I'm still slowly weaving in ends here and there on the Flax sweater. I had a mishap while weaving in ends where I managed to catch hold of a stitch on the other side of the arm and weave the end through that and, of course, I didn't notice until I had woven three ends in and had to undo all of them to find the culprit. ::sigh:: But, I fixed that part and then there was this long strand of the yarn and I tried to wriggle it back in but it wasn't having it. I finally got fed up, grabbed a crochet hook, pulled it through, and wove that in, too. It'll be fine.

But there are so. many. ends.

I worked on a few things here and there this past week. My Rose City Zombies continue to grow. I've got a few rounds before the toe. I need to try them on again to double-check. But they're close to the toe for the first sock. I have a "usual" number of rounds for socks but sometimes, it doesn't work out that way. What I usually do is start checking around 65 rounds because my "usual" number is 72 rounds. My Vanilla Socks were 80 rounds but it's usually 72 rounds....but I don't know if these are going to be that. I still had a good inch to go when I was at 65 rounds so these might be a few more rounds. I just want to make sure the second one is done the same way.

I also worked on the cuff of the Vanilla Sock. It's slow-going due to the dark yarn and the fuzzy halo around the single-spun sock yarn. I have to have good, natural lighting to work on them, which is fine but it means my working time is limited by good lighting hours.

And, because I am who I am....I started a pair of mittens. To be fair, I promised my step-grandma that I would knit her mittens so I wound the yarn the other day and started the mittens. I've got the thumb of the first one left and then I'll start the second ones. What I really love about these mittens is that they knit up fairly quickly. Stormageddon is also getting a pair (in the same blue yarn from his Flax sweater - I asked, that's what he wanted). I'll likely start his after I finish the ones for my grandma. I did have a mishap with these, too. After you've done the thumb stitches and you have them on a holder, you add a stitch and then start working around in stockinette, which is fine and I've made these before without issue. This time around, when I tugged on the yarn to snug up the gap, I broke the yarn. ::sigh:: I tinked back one needle's worth of stitches (so, I think that was 12 or so), rejoined my yarn, and carried on my way. It's fine. The yarn is pretty toothy but it's also kind of like handspun so I'm not surprised. I didn't have any issue the second go, therefore it's fine.

This was while I was in the midst of the thumb increase section. I'm well beyond that now. But the color is delightful.

Here in California, things are continuing much the same way. The boys go to school, I do things at home and around the area (like grocery shopping), wash, rinse, repeat. Oh, speaking of that, I also do a lot of laundry. ::sigh::

I spent some time last week cleaning Stormageddon's room. His desk was a hot mess and he had a ton of paperwork from last school year. I went through all the papers and threw out a bunch of things he no longer needs and/or won't use and/or won't miss. I kept enough of his papers that he didn't notice. It was so nice to get rid of some of that stuff. He still has too much stuff but we'll deal with that when we need to.

We sold a couple of furniture pieces, which is part of why his room was a hot mess. They were bookshelf-like pieces with doors on the top and bottom. We got them from Ikea when we first moved into the house in 2013. They served their purpose and we no longer need them...but it means everything that was in them is now scattered about.

His room was such a hot mess that he was doing some of his math with my laptop in our bedroom because he couldn't work at his desk. ::sigh::

Little Man had an interesting weekend. He was in a maker mood. He made a caprice salad for Husband on Saturday (cucumbers & tomatoes were picked, cleaned, and cut by him; Husband added the mozzarella balls and some Italian dressing). He also wanted to bake an apple pie or cobbler or crumble or something. So, he and I did that but it didn't work out too well and we ended up with a soup-like apple thing and it went perfectly with vanilla ice cream but not necessarily good to eat on your own. It looked really good and the taste is good...but just not necessarily a "pie" form. I suppose that's what you get for not using a recipe.

Like I said, not a whole lot happened this week. The boys have off from school on Thursday & Friday this week so I'm thinking about taking them to the beach. It sounds good in my head but I worry that it's going to be too cold over there. We'll see, I guess. Worst case is that we find a place to have lunch and call it good.

I hope you've had a lovely week and weekend!

  2. I love the purple color for your Grandma's mitts!!
My best laid plans with the kids being back at school has also been to clean their room. However, the task is SO daunting that I run screaming the other way when I open their doors. Good luck!!

  3. I am always impressed with how much you get done craftwise with your busy life and two school aged boys. I remember 'cleaning' my children's rooms - It is funny now that as adults they are both much tidier than me!
