Year the TENTH: Self-Imposed Year of Projects - What time is it?! (It's Syttende Mai Time!) (Update #20)

Happy Sunday! Today is May 16th so it's actually sekstende mai.....syttende mai is actually tomorrow. But what is Syttende Mai?

Norwegian Constitution Day. It's a national holiday in Norway and because I grew up in a town filled with Norwegian immigrants, it became a celebration of my hometown heritage. My hometown actually hosts the largest Syttende Mai celebration outside of Norway. And it's this weekend. And I'm missing home.

But, that's not why we're here....we're here because it's Sunday and that means Self-Imposed Year of Projects time!

It's been one of those weeks here in California. I felt like there were errands that needed to be done omgrightnao this week so I've been feeling rushed and a bit out of sorts. Probably why I didn't get a lot of knitting done.

We have had my car for over a year. It still does not have license plates on it. We have been going around and around and around. All the paperwork has been sent in (verification form, smog certificate, application).....then we get a letter saying they need the title....queue months of going back and forth with the lien holder to get the title to the correct place, only for the DMV to lose it and then the lien holder dragging their heels to send another one in because of a $10 fee that they supposedly waived twice but nothing got moving until I sent in the damn fee.....and now the DMV is telling us we need to re-do everything because they have no record of it.

Queue major frustration.

Husband contacted our local senator's office (state, not federal) because right on their website it says that if a constituent is having an issue with a government office or facility, to contact them and they can have someone help us sort it out. So.....that's what we did.

Friday, I sent off our paperwork, again, to a specific person at the DMV's main office in Sacramento, gave the person in the senator's office the tracking number to send to her contact at the DMV (to whom this paperwork is heading), and Jesus Tapdancing Christ, this had better get me my damn license plates!

So. Frustrating.

Aside from that, the boys had a fairly regular week of school, usual meetings, homework, and extra meetings with friends. We also sprung for an in-person playdate on Friday. The adults in the house are vaccinated, as are the adults in our house, so they had masks on and played for over two hours and they needed it so badly. Stormageddon did manage to scrape up his knee pretty good but he'll be okay. We cleaned him up and bandaged him and all was well. They chased each other, played with (empty) Nerf guns, played with the dog (they have a Shiba Inu), and just had time being normal kids.

Stormageddon has asked a couple times this week if he could do a drawing tutorial. This is kind of a big deal. When Stormageddon entered TK last year, he was still very resistant to holding anything in a pencil-shape and using it to color or draw or write or even scribble. We eventually had him evaluated for occupational therapy services and he has come so so far with his writing. So, when he asked to watch some "how to draw ____" tutorials so he could draw things he wanted to draw, I was on it. He asked me to find him one for how to draw a Bokoblin (from Zelda). This was his result and it's pretty good.

Little Man didn't want to be left out of the fold, though. He drew the dog from Duck Hunt. I think that's what he said it was from. He drew it on his own and showed us. Ignore his goofy face ::sigh:: I don't know what I'm going to do with that kid.

Stormageddon has also had a drawing component in PE (because they can). I think this was his version of an ice cream cone in a dish type thing. I know ice cream was involved. He's gotten a lot better about his fine motor movements. He also started Adaptive PE for some of his gross motor skills and he's been showing those off, as well.

Other than that, I can't say a whole lot has been happening. I think I'm going to attempt to dye something of Husband's a dark brown for his Mandolorian costume. We'll see how that goes. The problem is that it came in a dark blue...and bleach did nothing. I may have to soak it in bleach & water and then dye it. I really don't know what's going to happen. Something?

I hope you've had a lovely week and weekend!

  1. Re: the plates: what a nightmare! I would be super annoyed if I couldn't use my car because motor vehicles couldn't get it together. I mean, license plates are KINDA a big deal for operating a vehicle legally.

Hope you get some traction with this issue!!

  2. The drawings both your boys made are so great!! What a horrible drag about the car licence. A year? Jesus tap-dancing Christ indeed! Hope it sorts out very very soon.

  3. That is a crazy hassle. I love how you found that condition on the website. Glad the boys had some friends time.
