Y4: Self-Imposed Year of Projects - THAT'S A WRAP! (Update #52)

Another year, gone. Now, as I understand it, the House Cup needs awarding.....

Wait, this isn't Harry Potter. This is my Self-Imposed Year of Projects! Let's get going on my wrap-up for the year.

Let's start with the Finished Objects :)

1. Elefante: started December 19, 2014; finished December 29, 2014

Yes, yes, I know that, technically, he should have been on last year's but he was in that weird week where I had done the wrap-up for my third year but hadn't yet announced plans for this year. So, he made an appearance as my first FO for 2015.

2. Hat #1 (FoH): started December 31, 2014; finished January 1, 2015

Again, this one fell during that weird week so it was included in this year's collection.

3. Hat #2 (FoH): started January 1, 2015; finished January 4, 2015

4. Hat #3 (FoH): started January 7, 2015; finished January 10, 2015

5. Hat #4 (Stitch's Rock Hat): started January 16, 2015; finished January 24, 2015

And, thus, Stitch's Rock Collection (of Hats) was born...

6. Vanilla Fingerless Mitts: started January 23, 2015; finished February 3, 2015

7. Paradiddle Hat: started January 24, 2015; finished February 7, 2015

8. Stitch's Rock Collection (of Hats) - Variegated: started February 22, 2015; finished February 24, 2015

9. Sorin Fingerless Mitts: started March 8, 2015; finished March 31, 2015

::sigh:: The color just isn't right on this.......

10. Stitch's Rock Collection - Variegated: started February 27, 2015; finished April 1, 2015

11. Stitch's Rock Collection (of Hats) Pattern Test: started sometime in February 2015; finished April 15, 2015 (the pattern is live and can be purchased via Ravelry for $1.50)

My first ever "paid for" pattern on Ravelry! Go me. Also, seven sizes, and it's cheap!

12. Traveling Vines Socks (pattern for publication): started sometime in February, 2015; finished April 15, 2015 -- full disclosure on October 18, 2015

My first ever "someone else paid me to write this pattern and knit this project" thingie! Woo-hoo! Unfortunately, to date, there's only one project......and it's mine. ::sigh:: Perhaps after my contract period is over and I get it all prettified it'll have more.

13. Sacrificial Goat #5: started May 29, 2015; finished June 4, 2015

14. Baby Hat: started June 4, 2015; finished June 6, 2015

15. Elvish Leaves Dishcloth: started June 10, 2015; finished June 12, 2015

16. Baby Hat: started June 19, 2015; finished June 27, 2015

17. Homework for Alana Dakos Class: started July 1, 2015; finished July 5, 2015

The photos for this one were.....not good. That's partly because the hat wasn't washed or blocked as it was gifted immediately upon finishing to Julie Crawford of KnittedBliss. Now that baby has come, I assume it will get some use :)

18. Traveling Socks: started December 23, 2014; finished July 28, 2015

These socks were gifted to one of my college friends when she came to visit in November. They never did quite fit me correctly and they fit her perfectly. I have more yarn so I can make another pair.

19. Sacrificial Goat #6: started August 23, 2015; finished September 1, 2015

20. Petty Harbour Socks: started July 29, 2015; finished September 5, 2015

21. Curlew: started September 10, 2015; finished September 26, 2015

22. Little Man's Hat: started July 8, 2015; finished November 2, 2015

23. Maple Slouch Hat: started November 15, 2015; finished November 20, 2015

24. Maple Slouch Hat (2): started November 23, 2015; finished December 1, 2015

25. Bunny: started September 8, 2015; finished December 8, 2015

26. Pacific Shawl: started June 8, 2014/June 14, 2015; finished December 14, 2015

Okay, so it's not washed or blocked but it's still proof that it's finished!

So, that clears up the FOs.....moving onward.....

Works-In-Progress (WIPs): - carried over from 2014...and maybe earlier...*shifty eyes*
1. Dragon's Egg Socks: started September 2, 2013
2. Snape's Stockings: started August 20, 2014
3. Wink: started January 5, 2015
4. Fire & Ice (Fire) Socks: started April 15, 2015
5. Vanilla Latte Socks: started November 19, 2015
6. Swirl Hat: started December 16, 2015

So many of these are close to being finished, if I'd just sit and work on them...or, rather, if I had enough time to just sit and work on them. I had every intention of showing you photos but........that just didn't happen.

My Dragon's Egg Socks.....my longest-running WIP....they just don't get the attention they deserve. I plan to wear the hell out of them once I actually, you know, finish them. They're just so difficult to work on because I'm reading from charts in a magazine, working with dark green yarn and a cable needle, none of which mesh with a small child running amok. It means I don't work on them nearly as often as I should.

Snape's Stockings......my second-longest WIP......I'm on the second sock, the charts aren't horribly difficult to read (though I still don't want to do it with small children present)......just doing other things, I guess.

Wink. My sweater. It's going to take me at least a year to knit this. At least. It's a sweater in worsted weight yarn and there are charts and cable needles and long rows and....I should just knit this.

Fire Socks........as of this writing, a couple days earlier than the publishing date, I've got just one pattern repeat to finish, then the toe. Sooooo close. Probably my first FO in January. Maybe.

Vanilla Latte Socks........my second-newest WIP. I'm past the heel flap and turn on the first sock. Not bad, considering it's my traveling purse project.

And lastly, my Swirl Hat. For something so small, it sure seems to be taking awhile....

And then, there's this.......

Christmas Presents
I have absolutely no idea what's going to end up here, if anything. I suspect something will end up here and I might pull it from other lists but we shall see. Maybe I won't do any Christmas knitting. Maybe all I'll wind up doing is Christmas knitting. I suppose this is a wait-and-see section :)

3. Little Man's Baby Blanket
4. Paradiddle Socks (see Secret Sock Club Bag section)

Crazy lady, indeed. I should know after four years of doing this...I should just know by now......I never, never, never, never, never, ever finish these lists. Part of me wonders why I even bother making lists because I always wind up doing things that are not on my lists...like test knits or the new something something that came out that I need to have RIGHT NOW. I suppose the reason for the lists, however, is to give me some sense of focus while still leaving me with choices so I don't get into the "OMG I hate knitting and need to quit and sell off all my pretties right now" phase. I need some flexibility.

Unfortunately, this still may have been a bit too flexible......oh well. I probably won't learn for next year, either.

Anyway, it's been a wonderful year, many things were accomplished, and as usual, many things were not accomplished or outright ignored. C'est la vie.

I'll (hopefully) be back next week with my shiny new Self-Imposed Year of Projects. That will be the beginning of my fifth year. I think that means I could be a prefect this year?

  1. I know when I make my lists, that most of those projects will not be completed...there is always the new thing...like OMG the Doodler, but I like having them there, especially most of them already have the yarn for them paired up....

  2. A great year of projects, even if you didn't finish your list- which is crazy long, I certainly couldn't have accomplished the total list either. And #17 will have some great photos one day- the #17 hat is a bit big still, but he will grow and I bet in a few weeks it will be perfect!
