Oh look at that! I finished up another spinning project.

I mentioned it last week because I had two of the braids spun onto bobbins. I finished up the third braid and worked on plying. The biggest skein of three-ply wound up being around 245 yds, the smaller skein is probably closer to 125 yds, and then the last bit was chain-plied and was around 25 yds. I think next time I have bits left on the bobbin, I'm going to try Andean Plying. We shall see.

At any rate, here it is...not great photos, ganked from my Instagram. But, they are finished and still drying, actually. It's been warm and those were big skeins and they hang out in a bathroom that we keep (mostly) closed off.

WIPs (Works-In-Progress) - carried over year-to-year
1. Wink: started January 5, 2015
2. Caffe Macchiato Socks: started May 7, 2016
3. Gex for Niece: started June 28, 2016
4. Tour de Fleece: July 2nd-24th, 2016

First and foremostly, I have done some knitting. I've finished 6/11 wedges on the Gex Sweater. I've not been spending time knitting, however....

Tour de Fleece is still on and I'm still spinning.

In addition to finishing the Fat Cat Fibers, I spun about 5.9 oz of white merino (the rest of the ball from the purple merino/silk & white merino barber pole listed above). I pre-split it into two weighed piles and spun the singles onto separate bobbins. They are sitting, unplied. I'll get around to it. I spun the first bobbin on Wednesday and the second one on Friday.

I also spun up about 4 oz of a superwash merino/bamboo/nylon blend from Happy Hands, which is sadly gone forever as the purveyor passed away a couple years ago. I picked up the fiber not long after I had started spinning, probably at Sheep in the City in Milwaukee. I wanted to wait until I was a better spinner before I tackled it......and I said, "screw it," and decided now was the time. I spun both bobbins on Friday and they, too, are mocking me.

I have at least one empty bobbin (that isn't my plying bobbin) so I may start the next project.

Moving along.....

This week didn't start out very well for me. I managed to give myself a (very mild) concussion last Sunday afternoon. We bought a new room air conditioner and we were getting the old one out to the curb and I bent down to take care of something. When I came up, I smacked my head on the bottom of our (metal) mailbox. I saw starts, I cried, and I had a rather large lump. Sunday night, I suddenly got a migraine and needed to sleep. ::sigh::

In addition to that, I also went to Sunnyvale with the intention of going to Purlescence Yarns, because they are also closing their doors. I think I have bad juju or something. This will be the fourth yarn shop to closein the Bay area in as many years. Sadly, when I got there, I found they were closed (and hadn't updated the hours on their website). Oh well. Sooooon.

Um......what else.....oh, I may or may not have gone a little crazy and picked up five skeins of yarn this week. I'll do a Stash Acquisition post soon enough but I got four skeins of MadTosh Pashmina and one skein of MadTosh MCN Worsted, all in the Molly Ringwald colorway...which is pink. Pretty in Pink Molly Ringwald, not Sixteen Candles Molly Ringwald. Or maybe it's the color of her bridesmaid dress from Sixteen Candles. I don't know.

On Thursday, I took Little Man (and Stormageddon) to the City for Little Man's ENT appointment. He needs ear tubes. We knew this awhile ago. We were going to schedule him for his surgery (in August) and the ENT that was going to do the surgery looked into his (super crazy rare) genetic metabolic disorder and decided she wasn't comfortable doing the surgery in case of an emergency as both hospitals she works out of do not have Pediatric Intensive Care Units (PICUs). Soooo, she recommended we find a Pediatric ENT that works out of either UCSF Hospital(s) or Lucille Packard, both which have PICUs. Because his genetic metabolic specialist is at UCSF, I made the decision to go to UCSF. We're not scheduled yet but he's still getting tubes. I'm hoping we can squeeze it in before school starts but we'll see what happens.

Friday, Husband took Little Man to work with him, which meant it was just Stormageddon and I at home. We watched movies, I spun about 7 oz of fibery goodness, and that was about it. It was kin dof nice not having to listen to Little Man babble. Tell me again why I was worried he wouldn't talk...he doesn't know how to turn it off now.

Yesterday was a busy day for us. In the morning, I took the boys to a nearby park for a playdate with a bunch of the other incoming kindergarteners at Little Man's school. And last night a couple of my Mama friends (from Little Man's class) & spouses went out. We hired a sitter through UrbanSitter. So....there's that.

It was kind of a....not a boring week but I feel like we didn't do much. It was probably too warm anyway.

