14. Cowl for Miss Sylvie: started 18 January 2019

Most of my work over the last week has been on the Cowl for Miss Sylvie. I'm in the home stretch. I have maybe three rounds left, which is delightful because I might have it finished and blocked before the end of spring break (so, you know, by the end of next week)...and then I can work on other things.

Buuuut, that's not all I worked on. I pulled out my Campfire Socks. They were supposed to be quick, squishy house socks in a DK weight yarn. And then we all laughed. I finished the heel flap, turn, and gusset decreases on the first sock. I'm not sure they're going to fit me, though. They stretch wonderfully but I have a feeling they're going to be destined for Little Man's feet. Oh well.

But that's it, I swear!

OMGLSGWTFBBQ Lists

Challenges (this is new for 2019)
1. Knit 2 granny squares a month (average) until I'm out of yarn (for the Granny Square Blanket in my WIP list above - I started with four cakes, I've finished two and started the third...I bought a fifth, though, for more choices): It's April. I'm on my 7th square, which is right on track for April...but I've been on that 7th square for awhile now. Oops.
2. Knit 1 dishcloth a month (average): So I'm super behind. I have not knit one yet....not a single one. I might need to get on this for April, especially as it appears I'm low on dishcloths and washcloths for the shower. Oops.

Since this was the first week of spring break (we get two - don't even get me started on that), we tried to get out and about as often as possible....but the weather was somewhat uncooperative. Husband worked from home all week but not because it was spring break. That's a whole other ball of wax.

Last Sunday, I took the boys to the park. Twice. I wish I were joking. It was a wonderful day and we tried to gather some friends....no one was available at first but friends were available later, so we went back.

Little Man found a shell on our walk to the park. There were several along our walk, and I was kind of surprised because we are inland, though our walk was right along the Bay Trail...but I didn't expect to see fully-intact shells along the way (multiple - not just this one).

It appears that Little Man is the Rolly Polly Whisperer. They just love him.

I have no idea what my crazy children were doing but this was on our way home from the park. I think Little Man said they were being "cavemen," not that he has a clue what that's about.

Unfortunately, being the first big park trip of the season, I didn't even think about the sunscreen.....wound up with a sunburn on my legs, arms, and face (not bad - just a little red). I took care of it immediately when we got home and haven't had any long-lasting issues.

Monday was spent at home (mostly), as the weather was less than cooperative. ::sigh:: I did take the boys to the library. We had some books that were due this week and we needed to get out of the house.

Of course, with the weather being uncooperative, a lot of families had the same idea. The place was packed. But we picked up a few books, returned our other ones, played a little, and called it good.

On Wednesday, we finally had a proper park playdate with friends. We went to a park that's a bit further away, nestled in a valley (cell reception is crap). The weather was a little sprinkley but other than that, it was fine.

We have been to this park a few times. There are a few hiking trails around the park that go up into the hills/mountains. Little Man and I have gone with Cub Scouts a couple times. There's an epic tree that is perfect for climbing....if you can get onto it. Stormageddon needed a little help but Little Man squirreled right up. Damn monkey.

Thursday, Little Man's Lego Star Wars sets had an epic battle. Absolutely epic. He pulled down all his sets, including several of the Advent Calendar sets and smaller micro-sets.

You can't see it in this photo but where I was standing to take the photo, he had his Porg, BB8, Yoda's hut, and a bunch of smaller pieces. I don't even know what all he did but nothing was broken so that's a win.

By the time yesterday rolled around, we were a bit.....well, we were kind of over spring break but we have another week. We went to a completely new-to-us park, which was  really nice (it's in a new development area), the boys had fun, and then Little Man had a playdate. Stormageddon was so sad to leave his brother. He didn't wan't to leave and cried most of the way home.

But, now it's Sunday again and we have another week of spring break ahead of us.

In addition to all that, I've been looking for jobs. I either need something that allows me to work flexibly from home (so I can pick up the boys from school and have breaks with them and so on) or that is willing to pay me so much that we can afford to do camps during breaks and after-school care. I think it's a pretty tall order but we'll see.

Anyway, I hope you've had a lovely week and weekend :)

  1. Two weeks of spring break? Gads! I feel for you. How about roller/ice skating? Do you have a dollar movie theater? We have one that always has a kids show running which makes it nice for breaks. How about a play doh day? Have you checked Pinterest for 'experiments" the boys could do with kitchen ingredients? Good luck, Renee.

  2. Wow, two week spring break, that's a long time to entertain two active boys! (But man, they're adorable.) Sending you some strength for next week and luck for the job search.

  3. You do make me smile with you ‘move along’ comments. An epic Star Wars battle sounds fun, much more fun with the Lego pieces than playing on a computer game. Back in the 70s I had Playmobil sets I did battles with. Have a lovely week.
