I've not finished anything new. I did get a FO Friday post and a Stash Saturday post posted this past weekend but that's it.

Sadly, I also had a frogging this past week. I pulled out my Morvarch shawl and intended to work on it. And I did. Except a few things went wrong. The first thing that was bothering me: my needles. I was using Addi Lace needles but the needle portion was brass. Apparently I'm one of those special people that wind up with sticky brass needles. So, my stitches weren't moving across the needles and the needles themselves were tacky. It was not pretty. The second thing that was bothering me: a M1p I had picked up incorrectly many, many, many rounds back and it's not like I could drop down to fix it. I mean, I maybe could have but it would have been a big mess. I had a large hole that looked out of place (because it was). The third thing that was bothering me: when I picked it back up, I must have changed how I was working the M1p stitches because instead of the holes I had been getting, I was now getting no evidence of the holes. I didn't notice it for maybe three rounds. So, after some minor cursing, I decided to frog it and start over....except I haven't started over yet.

11. Paradiddle Prototype: started October 19, 2017
12. Rasta Ski Cap: started November 25, 2017

I spent time working on my Smooth Operator Socks this week. I'm about halfway down the leg on the second sock. They're my current "take everywhere" knitting because the pattern is easy to read and fairly straight-forward. That will change when I get to the heel but that's not for another 20ish rounds. I've got a little time before I need to worry about heel placement.

I've also been working on the Paradiddle Socks and the Rasta Ski Cap. The socks are just continuing to grow at this point. The hat, on the other hand, is ready for decreases, which I started last night. So, that's all very exciting. Or not. It depends on how you look at it. It's progress and that's lovely.

My remaining lists look like this (and obviously I didn't get around to the remaining bits here):

Given that today is Christmas Eve, it's been a rather busy week around here. Little Man had school through Thursday, and he doesn't go back until January 9th. So, we spent the last week trying to take care of a few random things around here.

As per usual, our week started out with Stormageddon in our bed. Again. Everyone gets a lot more sleep if we just let him climb into our bed in the middle of the night. ::sigh::

Monday afternoon, a package arrived. After opening it, we found...

.....a train. Specifically, we found the Lionel Harry Potter Train (O Gauge, if you're a model train person). Husband found it on the Costco website and ordered it. The boys love it.

By the time Wednesday rolled around, I decided we needed to see Santa. We hadn't been yet and it was getting to be about that time. Since Wednesdays are minimum days for Little Man, we were able to get to the mall in the early afternoon. Unfortunately, a drive that should have taken 15 minutes took almost 45 minutes due to some stupidity (lane closure that wasn't disclosed until you were right on top of it). Soooo, we wound up in a line that was a bit longer than I would have liked but the boys were okay for the most part. We were going to eat lunch at the mall afterwards but Stormageddon started getting uncooperative.

Clearly he was not thrilled with sitting in the stroller or being told there was a 10 minute wait for a table at California Pizza Kitchen. Oh well.

Thursday was Little Man's last day of school before break. His class sang at morning gathering (I took video) and they spent the morning working on gingerbread houses. Since it was a Thursday, Husband worked from home and stayed with Stormageddon while I actually got to work in Little Man's classroom.

We had probably 12 or so parents working in the classroom (about 3/table) and it worked out really well. The kids had so much fun and I loved seeing them work in the classroom.

Afterwards, I had a lunch date in Los Altos....which involved a trip to Uncommon Threads. I came home with one skein of yarn (Lorna's Laces) and some US #3 needles to restart Morvarch. Stormageddon came with me and they have a rocking sheep. He fell in love.

We just barely made it back to pick up Little Man from school. He brought home his gingerbread house, which lasted maybe five minutes after this photo was taken. Maybe.

On Friday, Little Man and I had an afternoon together. We went to the post office and to the UPS shipping place.....and then we were going to go ice skating downtown. The only problem was that the line was a mile long and an hour wait, which he wasn't crazy about. However, the ice rink over by Target was open. It was open when we first moved here, then it closed for several years (no idea why) and now it's open again. They had open skate so we went over and he attempted to skate for about a half hour.

He's been telling me he wants to play hockey. The only reason I'm not crazy about it is because it's almost prohibitively expensive. I told him maybe he should learn to skate properly first. At first, that sounded like a good idea. Then, on the way home, he told me his finger hurt (he had fallen on his hands more than once) and then said he never wanted to skate again. That was Friday afternoon. Yesterday, he asked me if we could look into skating lessons for him. Silly boy.

Stormageddon has discovered one-piece jammies. He loves a couple footie jammies that used to be Little Man's. He also likes dress-up stuff so the fact that he can sleep in this Bucky Badger is like heaven to him.

Yesterday, we didn't do a whole lot, actually. It was a relatively quiet day, other than having to go to Costco at 6:30pm because we were going to run out of milk otherwise. Oops. I guess I didn't plan that one out too well.....

I hope you've had a lovely weekend, Happy Christmas (if that's your thing), and I'll be back next week with the wrap-up. It will probably also contain info about the Rasta Ski Cap because I hope to have it finished by then and I'd rather not throw it into the first update for next year.

  1. Sorry about the frogging but you will be happy you did and with your new needles too. Thanks for the Christmas pics. We are by ourselves this Christmas - no little ones - so it was great to live vicariously through your post.