Seriously, this is probably the only non-spinning photo I took this week of the boys. We had a trunk picnic at Target because Stormageddon was being a crabass while we were at Target. We ate pizza from Pizza Hut (which we can get in Target around here), had milk, and that was that.

Oh, and I downloaded Pokemon Go on my iPhone. I did it mostly for Little Man but I've been playing at random times......like the time I found this guy in our living room.

Anyway, I hope you're having a lovely weekend :) Let's see if I wander back for Stash Acquisition or FO Friday or WIP Wednesday or something......

Oh, and as of Thursday, we have been all together in California for four years. WOO!

    1. I'm hoping we can get the tubes done soon, as well. This has been going on for almost a year (we started paying attention at his 5 year appointment last November but he'd had several ear infections prior to that). ::sigh::

  5. Oh boy; I'm glad you're okay! The husband tried once to change the light bulb in the dining area fan and the ding dong didn't turn off the fan so it thunked his head twice. Thank goodness he has caveman bones. I hope everything goes smoothly for Little Man; I'm glad your trek isn't that bad up to the city and that UCSF's in upper Sunset so it's near coming off of 280.

    1. Wrong end of 280....both his metabolic specialist & his new ENT are at the new UCSF campus, as is the children's hospital :)

  6. Loving your spinning, Renee. Even the kind of slubby parts. It looks unique. And that blue and green colored fiber makes a gorgeous yarn. I am curious now, though... Can you re-spin spun yarn, or combine it with other yarn? Spinning is one of those things that fascinates me, but totally intimidates me at the same time. Hope Little Man gets his tubes soon. I'm sure it will be a relief when that procedure is done.

    1. You can respin previous spun yarn but you'd have to probably unspin it and card/comb a lot to get it back to something you could spin from. I wouldn't want to do it :)

  7. Oh dear, ouch on the head injury. Not nice.
Lots more lovely spinning done I see, and such beautiful yarns created. Good job.
I have two sons who needed grommets (ear-tubes) and they certainly worked well for them. Hope your Little man has success with his too.

    1. I had them as a child, back when they didn't sedate you to put them in. Now they just knock him out for 15 minutes and put them in...and clear all the gunk out. I kind of want video of that...I know, gross, right.

  9. Love the spinning, so much so that I'm saving for a wheel for myself. I've enough of the drop spindle and want a proper wheel, very excited but for now I'll happily look at all yours. Glad to hear your' ok after the bump, I think head bumps are the worst as sometimes you just never know. I hope Little Man can get the tubes in before school, so much less hassle that way and we are all for anything that's less hassle.

    1. My timeline of events: I bought a drop spindle at Wisconsin Sheep & Wool in September 2010 (just 2 months before Little Man was born)....I bought my wheel in February of 2011. I wanted to love my drop spindles but I hated that I had to stop and start so much. I mean, I have to stop and start with the wheel but not as often. Also, it was much easier for me to control my wheel.

  10. you are the first person I know playing Pokeman Go. Glad you caught one!
Your spinning is inspiring me to keep going on mine - and I love the trunk picnic picture. Good save on the cranky child. ;)

Argh... Pokemon Go. It just got released here in Canada... My boys are obsessed with it.

    Stormageddon is getting so big!

    1. We're not obsessed in our house but we do play. Unfortunately, I ran out of those little PokeBalls, which meant I needed to go out in to the big, scary world and find some PokeStops to get more balls. Oh well.

  12. Awesome spinning, it's all so pretty. Oh your poor head! I hope it is feeling better and you've had no more migraines. Pokemon Go is fun. It has swept through our house.

  13. Wow! The spinning. So much spinning! It all looks so lovely. I have adult children playing Pokemon Go! They grew up playing it on their Nintendo Game Boys and also collected the cards and played the card game. We still have boxes and boxes of cards at my house--3 boys worth-and they don't even live at home anymore! I would be lost on that app as I know nothing about the game! Loved your trunk picnic--sometimes you just have to improvise, huh?

    1. Sooooooo much spinning. I did a count today and I have eight big projects, several other small projects, and two that are currently in various states of close to done (one is ready to ply, another is started the first half)...soooo much spinning.

  14. ohmyghosh I am so glad you are okay and didn't do too much damage to your head. That sounds painful. I hope all goes well with the procedure for the little one. I have worked in the OR so I know those procedures are usually very very fast. You know my youngest didn't talk until he was 3 and all we had to do was get the older one to stop anticipating what he wanted. I love all the spinning you do but your turquoise colored yarns are just beautiful.
