I actually knit the second mitten between 7pm Friday and 12:30am Saturday and I wasn't knitting on it that whole time (put the kids to bed, ate some dinner, etc.).

14. Rasta Ski Cap: started November 25, 2017

I've not started anything new, which is probably a good thing, judging on how this list is looking.

I've done a little knitting this week. I worked on the Rasta Ski Cap for a few rounds. I've started with the black yarn so it's hard to see in some light, which means I've only worked a little bit on it.

I finished the first of Little Man's mittens on Thursday night and, as I mentioned above, I started the second one on Friday. I had to take some notes so I can make it's match. Thankfully it was bulky yarn on big(ish) needles so it was a fairly quick project. The only thing that bothered me...well, there are two things: (1) they're acrylic and because my hands get drier in the winter, the yarn sticks to them a bit more and (2) one mitten took up more than half a skein of yarn so I had to break into the second/last skein, meaning I have bits of two separate skeins. I don't know what I'm going to do with them. Part of me wants to just toss them but they're red so maybe I'll make those little red hats. I don't know.

In addition to working on the ski cap and finishing up the mittens, I spent some time trying to finish the ribbing on the first of the Paradiddle Prototype (socks). I think I have two rounds left on the ribbing. ::sigh:: But, I got a chance to work on it, which is lovely.

I also did some reorganization on my side of the bed, resulting in every project being touched, at the very least...some were moved around and looked at and others had some work done to them....but my corner is significantly cleaner.

It appears I was rather lax with my photography this week. Seriously. I took four photos between last Sunday and Friday evening. All four were of cats. We don't own cats. I am, in fact, extremely allergic to cats. Yet I have four photos of cats.

Where I'm from, you have indoor cats or you have farm cats. Outdoor cats in the city was not a thing where I grew up. Plenty of my friends had barn kitties but they all lived outside of town. So, it was definitely a new thing when we moved to California to discover that people in the city had indoor and/or outdoor cats and there were even some feral ones running amok.

So, what does this have to do with the four photos of the two kitties above? A house about a block away from us has a glaring of kitties on their doorstep every morning and they come and go throughout the day. The people that live in the house feed all the cats of the neighborhood: indoor, feral, indoor/outdoor...they all know to come to this house. Some mornings we have walked by and there are only one or two (as was the case the morning I took the above photos) but other mornings, there are upwards of 10 cats hanging around outside, waiting for food. The neighbors next to them trap the ferals and get them all fixed (vaccinations, neutering, etc.). Unfortunately, they've not been able to catch the queen of the ferals and there's got to be at least one tom running around because she keeps having babies.

The two kitties above are probably related.

We had a very bland week around here. The only thing that really happened was that Little Man took a winter bug class yesterday. I have a knitting friend that is an entomologist and she teaches kids about bugs....like that's her job. She has a PhD and a house filled with bugs (in cages). The first time we were over to their house, Little Man happened upon her office, which has several cages of bugs, specifically cockroaches. He came bolting out of that room very quickly. The first class Little Man ever took with her was a Bugs of Pokémon class and he loved it. So, this time around, it was on how bugs survive winter and there were games and he came home with an ornament. Again, he loved it. So, if you're in the San Francisco area, check out the Beetlelady. She does free events/classes through the local libraries, she teaches in classrooms, and she even will do private lessons and birthday parties. Also, she's a knitter and absolutely lovely :)

Really, we did not have much of anything going on this week. I'm hoping it kind of stays that way. I rather like having some room to breathe.

Anyway, sorry this is all so short today. I hope you're having a lovely weekend!
