift...but cakes are so much easier. Also, they store better.

If anyone wants to buy me something, I'd love an electric ball winder :)

  1. I have the same red and white ball winder. Mine is skipping teeth or something inside so the yarn holder thing slips and the yarn gets wound irregularly. I end up winding everything twice or just dealing with the mess. I don't have a swift and I really want one but I may have to invest in a new ball winder first.

  2. Is that what your ball winder looks like? I thought about an electric one but am scared if there's a tangle in the hank, the electric one won't stop and everything will get crazy and jacked up.

    1. That is not my ball winder. I wish that was my ball winder.
