You'll notice that I finished up another hat. I haven't had time to wash or photograph it (yet)...or the garter stitch scarf...or the latest dishcloth. I'll get there soon enough. I'm really hoping that the red on the hat doesn't bleed because the other color is white and I'm not sure that the intended recipient wants a pink and red hat. Just a thought.
WORKS-IN-PROGRESS
1. Little Man's Giraffe: started May 11, 2011
2. Icarus Shawl: started March 15, 2010
3. Hermione's Everyday Socks: started March 6, 2012
4. Sweet Girl's Hippo: started May 10, 2012
5. Mama's Vanilla Socks (round 2): started June 29, 2012
6. Christmas Elf Hat: started October 17, 2012
You'll also notice that I started another project. This time, I started the Candy Cane Hat from Itty-Bitty Hats. After several false starts, I finally decided that the yarn was not going to work out the way I wanted it to (which was to be striped, like in the original pattern). I had actually considered throwing the remaining (red) yarn away. I know, it's blasphemous to ever utter the words "throw away" and "yarn" with the connotation that I'm going to throw yarn away in the garbage...but I was so, so frustrated that I was about at that point. Then I had sort of an epiphany: hold the yarn double, CO for a larger size, and hope for the best. So, I'm holding the yarn double and I CO for the 6-12 month size in hopes that it'll fit Sassy Girl or some other cute baby. I'm tempted to donate this particular hat to American Family Childrens' Hospital in Madison with explicit instructions that it's to go to a Christmas baby :) We'll see. It depends on if I can find someone else it will fit first.
I've also spent a decent amount of time working on Little Man's Giraffe this past week. I don't know why I keep putting this off. All I had left to do were make the tail, two horns, eleven spots and the poms for the horns, tail and the mane and attach all of them as well as the ears, and make the face. Now that I've been working on it, I only have to make one horn (don't even get me started on this!), eight of the spots, and the poms before I finish attaching everything and putting on the face. But......those damn poms. They are not my friends. So, I'm going to do some changes. I'm going to make small circular balls instead of the poms for the horns and the end of the tail and I'm going to attempt a crochet loop stitch for the mane...if it doesn't work, I'm going to just make the small balls for the mane, too. It's nothing terribly difficult but I just can't seem to sit down to do it.
I've also worked a couple rounds on my Hermione's Everyday Socks and I've got another, I think six repeats before I separate to do the heel flap and all that. Woo-hoo! My Icarus Shawl is still, sadly, on hold. I have been unable to locate the yarn needed to continue. I know I have it...I just don't know where. ::sigh::
Unfortunately, due to my knitting funk (of sorts), I've had a really bad case of Startitis trying to weasel it's way into my knitting again. This time, though, I want to knit something more substantial than a washcloth or hat. I want to make another sweater...probably for Little Man. And then an opportunity just kind of happened into my lap. One of the groups I belong to on Ravelry is for a designer and she was looking for test knitters for a couple of children's cardigans. I've actually made a pattern of hers before so I kind of know what I'll be getting into. Before I could stop myself, I said I'd be all for it......::sigh:: Won't I ever learn?! This is going to serve a couple of purposes, though. I can stashbust (I'm thinking I'll use up some Cascade 220 that I have or some other worsted weight). Little Man will have a sweet little sweater that he can wear in two years or so. I'm helping someone else out with a design. I can try to cure my Startitis. Oh, and did I mention the stashbusting?! Anyway, I'm hoping it helps.
PLANNED HATS (at least 2 more - 12 total for the year)
1. Hermione Hearts Ron
2. Ogre Babies!
3. NIN Hat
4. Godric's Hollow Hat
5. Bergen Street Tuque
Just two more hats for the year and I'll be caught up :) I'm not sure which one I'm going to do next, though. No matter which one I choose, I'm going to have to whip out the ball winder and swift. Luckily, I know where they are :)
Anyway, that's about all I know for right now. I hope you all have a wonderful week and that the weekends were grand :)
Oh, and some photos for your entertainment :)

I remember when your list was small and short and now lookie at it! 25 FOs! Hooray! I so love that candy cane hat. I can't wait to see more of yours.
ReplyDeleteI actually finished the hat today...well, except for washing and blocking. Oh, and it even fits the size it's intended for.
DeleteStash busting, pattern testing and a useful sweater for little man? That ALL works for me.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your Hermoines. Will you show us after you've turned the heel?
I may have picked out yarn for the sweater :) I'll have to see what gauge does but it should be fine.
DeleteAnd I'll show you the socks after I've turned the second heel :) I did photograph the first one but it's difficult to photograph your own feet properly.
I must say, your "Only" on finishing the giraffe seems like quite a lot of work to me!
ReplyDeleteKeep in mind that each spot only takes me about 5 minutes and the horn (if I get it right) takes about that long...the little balls that I'll probably be doing won't take that long either. The only thing I'm worried about are doing the crochet loops. I'm not sure how that will work out but we'll see.
DeleteWow, your FO list is growing at a pace! I love the elf hat, it's so cute! And yay for finishing the giraffe, I bet Little Man loves it, and he looks so cute in that picture!
ReplyDeleteHe does love the giraffe but it's not quite finished yet. I still have pieces to attach (at least the big parts are already attached like the legs and head). It's still on a little time out while I determine what to do about the poms :)
