I had some good knitting time this week. I didn't knit every day or anything (the beginning of the week was beyond crazy at my house) but I took Wednesday evening and went to the knitting group and I spent some time on Thursday knitting.

I'm working on procuring another skein of the Marisol Hap'i yarn for the baby blanket so that project is on hold until that package arrives. Once the yarn arrives, it's on like Donkey Kong! I have a recipient for the blanket. I was thinking of just selling it but Husband's youngest cousin is pregnant and she is definitely knitworthy (she's an artist herself so she gets how much work goes into things). Also, I happen to like this cousin...not that I don't like his other ones but I like her and she's knitworthy.

In addition to that, I worked on my two newest projects this week. I spent part of Wednesday evening figuring out how I was going to stripe my leftover sock bits. The orange and the green do not go well next to each other but if I break them up with the purple, they're fine. So I think I'm going to alternate purple, orange, purple, green, purple, orange, purple, green so they look like the Frankensocks they will become. I also made an amateur mistake: I know at least two of these yarns still seep color when they're washed...I need to wash and reset all of them but I've already started on my sock. So, I think I'm going to put the yarn on some cotton string I have (when I get to the color change) and wash it in citric acid or vinegar, along with the rest of the ball, and hank the other two yarns and do the same, and attempt to reset them. I'm not that worried about the green or orange but if the purple bleeds into either the other colors, it's not going to be pretty....

I also spent some time on the Returning Shawl. I think I'm going to look through my stash for a different contrast color. The blue just isn't right, which is fine...but I need to find another one. Someone suggested a burgundy, purple, or pink to me...and I'm not opposed to any of those ideas. I might even have an appropriate pink in my stash. I'll have to think about it.

It's amazing. Work on a project and it magically grows. Who knew?! This was taken Wednesday night in darker lighting than I would have liked and, as a result, it appears much more on the pink spectrum. It's actually on the green side (the colorway is called Lilypad). Unfortunately, on Thursday, I had to tink back two rows and a few stitches of a third of this because I found a mistake on the edge. Once that was fixed, however, I was on my way. I worked a couple rows on Thursday and a couple more yesterday. It's fairly mindless knitting, as long as I remember my M1s and my YOs. So far, so good :)

This past week and this next week, things are getting crazy in my little enclosed auction-land. I spent the first half of this week getting the raffle tickets organized and out to families as well as working on catalog editing and layout (I was not the only one working on that, thankfully). It's why I didn't get any knitting done until Wednesday. Tuesday was particularly rough. I spent a good portion of the day getting raffle tickets sorted into piles of 10, stuffed into envelopes with directions, and then labeling the envelopes by hand. I'm not labeling catalogs by hand. No way, no how. I think I went to bed after midnight on Tuesday but everything worked out fine, envelopes went to the teachers, and I've already started receiving envelopes back for the grand raffle. This week, the catalog will be going home, the online auction starts, and raffle tickets and auction tickets will be further acquired. So, it's going to be a busy week. Again. Oh, and I need to make sure all the gift certificates and such for the online auction are accounted for.

In other random events, my stitches came out on Thursday afternoon. If I had my way, I would have cut them out myself on Monday. My hand was soooo itchy that it was keeping me up at night.

It doesn't look bad at all. It was three stitches and I missed everything major in my hand, which was a blessing. Just a flesh wound. The direct site is still a bit sore but it's not really bothering me that much unless I bump it.

Remember the lizard Little Man caught a couple weeks ago when we found the unexpected water thing in our yard? Apparently, it likes our house because I've seen it several times.

The second photo is more difficult to see but it's right in front of the planter box on the middle step.

I also went out for a breakfast date with Stormageddon this week. He was sick earlier in the week (fever, coughing til he threw up, the whole thing - he actually missed both his speech classes this week because of it). He's over it now, except the cough. So we kind of took it easy earlier in the week. But toward the end of the week, we needed a little date.

He was busy not eating and playing with the jelly containers and the creamer containers. As one does.

And then he switched spots so he could drink his milk on the other side of me. And he wouldn't take his hat off. I'm not offended except that it's getting too small and I might need to make a bigger one for him. ::sigh::

Also, work was supposed to start on that weird water thing in our front yard. They've known about it for two weeks. It was supposed to be removed this week. They didn't even come until Friday.

And this is how it still looked yesterday:

...except the motor thing in the middle isn't there. We still have barricades and a wooden cover and such. No progress. ::sigh:: This thing is still in our yard. My cherry tree is in a bucket with some dirt. I'm not very happy.

On Saturday, Little Man decided he wanted to try riding his bike again. He needed air in his tires and there were some other things that needed adjusting. Husband did the tires. I did all the other adjustments. His seat needed to be raised like 4" and one of his training wheels needed tightening. He has a tendency to lean to the right although he's starting to understand there's kind of a back and forth rhythm to it. Unfortunately, the leaning to the right meant I needed to adjust the training wheel on that side a couple of times. It was okay, though. He went about halfway down our street a couple of times and then he went all the way down to the end and back. I went along with him because he forgets to toggle his wheel when he gets too close to cars and he still needs someone to help remind him to move out of the way for cars.

Other than that, we attended a birthday party at one of the gymnastics places around here, I did work for the auction, and Husband bought a bunch of Legos. I'm okay with all of that.

If you're interested, I had two updates yesterday: a "before Stitches" stash update and a "Stitches" stash update. Basically, I bought yarn and it's pretty and you should go look at it :)

I hope you've had a lovely weekend. Stupid Daylight Savings is messing with me, of course...::sigh::

  1. Our Stitches is at the end of the month, but it's United, so not just yarn, but sewing, quilting, needlepoint, etc...but there are a few vendors I can't wait to try..

  2. It's wonderful how donors are generous in donating for the auction. Glad your hand is in the mend. I see my doctor tomorrow for a follow-up on my toe. We took off the training wheels for our girls. Instead we had used their bikes three years ago as balance bikes with the pedals off until they were coasting along well with balance. My husband put back on the pedals and off they tried pedaling.
