Future WIPs: The Fiber Edition

As many of you know, I not only knit...I spin, also. Now, to be fair, I'm not a great spinner. I enjoy doing it but I don't do it often enough...which is probably why I'm not all that good at it. But I still like it.

Wait, I'm going in circles.

Anyway, the point is that on Monday, Little Man and I took a trip down to San Jose so I could partake in someone's destash. Sadly, she can no longer spin (at least not with a traditional wheel - she could probably use an electric spinner as it doesn't involve legs)...so she was destashing her fiber (and some yarn, also, but I didn't partake in that).

I viewed everything online (thank you, Ravelry), and had made the initial decision that these two  would come home with me:

Miss Babs BFL in Crazy U - 8 oz total

I picked up these two braids of BFL from Miss Babs (the color is called Crazy U). I knew these were going to come home, even before I felt them with my hands.

But then, not unexpectedly, I started feeling all the other things...and all these came home:

Australian Finn & Suffolk - 7 oz.

This still has quite a bit of lanolin in it and it's quite sticky...but I like it. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it but that's not the point right now.

AVFKW Merino/Silk in Off The Grid - 4 oz total

Two hanks of 50/50 Merino/Silk from A Verb for Keeping Warm. Now, I can go over to Verb any time I want...but I didn't have to :)

AVFKW Merino/Silk in Supernova - 2 oz

I also picked up this and just couldn't leave it...I'm considering plying it with the two yellow ones. Basically, spin each hank as singles (2 oz. on each bobbin), then ply them together as a three-ply. We'll see. I might change my mind :)

BMFA BFL in My Blue Heaven - 8.25 oz

What can I say? I'm a sucker for BFL. And this was a HUGE hank from Blue Moon Fiber Arts.

Faerie Mountain Fibers Crazy Batt - 2 oz

This was an interesting one. It's a Crazy Batt from Faerie Mountain Fibers and may contain the following: various wools including superwash, alpaca, mohair locks, silk, sari silk, silk noils, wool nepps, bamboo, firestar/angelina, nylon, or yarn. I'm pretty sure this one has either firestar or angelina in it (that's the shiny stuff that you can see)...otherwise, no clue. I saw these at Stitches West last February and I was tempted...but I didn't get any. Now I have some to test out :)

So.....I'm calling these Future WIPs because they're still in their raw form of unspun fiber. Eventually I will spin these and then I can turn them into WIPs of the knitted variety.

Also, I tried chain plying again the other day and it didn't go well. Again. I think I'm going to take someone else's suggestion of using crap yarn to learn the motions and then I don't go ruining my handspun. It sounds like a good idea. Perhaps a trip to JoAnn's is in order for today :)

Anyway, I'm linking up with Tami today :)

Perhaps next week I'll talk about my knitting WIPs (there are less than a handful at this point)...we'll see how that goes :)
