Happy Sunday :)

I've posted a lot of follies this week (you can check them out here, here, and here). There was just so much to post about! Now that we're officially into fall, I expect to be posting a little less, at least for a little while...or maybe more. Who knows?!

You may have noticed an addition to my FO List. I finished up the knitting portion of my Greyson sweater on Tuesday afternoon. I honestly don't know what took me so long. All I had left to do was the neckband...and I had already picked up all the stitches for it. I just needed to knit the silly thing. It took me a little over an hour and it turned out really well! So, I have another item knocked off my list. I should have it all done and washed and blocked by Friday so expect a FO Friday update this week (maybe next week if things get too crazy).

Sooooo, that means my WIP List is down to 3:

Works-in-Progress (WIPs)
1. Freeport Vest: started March 7, 2013
2. Baby Surprise Jacket: started May 27, 2013
3. Traveling Vines Socks (Adult): started May 31, 2013

Aside from working on my Greyson sweater, I did spend a little teensy bit of time on my Baby Surprise Jacket this week. I'm steadily working on the increases. I'm not sure how I feel about it. The yarn is quite lovely to work with, the pattern (once I had done some thinking and reading and such) is pretty easy to work with, and it'll be nice for any newborn...I'm just not sure I love this yarn with this pattern. Oh well, I don't necessarily intend to keep it anyway. I have a few friends that are having babies (or planning to) so I could gift it...or, if I ever get my Etsy shop going, I could sell it there. We'll see how things go.

I took out my socks once this week. I looked at them. I thought about working on them. And then I put them away. Oops.

I also looked at my Freeport Vest. Or, rather, I looked at the hanks of yarn I need to wind...and I lamented that my ball winder is a pile and I hate it and I wanted something fabulous.

So, in a late-night stupor, I went online and ordered a fancy new ball winder from Village Spinning and Weaving (located in Solvang, CA). It arrived on Thursday. I've opened the box and it's very pretty :)

I may be able to properly wind yarn without my ball winder eating it (I'm still lamenting my partially destroyed Malabrigo Sock right now)!

Anyway, that means my remaining lists look like this:

Children's Items
1. "Little 16" Newborn Socks
2. Alvin Sweater
3. Milo

Items for Me (Selfish Knitting FTW!)
1. Rose's Wrist Warmers
2. Zombie ViXen Fingerless Mitts

Household Items
1. Halloween Creepy Cloths (1)
2. Halloween Creepy Cloths (2)
3. Assorted Harry Potter Cloths
4. Assorted Doctor Who Cloths

Designs (which may or may not be sooper seekrit - obviously the sooper seekrit ones aren't listed)
1. Little Man's Baby Blanket
2. Susan's Hat (4 versions)
3. Assorted dishcloths (set of 12?)
4. Traveling Vines Scarf
5. Traveling Vines Socks (baby and adult-sized as well) - yes, this is a WIP...still working on it...
6. Pinwheel Market Bag
7. Anything else that comes along (I have a notebook or two or seventeen somewhere with potential designs and random ideas)

Of course, I have my next project picked out and it's not one on my list (so I fully don't expect to finish it before the end of the year). I'm planning on starting Dragon's Egg Socks sometime today (okay, probably tonight after everyone goes to bed). I think I've also settled on Rose's Wrist Warmers and as soon as I dig out the yarn, all will be well there :)

Little Man rediscovered nudity so I spent a good portion of Friday trying to wrestle him back into his clothes. If we hadn't had to go anywhere, I probably wouldn't have cared too much but we were running errands and I had a doctor appointment and he just kept getting naked every five seconds. ::sigh:: I don't know what his deal was. He also wanted to sit in his sandbox while naked. I don't particularly like scraping sand off his butt and out of his little crack but it's either I wipe him off with wipes or spray him with the hose...and he's not a fan of either one. The hose is too cold and the wipes are too rough (with the sand).

We also went to the circus on Thursday night with Husband's boss, wife, and daughter...I should probably specify. We went to see the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. They had a show at the Cow Palace in Daly City. Little Man loved it. He was most excited about the elephants, tigers, and poodles...and holding the boss' daughter's hand (she's 5 or 6 years old).

Other than that, not much has been happening around here. We're supposedly in a "state of emergency" because of the Rim Fire going on in Yosemite...something about the water supply and the electrical grid for most of the San Francisco Bay Area being threatened. However, it's not as bad as the news makes it sound. We don't have any electrical problems, we don't have any limitations on water, and we bought a little generator and have a small stockpile of drinking water, just in case...and we can always use the pool for bathing and such if we really have to. Also, we just filled the propane tanks.

Anyway, I hope you've all had a lovely week :) I should be back on Friday for FO Friday goodness!

  1. We've been watching the news about the Yosemite fire - it looks unbelievable huge and dramatic. Glad to hear you're stocked up and prepared.

I think every little boy goes through a nudity phase. My little brother also went through a "swearing like a sailor" streak at the same time which mortified my mom to no end. Almost impossible to take him anywhere in public until it wore off. Sand also comes off when it's dry so you could try a hairdryer on low heat with a swiffer duster to encourage the sand to fall off his skin.

  2. My Jellybean had a shameless phase. It was so funny. Little Man never fails to entertain.

Hoorah on finishing Greyson!!! And cool how you'll be starting the HP socks.

  4. Greyson is looking great!! My eldest son never went through a nudity phase, but I suspect my youngest might!!

  5. Have you seen the ad on T.V. about the little boy taking his clothes off? It is too funny! Didn't you let him swim nude in the pool this summer? That may have instilled it. The wipes and the hose will probably cure it! LOL! It would me! Ha! Ha!
I looked at the ball winder and it will be a long time..probably forever before I ever have that one! Whoa Nellie! The price about knocked me off my chair! But you deserve it as you have knitted much longer than I have and I have time to wind by hand. It doesn't bother me and I do it while watching t.v. I also love doing most things "the old-fashioned way"....it could be because I'm old too! LOL!
So glad you're safe from the fires or the effects of them....I love the West but I couldn't live in those hills with the fires. I'll take my chances with the tornadoes.
    Take care!

  6. Well done on finishing the Greyson and am glad your stocked and prepared if anything should happen. Little boys just love getting naked, I'm afraid it's a fact of life, my youngest boy is now 4 1/2 so seems to be just out of it but him and his brother do still love to take a run round the house at bath time shouting at everyone they are naked, much to the shame of the older children so they go the opposite way in a few years !

  7. Ha Ha! I remember my son when he was about 5 years old discovering the joy of peeing outside in the backyard....um yeah....boys! You have to love them!
Your Greyson looks fantastic and a big "hooray" for finishing it! I will keep my fingers crossed that the state of emergency ends before it actually might affect you.

  8. So I'm replying to your last three posts in one here!

The trip to Wisconsin looks fab, must have been great to go back and see family, and Little Man looks like he really enjoyed it (and got suitably grubby!)

And I am so jealous of your trip to Stitches! One day, when I'm rich and famous, I'll be able to fly out and go! Your haul looks fab, and I'm drooling over all the sock yarns.

Greyson is looking great, and I bet it looks so cute on Little Man, you have to post a modelled photo! Maybe it'll persuade him to stop getting naked so often? :P

    1. Unfortunately the sweater won't fit him for at least a few months, probably a year. It hangs down to his knees and well over his hands at this point. It'll fit him someday though...and then we'll have a fully modeled photo :)
