Year NINE: Self-Imposed Year of Projects - Is this the 6th Circle of Hell? (Update #22)

In Dante's Divine Comedy, the Sixth Circle of Hell is reserved for those guilty of heresy or having beliefs of ideas that contradict Christian doctrine. I feel like that's quite fitting for June. I'm not quite sure what happens when we get to October, as there are only Nine Circles of Hell. I guess we'll have to wing it?

Anyway, I'm a day late, as usual, but it's the first of the month so I guess it's okay. Let's get going!

FOs (Finished Objects):
1. Ewetopia Stripey Socks: started 15 November 2018; finished 29 January 2020
2. Tiny Turtle: started 7 November 2019; finished 30 January 2020
3. Mirkwood: started 9 February 2020; finished 17 February 2020
4. Campfire Socks: started 17 October 2018; frogged 9 April 2020
5. Sockhead: started 8 January 2020; finished 25 May 2020

I finished something I wasn't expecting. I expected my next FO to be the Baby Yoda sweater, which still needs things sewn together and such. No, instead I finished up a Sockhead hat. It was intended to be adult-sized...but it fits Stormageddon so I guess it's his hat.

Oh well. I have next week to finish the sweater....

WIPs (Works-in-Progress) (These are carried over year to year if needed):
1. Wink: started 5 January 2015

11. Prototype Something Something Raindrops: started 11 April 2019
12. Baby Yoda: started 14 March 2020

Aside from finishing the aforementioned hat, I also spent some time working on my Herbivore shawl. I only managed three rows the other day but it was three rows I didn't have done prior to that. It's getting more slow-going, though, as the rows get longer. It's a fun project, though I know many complain about the ptbl's. I don't actually mind them too much. I wish my needles were a little sharper as it would help but they're not bad to knit.

But that was about it. ::sigh::

This past week has been...well, it's been a week. I don't even know where to begin, honestly. There's protesting across the country, which has led to riots in some areas, far too much police activity in others, and civilians that aren't even a part of anything are paying the price, including media. It's not been pretty. The closest protests to us are in Oakland, San Jose, and San Francisco. We have friends in Minneapolis, where it started. We have friends in a lot of the big cities where protests are occurring: Los Angeles, Louisville, Minneapolis, here, New York, Milwaukee, Chicago, Washington DC...and it's bad. The protesting is one thing but there are...well, racist piles of crap coming in to stir the shitpots, causing riots and looting. And then our Cheeto-in-Chief turned off all the lights and pretended like no one was home.

I just.....I can't. And I'm white. I cannot even begin to imagine what anyone not white is going through. I...I don't even know what to say because it seems paltry and trite.

I think I'm just going to move on for right now. So, in events closer to home, we have just two and a half weeks of school left. That means we can start planning our summer. *snort* I don't know what kind of plans we're going to have but I'm sure we'll think of something. I've signed up both boys for the summer reading program at the library. It's something I can keep them doing.

We only had a couple of entertaining things happen this week. Little Man found this on Thursday last week:

It's hard to tell but that is a baby salamander. He found it in the house running on our floor. It was teeny tiny. We've not seen any other ones so it may have come in with the last load of wood for the fireplace. Regardless, Little Man caught it, showed Stormageddon (who was having a class meeting), and then took it outside to release it. It was just a baby.

Also, Husband brewed beer on Saturday. We use the spent grains to help fertilize the lawn, fill in holes/gaps/dips in the yard, and help grass grow. So, while I was spreading the spent grains, I stepped in a hole. I wound up filling said hole with grains....and then all hell broke loose.

The hole I stepped in? Yeah, it was a bumblebee ground hive. Bees swarmed out of the hole and they were pissed off. We weren't sure what kind of bees they were but luckily, I know an entomologist and I pinged her quick. She ID'd them as bumbles and told me to just leave them be and they'd dig out and calm down. But they were buzzing around for several hours. It was not pretty.

There were no signs of them en masse yesterday or today so we figure they took care of themselves. Regardless, we don't necessarily want a ground hive in our yard so we'll have to see what we can do about that.

Anyway, I hope you've all had a lovely week and weekend. I think I'm going to call it a night. ::sigh::
