I finished up a dishcloth the other day. Nothing spectacular. I used up some scrap Lion Brand Cotton Ease. I haven't even bothered to take a photo.

I also frogged the Clapotis. I've seen one IRL version of it and I liked it...but knitting it was not my jam and I haven't worked on it in ages and it was kind of in time-out so I frogged it. I'm okay with that.

13. Prototype Something Something Raindrops: started 11 April 2019
14. Dishcloth: started 16 July 2019

Because of who I am as a person, I started another dishcloth when I finished the first one. I have a bag of scrap cotton (mostly Cotton Ease) and I'm just making dishcloths from it. I have a full skein of Cotton Ease in there as well but I'm going to use that last. I plan to use up the scraps first, which seems to be working pretty well, actually.

Aside from starting a new dishcloth, I worked on several projects this week. I pulled out the Returning Shawl and looked at my next set of directions....and then started wafting about whether I wanted it to be three colors (as per the pattern), two colors, or just leave it as a solid color and I'm back to square one with that. I may just make it one color. The other issue I had was that I read the directions for the next section and I couldn't wrap my brain around what it wanted me to do. So, it's back in time-out while I figure out what I want to do....again (not that it was in time-out before exactly but I haven't worked on it in awhile).

But for things I actually worked on....I worked on a new granny square, having finished the last one I was working on. That's exciting.

I pulled out the University of Wisconsin Ski Hat and actually worked on it. Granted, I only worked three rounds of colorwork but it was three rounds of colorwork. I had to look up how to catch long floats again, and I'm still having trouble...not with the floats themselves but with my two yarns getting tangled. It's not a big deal as long as I know which yarn lies where (top or bottom) but I've had to untangle them a couple times. I'm also having trouble reading the actual chart. It's on 8.5"x14" paper, which is fine but it's tiny and hard to read...so I've been pondering how to go about it and, honestly, I've been writing out every round in shorthand. I may take it to Office Depot or someplace and enlarge it so I can read it better. Maybe even color it in or something. But I worked on it!

And because why not, I pulled out my Abracadabra Socks and worked a few rounds on those, too! I used a contrast color for the cuff and heel (and I will for the toe) and now I've reattached the main color and I'm working on the gusset decreases.

And and AND, I worked on my Ewetopia Stripey Socks. I'm still working on the foot of the first one. It's just slowish going. I'm using the Addi FlexiFlips for those. I'm undecided whether I like them or not. They're not terrible but I think I may still prefer my long circulars instead.

I even worked a couple rounds on the prototype cowl. I'm in the third section of the first pattern repeat and I think it's going to be three or four pattern repeats...maaayyyybe just two but we'll see how deep it is when I get there. Two may be plenty. I don't know.

In addition to all the knitting this week, I also pulled out Viktor and did some actual spinning. I've done very little spinning for Tour de Fleece. I didn't have any hard-set plans either. So, I finished up the first bobbin that I had started awhile ago of the multi-colored merino top and I've started the second one. So that's delightful.

So, you know, holy crap I did a lot this week. Who knew?!

California life is....well, it's summer in California. I took the boys to the park a couple of times. One of the days we walked, which means we passed our usual haunts along the way. One of the neighborhood kitties came out for pets. Her name is Jade and she's a tuxedo kitty. She's usually pretty agreeable to come for pets. Her brother, Bentley, is still shy. In the four years we've been walking to and from school for Little Man, he's only come down for pets less than a handful of times, and all of them within the last six months. But Jade....she likes pets.

On Monday, our pilot friend was here and she agreed to watch the boys for a hot minute so Husband and I could have a date by ourselves. Stormageddon decided he wanted to dress up.

This was right after we left. He pulled out his entire costume, except for the belt that he couldn't find.

Later in the week, I took Little Man out and about to buy some birthday presents. While we were out, he found a squeezy narwhal at Target. Apparently the school mascot is a narwhal....it was kind of fitting as a few of the moms and I were having a conversation about narwhal costumes for the ice cream social at the beginning of the school year.

Little Man just kind of shook his head at me (and probably rolled his eyes...he's getting really good at that). He's far too cool at almost 9 years old. ::sigh::

The only other "major" thing that happened was a couple of doctor appointments for me and our roommate getting a new fancy job (he starts in August). We celebrated.

This was a total made-up concoction on my part. I was eating a popsicle and I thought it might go well with some rum...so, I put a whole popsicle and the remaining part of the one I was eating into a glass, filled it to about the halfway point with rum, and then filled it was 7-up the rest of the way. The popsicles stayed on the bottom. It wasn't terrible...maybe less rum and more 7up next time...but probably not a next time.

I hope you're all having a lovely week and weekend.

  3. So many projects worked on this week, soon there’ll no doubt be a flurry of finished objects. I really must have a go at a dish cloth, I procrastinate about making them but haven’t had a go yet.
