Y3: Self-Imposed Year of Projects - Update #3

Happy Sunday :)

Today marks my third update in my third Self-Imposed Year of Projects. It doesn't mean anything cool and grand...it's just fun to say third and third in the same sentence.

Anyway, let's get going with the updates...

Finished Objects (FOs)
1. Windschief: started January 3, 2014; finished January 10, 2014
2. Welcome to the World Newborn Hat: started January 10, 2014; finished January 11, 2014

I haven't finished anything new and that's perfectly fine.

Works-In-Progress (WIPs)
1. Baby Surprise Jacket: started May 27, 2013
2. Traveling Vines Socks (Adult): started May 31, 2013
3. Dragon's Egg Socks: started September 2, 2013
4. Zombie ViXen Fingerless Mitts: started November 23, 2013
5. Milo: started December 25, 2013

6. Five Hour Baby Sweater: started January 16, 2013

Apparently I thought five WIPs wasn't enough and I started another project this week. I've had the Five Hour Baby Sweater in my queue since May. I never thought I'd actually get around to it but I have friends having babies that should be snuggled in handknit sweaters. So, I'm making one. This one happens to have stripes and it's knitting up quite quickly. It's done top-down so I'm at the point where I've divided for the sleeves...and that's just lovely.

I also worked on Milo this week. I've just started the cabling and stockinette section so I'm maybe halfway through this vest. I hope I have enough yarn. I also picked up my Baby Surprise Jacket and counted fourteen rows before I bind off...but then I worked a couple rows. So, I have about a dozen rows and then I bind off and sew the sleeves and add buttons. Or something. I'm not actually adding buttons so that's fine.

Soooooooo, that's where I am right now :)

  1. You are so sweet to knit baby knits for your friends. Gosh, I feel ashamed at never working on my little sister's baby knit. I think I will frog and make another In Threes.

    1. There are only a few friends I am willing to knit for. Also, knitting for babies is awesome because baby things are small. I've also considered donating things to the hospitals for kids...

  2. Starteritis is definitely A Thing. But it sounds like you're making good rounds through your WIPs, so would one more really be such a bad thing?

(You probably shouldn't listen to me. I think I'm a bad influence. My reasoning usually goes: "I can't start this unless I finish something, or buy more needles in that size... but finishing takes a long time, and needles are small and easy to store...")

    1. I've read through some of the projects on Ravelry and it seems that most people are around six hours but I've seen as low as four hours and as high as "I stopped keeping track."

I'm probably around 2.5 hours at this point and I'm to where I start working the sleeves. And that's probably about halfway.

  4. I don't dare count my WIPs, they sure are more than five! But, the most important thing is to enjoy crafting, not finish everything quickly, right? :)

    1. It depends on if you're a process knitter or a project knitter. I'm more of a process knitter so I'm more about the process but there are times where I just want something to be finished so I don't feel like such a loser :)

  6. You're off to a great start this year....I'm still finishing Christmas presents! LOL! I want to make Milo's for the grandboys but I better get a move on as they are growing fast! I'm like you...I'm not happy unless I have lots of things going as in projects. Keep up the great work!

  7. I am waiting to cast on another project until the Ravellenics--for now I will work on my socks which I just cast on this week. I think I might need to knit up that 5 hour sweater for a co-worker of mine --due in March. Maybe I will make it a Ravellenic project? Hmm...better think on that. You are an amazing knitter and I can't believe how much you get finished!

    1. I probably should wait until RRG and RG to start something new but I want to knit all the things all the time!

  8. Oh I love a bout of startitis and it sounds like you are making good progress with the wip's and therefore finished soon and so you'll need another wip...hmmm I guess that didn't help deter you from startitis but it does go round in swings and roundabouts.

    1. I try not to get bored but sometimes, I need something small to break up the monotony of the bigger things (socks, shawls, sweaters, etc.).
