Moving is exhausting.

Currently, we still have all the stager's stuff in our house (so there's an extra couch, end tables, coffee table, side table, dining table & chairs, rugs, mirrors, and wall hanging stuff....that's the worst of it, actually)...but it's making my house choppy and I've been unable to just shove all the boxes into one space into logical stacks by size.

I'm kind of grumpy about it, actually. We have a buyer (hoooooray!) but they have a contingency on their offer of selling a house in Daly City. That's fine. The buyer is actually someone I've known for a few years now. I'm not particularly fussed about the fact that they want to sell the house in Daly City first. That's generally how things work outside of the Bay Area. But our realtor is kind of miffed about it because that's just not how it's done here. So, she doesn't want the stager to come get her stuff out because she's thinking the buyer is going to fall through and the we'll have to restage the house and she doesn't want to pay the stager twice. In the meantime, we have all this......shit in the way. Sorry. I'm grumpy about it. I want the stager's stuff gone. I want to organize the boxes so we can get an accurate box count so we can tell the moving company. Also, I just want space to move around and with that extra stuff in the front room, it's extremely difficult to work in there.

With the boys home this week, not much happened. The boys spent far too much time playing video games, which is fine, honestly. I spent time packing, as you do. Husband had to work. So.....yeah, nothing terribly exciting. And this week is Thanksgiving break. This is the first time we've had a full week off for Thanksgiving, not that I really care all that much. I'm perfectly fine with them having just Wednesday-Friday off but apparently that wasn't good enough. ::sigh:: All we're going to be doing is packing, homework (for Stormageddon), reading (both kids), and having Thanksgiving here. Woot woot. Oh, and visiting friends down toward Santa Cruz next weekend (Saturday, I think).

I don't even think I took many photos this week. Far too much packing...

I think last week I mentioned that Puppy had found a spot on the staging chair near the front window...well, here's proof. Unfortunately (for him) there are many boxes in the way so he can't quite get over there anymore.

We had our sewer lateral fixed this week, as well. Apparently it's a new(ish) thing in our county that when you sell a property, you have to have the sewer lateral inspected and repaired/replaced as needed. It's the sewer line from your house to the main sewer line. Generally speaking, it's not covered by your insurance and if it has something wrong, you're liable. Or so the mailers have been telling us for years. We finally got fed up last January and Husband called our homeowners insurance agent and asked what it would cost to add it. $25 per year (or around that)...and it covers tree roots and breaks and such in the line. So, we added it. And then we had the line checked because we're moving...and tree roots and such broke the line. What would have been a $9200 job cost us all of our deductible of $500. So, if you live in an area where you have a sewer lateral line, get it added to your insurance. Totally worth it.

They came on Friday and we were sure they were going to rip up from our deck to the back corner, including the sidewalk, and mess up the sprinklers....

No joke, that's what it looked like when they finished. They had to take out part of our deck (the step and a few of the boards) and then they dug downward to the line and had this nifty cable that pushed and pulled the old line out and put the new line in. And then they replaced the deck pieces. Aside from some dirt residue on the deck, it doesn't look like anything was done.

I also took Little Man to a movie on Friday afternoon. We went to the local Cineópolis to see Ghostbusters: Afterlife which was absolutely worth it. I may or may not have cried. Often. Also, if you see it, wait until the absolute end of the credits. Seriously. You won't be disappointed.

And that brings you all up to date with my boring life here in California. Lots of packing, no knitting, and that's about it. Exciting, right?

I hope you had a lovely week and weekend!

  1. Well it is great you have a buyer and I will keep sending positive thoughts to you that they sell their house lickety split. I am glad your dog found a comfy spot on the staging furniture! Well done on having insurance cover the sewer line repair. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
