I didn't get a lot of knitting done this past week, honestly. I finished up the leg and the heel flap on the Paradiddle Prototype sock and realized that I was running low on yarn. I was sure I had a leftover ball from the first pair of socks I made out of the same yarn (Vanilla Socks).....except I didn't. I ransacked my bits stash for the rogue ball of leftover yarn and finally looked at the project page for the first pair of socks and realized that I had, in fact, broken into the second ball of yarn......meaning I had less than a full skein to start with. I am going to run out of yarn....and, of course, it's a discontinued yarn (and company, as Colinette is no more either). Luckily, I found someone on Ravelry with a skein of it for sale and I've paid for it and I should have it tomorrow. But, you know, I'm trying to reduce my stash. ::sigh:: But, it's coming. And I finished the heel flap.

I also worked a little bit on the Returning Shawl this week. It was my car knitting when we went to Santa Rosa. I think I'm at the point where I start working the second color but I have to double check. And then I need to figure out what I'm going to use for contrast colors. I should maybe get on that soon.

I also worked on the Clapotis shawl. I don't know if I'm going to make it as wide as the original. I haven't decided yet. I only have the two skeins of yarn so I may have to weigh things out and go from there. Or not. I could just wing it. But I did work on it.

And Tour de Fleece started yesterday. We probably shouldn't talk about that. We were busy yesterday and no spinning happened. I did fondle some fiber.......

In addition to that, I did some dyeing this week. I dyed 11 skeins of yarn and a braid of merino fiber (Malabrigo undyed, which I fondled yesterday to make sure it was dry - the extent of my TdF beginnings yesterday). I'm going to have to start selling this stuff because it's taking over my stash. I haven't bothered to take photos, though. I might want to get on that. Most of them need re-skeining. I might think about that this week. Maybe not.

Husband took this past week off form work and the hol on the 4th just further messed up my days. I spent Monday thinking it was Friday, Wednesday thinking it was Saturday, Thursday thinking it was Sunday, and yesterday was somehow the right day, even though I was sure Saturday had happened at least twice in there. I'm not quite sure how all that happened but it did.

We harvested our first cucumbers. They're currently in the big jar in the fridge, pickling properly. They should be good to go in a week or so. In the meantime, we have more coming.

It's been awhile since the boys and I have had a trunk picnic at Target but we needed to go the other day for dog food and a few other random amenities. And it was lunchtime. And we were out. So we grabbed a little Pizza Hut Pan Pizza, a banana (because Stormageddon was being himself), a couple of milks, and called it good.

Other events this week included a playdate/pool party with a classmate of Little Man's. They've actually not been in the same class the last two years but they are in the same grade, I know the parents, and one of this classmate's younger brothers is dragged to the gym with dad and is Stormageddon's age (and they're totally buddies).....so it was fine. Unfortunately, Little Man got sunburned on his shoulders :( We've been gooping him up with the green aloe gel stuff. Poor kiddo. The crazy part is that he had sunscreen on....but I didn't reapply like you're supposed to. So, it's kind of my fault.

That night, Mama went out with some other parent friends. Much alcohol was consumed.....and even though I'm very out of practice because I hardly ever drink, I still drank everyone under the table.

I think I wound up having......six or seven mixed drinks. The lovely lady sitting across from us in the bottom photo was keeping up with me and she was a little bit more tipsy than I was. Honestly, I would have been fine driving, other than tired. I wouldn't have driven but I would have been fine.

On Saturday, one of Little Man's best friends had his birthday party so we were there. It was at a park and all was well. I made sure to sunscreen him properly. He was fine, other than hot and he had sunscreen in his eyes. ::sigh:: I just can't win. After the birthday party, I went out with some other mom friends for dinner and drinks. There's a new German Beer & Brat place here in town so we tried that.

My photo is sideways and I don't care. That was my dinner. Mmmmmmmm.....cheddar brat....and pomegranate cider. That didn't make for a late night, at least.

Anyway, I hope to get spinning today....but we have two more birthday parties to go to today. Yesterday Little Man said, "okay, mama, we have two more parties, right? After that, can we stay home all week?"

I think he's peopled out. I don't blame him.

I hope you're having a lovely weekend :)

  3. No wonder you didn't get much knitting done! I would be exhausted! I love the lunch in the trunk...too cute. Your cukes look gorgeous. I wish I had friends here to go out with occasionally but no one here goes my brand. There are some new neighbors moving in from CA though so maybe they will like me? I'm 'too progressive' for these here hills. But since I have trouble watching tv and knitting maybe it's best I stay to myself! LOL!
I would love to learn to spin but it's just not a priority right now. Good luck with the TDF!

  5. Your pickles are just coming on and ours are about done, the heat has about done us in too. I have some fleece that really needs to be washed and then I'll think about the dying but I have some that is ready to spin too. Good Luck on your progress in the tdf!
