Because I've been traveling the last few days, I wound up starting some new projects. The only one I've made any real progress on is the second Violet Waffles hat. I started the socks to try out my new Addi FlexiFlips. I'm still undecided about them. I also started another shawl...because I don't have enough going on, I guess.

Aside from the finished hat and the three new projects, I've not done much knitting this past week and I'm okay with that.

Mooooving along...

This has been a rough week.

I mentioned last week that I needed to take an emergency trip home...and I'm writing this from my best friend's house in Wisconsin. I head back to San Francisco tomorrow morning at the buttcrack of dawn.

Last week on Friday, I talked to my bestie back home. Her dad was diagnosed with ALS in June, if I remember correctly. While ALS is a progressive disease, it was progressing faster than expected. He had fallen the week prior to that (a second fall) and he just deteriorated quickly. I got a text from her on Saturday night telling me that her dad had passed away earlier that day. So, plans were made, tickets acquired, a standby flight to Chicago on Thursday (and another one tomorrow morning), and a bus trip back home.

The week also started out with wildfire smoke. We're about 200 miles away from the Camp Fire up by Chico and Paradise but the way the wind has been blowing.....we're getting all the smoke in San Francisco. The air quality was the worst in the entire world on Friday. The masks and air filters were all sold out, Amazon was on backorder for the area....it was a mess. I was kind of glad to be leaving, to be honest.

Little Man had half-days all week because of parent-teacher conferences. Husband had to go on Thursday because I was on a plane. Luckily, one of my besties from college had come out to visit when all this crap happened and she is helping out Husband with the kids while I've been gone. But with the air quality, school was cancelled on Friday. They're going back tomorrow, thankfully, but it will still be a half-day tomorrow and Tuesday (they're off the rest of the week for Thanksgiving). It'll be fine.

So, my trip home.....Thursday was the travel day. Friday, we spent most of the afternoon in the kitchen. I made a few rounds on Friday morning (I went to the yarn shop and the grocery store before visiting my mother's and grandparents' graves), and then we cooked a ton of food. I made three pans of lasagna (one for dinner that night, and two to put in her mom's freezer), she made a spaghetti casserole for the post-funeral luncheon, we made about 125 jello shots for the 90s party we went to on Saturday night, and we just tried to keep it all together. Saturday was the funeral. It was, of course, a typical military funeral including the 21-gun salute, followed by the luncheon. By the time we got back to my friend's house, it was like 5pm and we were exhausted....but we had to go to the 90s party that night (she set it up before her dad passed and she wasn't going to back out of it, even though everyone would have understood if she had). To be fair, I think we all needed that last night. Of course, we may have imbibed too much alcohol and I may or may not have been dealing with a nasty hangover this morning that involved puking, among other things. It was kind of like a mini-class reunion because it was mostly people we went to school with, which was fine by me.

Which just brings it all back around to tonight, where I'm getting ready to go home tomorrow. My boys have missed me. I've missed my boys.

No real photos this week. I have a suitcase half filled with various cheeses (it's my carry-on). I have two suitcases filled with beer. Yeah. It's been a long week.

I hope you've all had a better week than I have had.
