WIPs (Works-in-Progress) *these are carried over year after year, as needed*

8. Herbivore: started 15 November 2018
9. Linen Stitch Scarf: started 2 June 2020
10.
Vanilla Socks: started 9 August 2020
11. Sand Drift Blanket: started 17 January 2021
12. Vanilla Socks: started 12 December 2021

As predicted, I started another pair of socks this past week. I assessed what I had for our drive to Wisconsin and it looks like I have the Granny Square Blanket and the Herbivore shawl left so I started the pair of socks.

The Granny Square Blanket is modular so I'm only working on one block at a time. It's not like I have a huge blanket project coming along with me. I just have the two (admittedly huge) balls of yarn to work from and I'll stack the squares as I finish them. The rest of the blanket is packed in a space saver bag somewhere. I spent some time working on a square this week while Husband and I watched The Witcher. I thought it was a good time work on those. And I didn't want to try working on the Herbivore shawl in the dark...

At this point, Herbivore is just growing. I'm probably going to work until I run out of yarn, which was kind of the point. Because the rows take forever, it's not something I can really pick up and set down. I mean, I can, but I probably shouldn't.

And then I started the socks. The socks are out of a Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks That Rock base. I got the yarn from Carrie Sullivan a few years ago, no ball band but we both knew it was STR...it's likely the Mediumweight but it might be the Lightweight. No idea of the colorway either. I just know it's going to pool and I'm okay with mismatched socks that are highly variegated.

No photos though, because I'm kind of lazy that way.

So, as I mentioned before, it's our last Sunday in California. The weather this past week has been kind of crappy. A lot of rain and wind early in the week. It seems to have calmed down for now. The orange tree dropped so many oranges.

The boys had their last day of school here on Friday. There were many tears, of course. The boys have both hit their....well, they are both at that point where it's really setting in that we're leaving. Puppy was picked up on Wednesday afternoon, which didn't help with that feeling. Stormageddon spent a good half hour in my lap on Friday, bawling. Little Man had the same thing happen on Thursday. It was just a rough week for the boys. It's even rougher now because we pulled things out of their room and washed their carpets. Stormageddon's bed is packed up (the box spring folds in half and goes inside the case and the frame comes apart really easily), Little Man's mattress is on the floor in the living room, all the boxes were moved out of bedrooms....it's a hot crazy mess around here.

Next Friday we hope to be in Wisconsin. We'll see how that goes. If the weather cooperates, we should be fine. With the date change, I'm still not sure which route we're taking. We could take the most direct route, along I-80, or we might still go south through Arizona and New Mexico. We'll figure it out.

In the meantime, we have some photos from this week. Stormageddon's class had a party on Friday and the kids made Gingerbread houses. Little Man did the same thing at his age. Here was Stormageddon's house (before we ate it).

I also got a photo with two of my mom friends at pickup on Friday. The woman on the left I've known since Little Man was in preschool (her daughter is a year younger) and the woman in the middle I've known since Little Man was in kindergarten. They're both delightful and I'm going to miss them!

With Little Man having such a rough time, he was having trouble falling asleep the other night. He came in with us and snuggled for a bit and....well, he fell asleep. I did not want to wake him but my arm was falling asleep. Poor kid. I love that he still comes in and does this once in awhile.

Anyway, I hope you've had a lovely week and weekend! Next week's post will likely not have photos but we'll see how things go. We should definitely be in Wisconsin by then. I hope.

  1. Best wishes in Wisconsin. I missed why the move but hope all is well. It will certainly be a big change, especially moving in the winter. But I hope the boys grow to love the seasons of Wisconsin. Wishing you a safe drive especially since the highways will be filled with holiday travelers.
