Free Yarn and WIP Wednesday!

Happy Wednesday :) I, sadly, don't have any actual WIP photos to show you this week...I really need to get on that. But, there are things afoot and I need to share.

First of all, want to win some FREE YARN?! The Love of Knitting Magazine is running a contest between April 1, 2013 and October 1, 2013 and you can win FREE YARN! Unfortunately, it appears to only be open to residents of the United States and Canada (sorry, not my rules)...but you can win 20 YEARS worth of FREE YARN! Okay, it's $480/year for 20 years...but that's still a ton of yarn (and the yarn is through Patternworks). Second prize is a year's worth of yarn (again, $480 value). Third prize is a year's subscription to either Love of Knitting or Love of Crochet magazine.

Yes, I've actually looked into it. It's legitimate. You can follow this link or click on the link in my sidebar (where it says FREE YARN). It's not actually on the Love of Knitting website so this is the only way you're going to get into it :)

So, clicky and win free yarn. Who doesn't love that?!

Secondly, my latest WIPs are not on needles. They're on paper. I was up late last night with some graph paper and a pen and all the ideas that have been swirling. I'd love to show you what I'm doing but......I don't want anyone to steal my ideas. So, perhaps once I get around to swatching for some of these, I might be able to show you something.

I worked on trying to chart a scarf. Unfortunately, it didn't want to play nice with the graph paper so I think I'm going to have to play with it on the graph paper for a bit. I know what I want to do, I know how I want to do it, but I have no idea how to chart it on graph paper. I might need to find someone smarter than me...I hope not but we'll see.

I also did a rough drawing for a market bag. I still haven't decided on the stitch pattern for the sides but I have an idea of length, increases, and how to make the bottom kind of flat. We'll see how that goes. I need to figure out what yarn I want to use. I know cotton will just stretch out (with no bounce back) so I think I'm going to have to go with something with some sort of wool content, probably superwash for easy cleaning.

The last design I did a rough sketch of was a little.....hard. I drew a rough draft for the adult version of the Traveling Vines Socks. Unfortunately, as the pattern repeat is over eleven stitches, I either need to make socks over 66 or 77 stitches, as most adult socks are done with 64 or 72 stitches. The problem is that the ones with 77 stitches require a bit more math and the math made my brain hurt. I think I got it figured out but I'll have to check my math when I'm not so tired.

Sooooo, that's all that's going on around here. Little Man decided that Puppy's water dish looked like a potty and sat in it, did things in his diaper, and got up. Three times. He's also started taking his pants off at weird times and will tell me randomly that he needs a diaper (he doesn't do it all the time, though). I'm pretty sure he's screaming that it's time to start potty training. ::sigh:: I'm glad I put the plastic mattress protector on his bed a long time ago..and that we have a couple extra sets of sheets. And blankets.

We all got haircuts over the weekend, too. Husband and Little Man needed them quite badly. Little Man had hair in his eyes...and Husband was starting to look like a mad scientist. I also got a couple inches cut off my hair. I think my bangs and the rest of my hair are now the same length. I think when we go back to Wisconsin I'm going to get my highlights done (as the grey is starting to show and it's icky).

Anyway, I hope you're all having a lovely week. I hope to get some photos taken and posted. Everyone likes photos :)
