Year NINE: Self-Imposed Year of Projects - Memorial Day, Mom's Birthday, and it's Monday! (Update #21)

Happy Monday! I can't say "Happy Memorial Day" because that just sounds so....wrong. So, happy Monday! Also, today would have been my mom's 73rd birthday. She was born on Memorial weekend in 1947 (Sunday, to be exact). Apparently my grandparents had gone fishing near Menominee (northwestern Wisconsin) and my grandma went into labor. It was too far to get back home to Eau Claire so my mom was born in Menominee, and they were moved to Eau Claire soon after. I'm not sure why they had them move hospitals, though I'm sure my grandmother did tell me at some point.

Anyway, it's Monday and I'm a day late (and a dollar short), as usual.

I finished the actual knitting on the Baby Yoda sweater this week. I still need to close up the armpits, attach the ears to the hood, attach the hood to the sweater, and weave in the ends...but the knitting is done. 

I also started the heel flap on my Abracadabra Sock this week. I'm only halfway through it. It was a rough switch as I had just finished the knitting on the sweater, which uses US #13 needles, and then moved to the sock, which uses US #1 needles. 

I think that was about it for actual knitting this past week.

This past week was pretty much the same as usual. The boys had school, Husband and I had to work, and there were trips to the store for groceries. Nothing terribly exciting on that front.

Stormageddon had his class meetings this week (three of them). He's like me and doesn't like to be cold so he'll usually sit with a blanket wrapped around himself for his meetings. 

Also, we've all been going to bed much later than we normally do so I found this one day this week:

Even at nine years old, he still curls up in half a dozen blankets and his toys. I love this kid. He's also my snugglebug and I've got to get the snuggling while the snuggling is good because in a few years he won't want to do it anymore. 

This happened. For those of you that don't know (or don't remember), my hair is a medium brown. I picked up some fun hair dye that was supposed to turn it blue....and while there is a ton of blue in there, it also made my hair very, very, very dark. It's almost black. I have friends that are Filipino, Japanese, Chinese, Korean (bottom line: dark hair)....my hair is darker than theirs. So, I'm getting used to it. It'll wear out eventually. And we'll get to see where all my grey grows in. It'll be fine. It's just hair. 

In addition to that, our inflatable pool arrived. It has been pumped accordingly and filled with water. 

It's been stupid hot here the last couple of days so this was very welcome for the boys. I've not been in it yet, but Husband clearly has. He was brewing beer on Saturday and he hopped in while he was waiting for things like water to boil. 

The only other major thing to happen this week: Puppy got loose and had a neighborhood adventure. Husband has been working in the garage and usually has the door open. There is also a side door that Husband uses and he didn't get it shut all the way. Well, Puppy nudged the door open. Husband didn't register that the dog was in the garage and he bolted. Husband chased him down the block, which wasn't pretty, then came home and shouted at us to get in the car to go look. About a half-hour later, I finally located him but couldn't get a hold of him so he ran down the block. I got in the car and whipped around the block the way and caught him at the other end by throwing open my car door and coaxing him right to me. He knew he was in trouble. He was in the kennel for two days, going out for potty and food. He didn't complain once, except the one time he needed to have a pee. Even now, almost a week later, he's still pretty quiet. The biggest problem with Puppy getting loose is that we're two blocks from a major highway through the Bay Area, which is currently under construction, meaning they've taken down sound walls and fencing, so he could easily hop the cement barriers and get onto the highway. He didn't but that's the biggest fear with him getting loose. He's kind of dumb that way.
