2. Caffe Macchiato Socks: started May 7, 2016
3. Gex for Niece: started June 28, 2016
4. Corgi Hill Polwarth/Tussah blend (spinning): started July 21, 2016
5. Oh, She IS a Bad Nut: started August 11, 2016

With Ravellenics going on, I've been trying to work on some of these WIPs......okay, really, I've been working on Gex and the Caffe Macchiato socks. I've not touched Wink. I still might during Ravellenics. But, as is usual, Star Tits (Startitis) got the best of me. I was looking through my stash on Ravelry and a few patterns that have jumped out at me from my queue (including both the Herbivore and Boneyard shawls by Stephen West) and I came across one that just started screaming, "HEY, KNIT ME!" And then I had yarn screaming at me from the closet saying, "OH! USE ME FOR THAT ONE!" And....welll....I started another project. Oops. Unfortunately, we haven't been the best of friends. I did the crazy-long cast on (100 sts), got about 13 rows in, and found that I had dropped a stitch. I managed to find it, catch it, and get it back up to where it was supposed to be....except I didn't pick it up correctly and I couldn't be assed enough to fix it properly because I was already frustrated. Because I was only on row 13, I frogged it and started over. I've caught up and I'm beyond my frogging point. Here's to hoping all keeps going well....

I'm using some Purl Essence Tranquil yarn that I bought in one of those mill end bags at JoAnn fabrics. I have around 1200 yds to work with, so it should be plenty. I'll have enough to do other things when I finish.

Buuuuut, back to the other knitting I did. I had a snafu this week:

That is my US #4 Knit Picks Options interchangeable tip. Snapped while I was working on the hem of Gex. I lost a bunch of stitches but managed to catch them all and get them onto a spare needle I had lying around (US #1, if you're curious). Luckily, it's Knit Picks. Don't get me wrong, Knit Picks has faults; all places do. One of the things that they are really good about: replacements when things break. Aside from having difficulty finding the account (it was listed under my maiden name, even though everything comes in my married name), I got my new tips without any issue. In the meantime, however, I had a hem I was in the middle of knitting...but I also have a set of rosewood interchangeable needles, also from Knit Picks (that Husband bought me for Christmas a few years ago). So, I switched out the broken needle with one of the rosewood tips and worked on my merry way. The hem is actually finished and I'm working on the sleeves now.

This is the proof that I switched to the rosewood (it's on the right). I'm beyond this now, obviously.

My wheel is still just.....hanging out, really. I'm waiting for parts so I can give Viktor a tune-up.

I wish I could say this week has been exciting but, really, no...it hasn't. We've done all the "usual" things like running errands and going to the gym, but we've not really gotten out to do anything overly exciting. No fun day adventures to the zoo or the aquarium or anywhere, really. Okay, that's not entirely true. We did get to the park a couple times this week; yesterday was a kindergarten playdate at one of the parks. All the families with children going into kindergarten at Little Man's school were invited. I'd say about half showed up. I know many are still traveling and using up the last of summer. We also went on Friday morning with another friend from Little Man's class (he will also be going into kindergarten with him but he didn't go on Saturday).

Oh, I went to see Bad Moms this week with a couple of the other moms from Little Man's preschool class. It was 100% worth it; it was absolutely hilarious. Obviously not appropriate for children. But such a fun movie. My only complaint is that all the moms in the movie are skinny. They're a little lacking in diversity of mombods. Okay, it's a lot. But, it's still really good. I also love that JJ Watt was in it as the soccer coach. If you're unfamiliar with him, JJ Watt was born in Wisconsin, played for my beloved Wisconsin Badgers, and now plays professional football for the Houston Texans. Oh, and he can apparently act. Also, Jada Pinkett Smith. Love her.

