Apparently I needed a palette cleanser type of project....one that would go quickly. So, I started a hat using some bulky yarn I've got hanging around (Malabrigo Chunky from when I made the Freeport Vest - I'm pretty sure these were just leftover bits and not from when I frogged the project). I'm undecided whether I'll write up the pattern or not. I might but I might not. Either way, I found out I skipped a YO, making my stitch count off and I tried to force one in (it was about 5 rounds down) but I eventually just ripped back. I threaded an insanely long US #0 circular through the round and ripped back. I only went a stitch too low on two of them (and they were right next to each other and at the beginning of the round) so now I'm back on track.

In addition to that, I spent some time on Wink this week....not that I got all that far but I still did a few rows. I also worked a bit here and there on both the Vanillaish Rainbow Socks and the Veggie Socks. I'm maybe 10-12 rounds away from starting toe decreases on the Veggie Sock. I also pulled out my SOSocks but I didn't actually work on them.

Moving along.......

This week has been a bit of a whirlwind, as it usually is.

If you'll remember, I took Husband and our friend to the airport for Beerfest. That was all fine and well. Husband bought a car while he was in Wisconsin and they drove it back (yes, you read that all correctly: bought a car & drove it back). They arrived on Monday while the boys and I were at the Ice Cream Social.

On Monday, the Ice Cream Social happened at Little Man's school. It's the event where we find out which teachers our kids have, we can buy school logo wear, pick up all the epic amounts of paperwork that we have to fill out, mingle with other parents/families we haven't seen in 2 months, and for new families, they get to learn about the school, some of the events throughout the year......basically, I had a table set up for the auction. I have several that were interested in helping so we'll see where that all goes. There were also tables set up for the Dad's Club, the Boy Scouts, and the Girl Scouts. It was a long afternoon but things went well.

And that means.......

Tuesday was Little Man's first day of first grade. He has the same teacher he had for Kindergarten but they revamped things so his class is half first and half Kinder. There is a straight Kinder and then the rest of the first graders are in 1st/2nd combination classes (there's also a 2nd/3rd and a straight 3rd, I believe). Basically, things were moved all about. I don't know if "better" is a way to describe it but it's how it worked with the numbers. He was really nervous on Monday until I got a hold of the list and told him that out of all the kids in his class, he didn't know four, and that included the incoming kindergarteners (because he know almost all of them from preschool two years ago).

And yes, Little Man is wearing a sweater I knit him. Unfortunately, even though I knit a couple sizes larger, it's getting too small for him. ::sigh:: Stormageddons sweater is not handknit (it's probably from Gap Kids or Children's Place and once belonged to Little Man).

Husband stayed home on Tuesday because he was exhausted from all the driving. We wound up going out for breakfast after dropping Little Man off at school and then we took the car to get washed.

They have this coin-operated duck ride (the place is called Ducky's) and even though it wasn't working, Stormageddon loved it. He kept climbing on it. Hey, it kept him occupied while the car got washed and vacuumed and such.

We're still working on getting used to the new schedule. School starts at the same time but Little Man is there for two hours more than he was last year so now Stormageddon and I have two more hours to hang out together. It's been interesting...around noon I start thinking we should go get Little Man but we still have time. The nice thing is that if I need to run to the grocery store or Costco or wherever, I don't have to plan the morning as strictly to accommodate the hour or so it's going to take to get over there, shop, and get home before pickup. That's been nice. It also means that if we need to wait an hour before there's a spot in the Kids' Club at the gym, we can do that, too (not that we've had to yet but the option is there, should the need arise).

Little Man got a new sweatshirt this past week. It's a Creeper from Minecraft. That boy loves Minecraft. It's too big for him (by about 2 sizes)....so it's really too big for Stormageddon but here he is, wearing it.

Apparently Little Man is Steve....? Yeah, I don't get it either. I don't Minecraft. Whatever.

And no week would be complete without a photo of someone sleeping.

I think this was Wednesday night. Husband wasn't home quite yet (it was after 10pm) and he woke up and crawled up into my lap and fell right back asleep. It's a good thing he's cute.

I hope you're all having a lovely weekend. I'm quite possibly a bit hungover today as last night was the Mom's Martini Party. Oops :)

  4. With your life it is amazing you get any knitting done! You are a busy Mom and with school starting and shopping and scheduling...all Mothers are amazing at this time of year and actually 365 days a year.
YOur boys are so cute and photogenic....absolutely love the picture of Stormageddon in the Creeper sweatshirt....too darn cute! Actually, they should make Winter coats like that...especially in the North where there are blizzards and frostbite warnings.
Good for you on the Auction and taking part in your school. I hope you get the help you need. Congrats on the car...it must have been a good deal because that is a long, long drive! LOL! And yes....at the end of that week you deserve a martini!
