Y2: Self-Imposed Year of Projects - Update #30

::sigh::

Do you ever get the feeling that you're in a rut? I've felt that way about blogging recently. I try to make it in at least once a week for this update (and, so far, I've been successful at getting here every week)...but it seems like it's the same thing over and over and I'm just in a rut :(

We're here, however, for another installment of my Self-Imposed Year of Projects, my thirtieth installment for the year, in fact :) Let's get to it...

17. Grandma's Favorite Dishcloth: started June 28, 2013; finished July 25, 2013

I finished up a dishcloth that has been sitting in my bag for awhile. It's nothing special...just some unknown cotton (probably Lion Brand Kitchen Cotton), the variegated blue that never seems to end. It took far too long to complete this project but it was something I worked on here and there. I needed something mindless the other night so I finished it up.

I should also share that two of my petal dishcloths (#9 and either #10 or #12 on the above list) have gone to a new home. I had plans to send off a skein of light bulky handspun blue corriedale for a Doctor Who swap I participated in and, well, you've heard me talk about my dislike of that fiber. We're not friends, it didn't cooperate while spinning, and plying it was worse. So, I needed something handmade and hey, look! I have some finished dishcloths that need a home. So, I kind of felt lame for sending them but I made up for it in other things :)

I also sent out three more dishcloths: the Sand Stitch Dishcloth, Roman Stitch Dishcloth, and another one of Grandma's Favorite Dishcloths (that isn't on the list for some reason). I have a friend from high school that's having her first baby in September and I filled a box with stuff, including those three dishcloths. There's nothing better for a little baby than a handknit dishcloth :)

I'm hoping to bring in some good karma this year...

Continuing on....

Works-in-Progress (WIPs)
1. Freeport Vest: started March 7, 2013
2. Baby Surprise Jacket: started May 27, 2013
3. Traveling Vines Socks (Adult): started May 31, 2013
4.
Greyson: started July 5, 2013

5. Choose Your Own Adventure Dishcloth: started July 26, 2013

I spent most of my time this week working on my Greyson sweater...when I wasn't finishing the dishcloth and starting another one. But, really, I spent most of my time on Greyson. I finished the body on Thursday morning while knitting with Angela (of KnitLuck). Unfortunately, I had discovered that I didn't own any US #7 DPNs and my US #5 DPNs were a set of four that belonged to my grandmother (not that there's anything wrong with them). Sooooo, Angela, being fabulous, let me her set of US #7 DPNs so I could do the sleeves. I've only just started them, though.

If I keep going at the rate I'm going, I should have that sweater done fairly quickly. But, you know how I can get about my knitting....I'm already dreaming about my next project.

::sigh::

1. Little Man's Baby Blanket
2. Susan's Hat (4 versions)
3. Assorted dishcloths (set of 12?)
4. Traveling Vines Scarf
5. Traveling Vines Socks (baby and adult-sized as well) - yes, this is a WIP...still working on it...
6. Pinwheel Market Bag
7. Anything else that comes along (I have a notebook or two or seventeen somewhere with potential designs and random ideas)

Because I've been dreaming about what to work on next, I'm at a loss. Part of me wants to work on something small and quick, to satisfy that need for (almost) instant gratification. However, another part of me wants to work on something...well, not "bigger" exactly but, perhaps, more time consuming. So, anyone have any suggestions for what I should start next?

In "real life" news, there hasn't been much happening. Little Man can now tell someone his name, if asked. That's fabulous. It's also adorable. He had his cardiologist appointment on Thursday afternoon. I will most likely hear back from his cardiologist tomorrow. I don't expect there to be anything wrong but he has to be checked now and again because of the metabolic disorder. He's also becoming quite adept in the pool. Granted, his swimsuit has a built-in floatation but he's been jumping off the steps into the water, totally unassisted, he's figured out how to right himself when he lands with his face in the water, and he loves playing leap frog (which is where one of us holds him and we jump up and down with him).

I hope you've all had a good week and a lovely weekend. I hope to be back a couple times this week. I owe you all a yarn review and I feel like I should stop in for a WIP Wednesday post...we'll see about that, though :)

  1. I think you should start two things - something for instant gratification and something more involved. That's not too many WIPs, is it?

It's so cool how you meet up with other bloggers!

  2. You know I used to feel bad about gifting dishcloths but I got over that when I visited my Aunt one birthday and on handing her her present she said oh I hope its more cloths I love them. My cousin to now requests some more along with my Mom so really they are a super present. How about working on the mitts or wristwarmers something for yourself. Way to go little man on the swimming, its always lovely seeing them meet thir goals.

  3. I don't think you can ever beat a good dishcloth!! I'm going swimming with my 2 tomorrow, it's lovely to see them develop their confidence isn't it? : )

  4. What about a simple beanie or wristwarmers? I hope Little Man has a simple check up with the cardiologist.

  5. I also think you should start a couple of things. And as for a blogging rut, if I were just posting because I 'had to' I'd feel very uninspired too. If you don't want to blog, you don't have to - take teh pressure off. ANd when you have something you feel inspired about, take a photo and write a few words. That's much more inspiring for you and will be nice for the reader to see something that inspired and interested you too.

    Have a lovely week

  6. I agree with the comment that you start something easy and something more involved. I tend to work like that. Something easy to work on when I'm tired and something more complicated for when I'm not :)

  7. Definitely agree with Minding My Own Stitches about starting two projects. Everyone needs some instant gratification in their life! And I also know what you mean about the blogging rut, all I seem to post these days is my year of projects updates, and I really wish I posted more but I just don't know what to write about

  8. Hey thanks for the link love! Always happy to help a fellow knitter with supplies! How are you enjoying that Fit to Flatter book? As for the blog rut, you should try blogging in a different way. Maybe more photos, perhaps share a bunch of technique tutorials for a part of knitting you've found challenging? Share your favorite Dr. Who knitting?

Also, I should get onto the Knit Watcher thing again. What day was it that we decided on? Thursday? Monday?

  9. Oy, this stupid thing ate my comment. Sigh. Anyhoo glad to help a fellow knitter. Do you remember what day you thought we should start doing KnitWatcher?

    1. It didn't eat it. I approve the comments before posting (I was getting a metric ton of spam otherwise)...and delete multiples of the same kind.

I think we decided on either Monday or Thursday. I think we decided on Monday but I could be wrong :)
