FO Friday: Mountains Beanie

Happy Friday!

I have a lovely FO to show you today. Well, I think it's lovely and I assume the designer thinks it's lovely since she designed it and then allowed me to test knit it...

Okay, Renee, get to the point!

Mountains Beanie (link to Project Page)
Pattern: Mountains Beanie by Holly Priestly

Time Frame: started February 9, 2016; finished February 17, 2016

Yarn: Plucky Knitter Primo Sport in Wintry Mix (less than one skein, more than half...haven't actually checked yardage yet)

Needles: US #4 (3.5 mm) 16" circulars and DPNs

Size: One size fits most adult heads...

Modification(s): As this was a test knit for Holly, I made no modifications.

Thoughts: I caught one missed chart symbol, which I assume has been fixed. I only had one other suggestion. In case you didn't notice from the photo above, this hat fits Little Man. To be fair, it does fit me but it's not quite long enough for my liking. The way the pattern was originally written (meaning the pattern I worked from), it had you finish up the mountain charts, knit a certain number of rounds, and start crown decreases. If I had knit to row gauge, the hat would have been far too wide. So, I made the suggestion that instead of "knit X rounds, start crown decreases," how about something like, "knit until X length from cast on" and then start the decreases.

Generally speaking, I have a lot of difficulty making row gauge. If I have my stitch gauge correct, my row gauge will always be off. It's one of the reasons I like directions with length or places where I can adjust to fit properly. If I hadn't been testing, I would have made it longer out of habit and necessity. If I were a new knitter, I may have been disappointed in having a too-short hat.

It's a great pattern, though, and the finished result is lovely. Little Man claimed the hat as his own once it was dry. I have enough yarn to make another one (because I have another full skein) but I may use the yarn for a different project. Sooooooo, there's that.

I hope you're having a lovely Friday. In case you're interested or you missed it or whatever, my Stitches West Post & Stash Enhancement posted on Tuesday....

I should be back on Sunday with my Year of Projects Update.

    1. He fell in love. I mean, really, it's Plucky Primo....how can you not love it?! He's declared it his own and he wears it to school in the mornings when it's "cold."
