16. Bonbon 2: started 15 October 2022

I finished the first foot and leg of Bonbon (and it's stuffed). I did buy another bag of stuffing because I'm not going to have nearly enough (which I already knew). And knowing that I have at least five toys to make means I can use the stuffing. I wound up buying a bigger bag, hoping it will entice me to actually knit the toys!

I also worked a couple rounds on the new hat while I was down in my craft room earlier this week. Nothing major or extravagant.

The Vanilla Socks are growing. I'm more than halfway through the foot, having knit at least 12 rounds today. If I keep going at this rate, I may actually have them finished in a timely manner. Or we can all just laugh about it when things don't go the way I intend them to go.

I don't know that I did any other knitting (though I looked through some things while in the craft room).....that's fine. I was busy doing other things.

I also heard back from the designer of my UW Ski Hat and she's going to search her old records to see if she can find the pattern page that the recliner destroyed. She's been out of the game for a decade now so she may not wind up finding it, which is fine. I can fake the crown and do something different on the edge of the hat (it's supposed to be a braid but I could do an i-cord edge instead, for example).

We were busy around here this week. Last weekend I mentioned that Husband went up north to pick up some telephone poles from a friends' family farm and they brought them back so we could build a bridge across the creek. Well......the bridge is built. We have five or six telephone poles across, along with some 4x4s on the ends and some under the poles for leveling purposes. Then we used some relcaimed deck boards to run across for stability. It's not the prettiest thing but it's 60" across and holds the weight of the tractor.

I did have to replace three of the cross boards because they cracked. That's the price you pay for using recycled materials I suppose. But it does what we need it to do. We're still doing some work around it because the dirt gets compacted as the tractor goes over it so we need to keep adding dirt, which isn't a big deal.

Once we had the bridge in working order, Husband mowed and tilled the path that has been there for several weeks. It goes down to our neighbor's property and connects to their path. We also took out a tree that had fallen over. That means I got to play with the chainsaw again.

After clearing that out, Husband mowed more path closer to the creek and tilled it, as well. The plan was that we were going to move my beehives over there. With the weather being above freezing and the ground still soft enough, we worked on that. So he got everything tilled up late this week and I worked on leveling the space, putting down the pavers for the hives to sit (and leveling them), digging out where the wooden frame sits (4'x6'), leveling the wooden frame and bolting the pieces together, adding dirt/mud around the frame to keep it in place, and adding pea gravel to the space. It took me a few hours on Friday to do all that and my body dearly paid for it yesterday and today. I'm still pretty sore, mostly from the digging of the mud. And it was muddy. But, it's done.

In short, our big projects were the bridge and the beehive space, as well as mowing/tilling the path on that side of the creek. Good times.

Yesterday, Husband's best friend and another friend of his and I went to a cider tasting event in my hometown. I ran into very few people I knew or that knew me, which was oddly calming. I didn't feel like I was forced to behave a certain way because of antiquated opinions of me, stemming from my grandparents' position in town (they were business owners and everyone in town knew them). I did run into a cousin, though, which is always a delight. Her paternal grandfather and my paternal grandmother were siblings, so we share a set of great-grandparents. And she's such a wee thing yet. I want to say she's like 13 years younger than I am. But we had all the cider and it was a delightful time.

There hasn't been much else going on. I keep hoping this week is going to be quiet but I know it's not. We have things going on for Little Man this week, specifically his IEP review meeting and he has a doctor appointment (he's not sick, just a routine check-up every five years). Oh, and the boys have off school Thursday and Friday for some unknown reason. ::sigh:: At least I'm not building a bridge this week!

I hope you've had a lovely week and weekend!