What else....oh, the important thing: Husband left for Wisconsin on Thursday afternoon. He won't be back until late tomorrow night. That means I've been flying solo with the boys since Thursday...hence going to the park and more knitting time. Unfortunately, he got sick. He went back for the Great Taste of the Midwest and was so sick he didn't even get to go. On top of that, the friends that he & our friend that went along stayed with....well, he got into a motorcycle accident earlier this week (maybe last weekend, I can't remember). He hit a deer head-on, going at least 60 MPH, on his motorcycle. Aside from all his gear being ripped to shreds (including his helmet) and his bike being absolutely trashed, the worst he suffered was a broken collar bone. He's sore and bruised and such but, you know, he could be dead. It wasn't like he hit some little yearling or a doe. He hit a buck, and it was at least a 10-pointer. So, there's that. It's just been....well, it wasn't the fun trip he was hoping for. I suspect Husband has got something nasty like the flu or strep, courtesy of the plan. ::sigh::

Other than that, not much else has happened around here. I acquired some more yarn (yes, I need to do a Stash Enhancement post), my new needle tips arrived, and my first club shipment from StevenBe.....but that's going to be another post because #StevenBeInappropriate (yeah, you can look up the hashatg in Instagram or Facebook or Twitter...). Exciting times.

No photos of Little Man, this week......hardly any photos, really.

Sesame Street is going to be HUGE in our house.

He found Little Man's hat, which no longer fits...and he has claimed it as his own.

Doctor Who is also HUGE in our house.

Don't be fooled. He's not asleep. We were cuddling and he closed his eyes and the photo happened.

And lastly, proof that my StevenBe box came :)

I hope you're all having a lovely week. Little Man starts school on Wednesday :)

  1. Hope the frog is finished visiting your house and is gone on his merry way, and I'm glad you were able to get the needle tip replaced so quickly and hassle free. I hope your husband is better soon and what a shame his trip wasn't the trip he was hoping for, how extremely lucky his friend! Can't wait to see the StevenBe box!

  2. Aww...too bad for the husband! Exciting times, kindergarten! Good luck to him! Here, teachers go back on the 22, students the 29....sorry about your needles, glad they are good at replacements...I've yet to jump into the interchangables...

    1. I have a love-hate relationship with my interchangeables. If they're behaving themselves, it's fine....when they're not, whole other issue. I've had needles come unscrewed while knitting, and then, obviously, the snapped needle. But that's about the worst of it. I think the only reason the needle snapped is because I was working on too long of a cord, though I managed to finish without further incident. I don't know.

  3. That's great to know that KnitPicks is good at replacing things when needed. Sometimes starting over a project is what is needed.Sorry your husband got sick. I'm so glad your friend is alive. He is very lucky to have survived. 10 pointers are huge!!

    1. With as many complaints as there are about Knit Picks, I'm not surprised that their customer service is pretty good, really.

    1. You will love it. Seriously. Such a funny movie...lots of f-bombs, however. That doesn't bother me a bit but I know some people don't understand the need for them.

  5. It's good to hear that Knit Picks is good about replacing items. I want to love KnitPicks - they have some really pretty-looking stuff, but my first experience was with Brava Worsted after they changed manufacturers left me less than impressed. I was disappointed in the product (I really don't understand the good reviews), how slowly they ended up putting my review up (like 6 months late), and their attitude about the complaints they were getting on the Brava change of manufacturers (just didn't think it was an issue when I called and asked them about it). I still visit their website and drool over their lovely catalog, though. One of these days I may take another chance...

    1. I'm working with Brava Worsted right now (the little Gex sweater) and for an acrylic yarn, it's pretty good. My biggest complaint about most acrylic is that it just feels scratchy and nasty and the Brava doesn't have that. I mean, I can tell it's acrylic but it doesn't have the "OMG I KNOW YOU'RE ACRYLIC" feeling to it.

As far as the change in manufacturer, they act blasé about it because there's nothing they (customer service and the rest of the peons) can do. I'm guessing the original manufacturer either stopped doing it or changed something major (it was probably ultimately related to ROI - Return on Investment) and the new one made more financial sense. It's not pretty but it's how business has to work sometimes.

Take another chance. I'm a fan of the Swish line, as well.

  6. Glad the snafu has a happy ending. Stephen West - he is quite the designer. I haven't attempted one....yet. But there is still time.

  7. Ugh, I hate it when my needles break. I'm glad you had something else you could use. I'm so glad your friend is okay after that accident. He is lucky.
