I'm officially done playing yarn chicken with the Age of Brass & Steam shawl. I'm going to run out of yarn and I have one row and the bind-off. So, I think I'm going to see if I have some extra in a close enough color (leftover from Little Man's Greyson sweater) and just do the bind-off instead of knitting the last row. I think that will work. I hope.

I also worked on the Sockhead this week. It's probably fine to start doing the decreases but I haven't bothered yet.

And, of course, I started another project. I had cold feet the other day and I decided I needed a pair of squishy house socks that were fairly quick....and the Campfire Socks fit the bill. But they're nowhere near finished yet, of course. They're done in a DK weight yarn on US #4 needles. I'm actually using DPNs on these, which is rare for socks but it's what I have. I'm maybe a few inches down the leg, which is lovely.

Mooooving along...

This week has been........well, it's not been the loveliest of weeks. Little Man was still on fall break and we had a few things here and there to take care of.

The washer is fixed for now. There were a few factors and we addressed all of them: the water pressure was too high (turned it down), the soap dispenser motor & motherboard were fried (both were replaced), and there's an issue with electrical surges around here (so we added a surge protector). Hopefully this fixes the issue because not having a washing machine is....well, it makes my anxiety go through the roof.

But that meant waiting around several different days. They were supposed to be here on Monday but the parts didn't all come in. So, it was rescheduled for Wednesday. But the parts still weren't in. So, they rescheduled it for Friday. It was finally addressed on Friday, over a week after the last person had been here. ::sigh::

In addition to that, we've had some issues with peeling & bubbling paint on the house siding. We took care of most of it ourselves (sand, spackle, sand, paint) but there were spots that the ladder could reach but we couldn't get on the ladder to reach them (weight limit on the ladder) so we had a friend of Husband's come over to help us out on Thursday. And while we were doing that, Husband said, "is that bubbling paint?"

Nooooooooooooooope. It was wood rot. So a section of the siding on our house was pulled off, we had to order replacement siding (which should be here tomorrow or Tuesday), and then we discovered the gate was breaking on the other side so I had to go get a new board for that....and then we see that there is another board that is going to need replacing soon. GRRRRRRR!

That's about a 9' high section, maybe 20' across, that needs replacing. I'm not thrilled about it but better to find it now than later. Also, it hadn't seeped inside yet and we sprayed it with an anti-fungal/anti-pest spray that kills any existing fungus/pests and keeps it from coming back.

Buuuut, it wasn't all about fixing up the house this week. The boys and I also went to the San Francisco Zoo on Wednesday.

Not gonna lie: I love the red panda. There are three in the enclosure, two females, and this male. And while the females are perfectly content to just chill and sleep, the male is a bit of a show-off. Also, they really only do somersaults in captivity. No one's really sure why that is.

The male lion was just sitting there, watching the people. The female was snoozing nearby.

The fact that both of them fell asleep on the way home is the sign of a successful trip. The zoo was pretty empty, because most kids are in school, but we still managed to find a family we knew. We ran into a classmate of Little Man's, who was there with his two younger brothers (the youngest is Stormageddon's age) and dad. So, we hung out with them for the rest of our trip at the zoo, which was lovely.

I also had a breakfast date with the boys, probably on Monday.

Yesterday, we had a slurry of activities and I woke up sick. It wasn't the most pleasant day but we were okay. The boys and I went to the Pumpkin Patch that we go to every year. They both got their pumpkins, bag of candy & goodies, and had their faces painted.

After that, we went to the mall here and did a "make your own trick-or-treat bag" at Lush. I don't have photos of that but the bags turned out really cute. Little Man did his own and I helped Stormageddon.

Anyway, I hope you're having a lovely week and weekend :)

  1. Haven't been to the zoo since the youngest was in 2nd grade but oh boy do I remember the miles one can put in there. LOL on the car sleeping. These boys need those seatbelt pillows. My girls need them sometimes too.

  2. Hope Little Man isn't suffering too much. How nice to have a fall break, damn, that's like Christmas come early. Stay healthy.
Are you taking classes at STITCHES in February?
