Year the TENTH: Self-Imposed Year of Projects - Memorial Day Weekend (Update #22)

Happy Sunday! I'm confused about what day it is. Again. I mean, I know I shouldn't be confused because, seriously, there's a calendar on my phone that tells me the day, date, and time every time I look at it....but, here we are.

Let's get going. I should also note that all links will take you to Ravelry. If Ravelry is not a safe place for you, do not click the links. I'm working on an alternative right now in my head but so far, nothing has come up. So, we'll see. If you want to know more about something and Ravelry isn't safe, let me know in the comments and I'll see what I can do :)

13. Flax for Stormageddon: started 29 April 2021

I only worked on the Flax sweater for Stormageddon this week. I'm on my second stripe of what will likely be three. So, here's my "vision" for the Flax sweater. It's a top-down raglan. I started off in the Grecian blue color, which is a bright, almost royal blue...but it's slightly tonal. I did that until after I split for the sleeves. Then I added in a couple inches of the Pewter grey (maybe 10-12 rounds...I should look so I can make the other two stripes the same number of rounds) followed by maybe an inch of the blue again, and I started the Milk Chocolate brown. I'll do that for the same number of rounds as the grey, then the same number of rounds of the blue as before, then another section of grey. Hopefully that will get me far enough to be able to just work til the end. We'll see how it goes. I have three skeins of each color, so it shouldn't be an issue other than mixed dyelots. ::sigh:: I bought the yarn with another sweater in mind for Stormageddon and wound up not doing it but in order to do it properly, I might need more of the yarn so I just went ahead and bought more. But different dyelots. So hopefully I won't have to get into it but if I do, so be it.

But that was seriously all I worked on this past week. Well, wait, no...I take that back. I did work on my Rose City Rollers a little bit on Wednesday at the park. I'm almost ready for the toe decreases on the second sock so I think I'll probably finish that sock and then finish the other and call it good. They will be mismatched and I just don't care.

I feel like things were relatively quiet this week for some reason. Which isn't to say that nothing happened but, really, we didn't do much.

On Wednesday, I took the boys to the park. We haven't been to the park in.....well, it's been quite awhile. Like a year, at least. Everyone was masked and being proper...or as proper as kids can be when they're with their friends that they've not seen in person for months (if not a year).

Stormageddon was excited to see some of his friends, too. There are a couple of kids in Little Man's grade that have siblings that are in Stormageddon's so everyone was excited.

There was this lovely climbing tree at the park we went to. So, here are three of the boys....only one of them is mine. And yes, I was standing on the ground, looking up at the boys.

It was nice to get out, honestly. I did some knitting at the park, talked to parents I've not seen for more than a minute in over a year, and it was just a nice time. The funny part is that the kids set it up. One of them said to the entire 4th grade, "hey, let's go do this thing," and the kids came to their parents and said, "hey, I want to do this thing," and we did the thing.

Also, Little Man caught a lizard today (see photo below) and a snake yesterday (no photo). Stormageddon found the snake but Little Man was the one that caught it.

Tomorrow is Memorial Day. We have no real plans other than eating food, which is probably a good thing. Tomorrow is a day to not have plans, really. This next week is state testing for Little Man and he's kind of a hot mess about it. He'll be fine but he's definitely stressing about it. I'm hoping to start training for a job this week but we'll see how things go. Any excuse to hang out with all the puppies.

I hope you've had a lovely week and weekend.

  1. I'm with you with being confused by what day it is. Holiday weekends always get me turned around these days.

I love that all the kids met at the park! My kids have had a couple park playdates, and they are always great. In fact, I will likely get "talked into" taking my son to the park with his friends after school today,

  2. How excellent that the kids took initiative to create a class event. Congrats to the parents for going. I'm looking forward to seeing your son's sweater when it's finished.

  3. Yay for kids organizing 'doing the thing!'. It is weird to have things going back to normal - I am definitely taking it in small steps.
