Stash Enhancement: Before Stitches...

Hello and happy Saturday! I'm several weeks late with this post. It is, after all, March...and the first of my stash enhancements happened in January. I think. I don't know. I'm just getting them uploaded to Ravelry, even though I took the photos in February, and they've been hanging out in my stash a bit longer than that.

Anyway, these are my "Pre-Stitches" enhancements. Behold, my stash grew...

I'm 98% sure this is a skein of Lorna's Laces Solemate. If it's not Solemate, it's probably Shepherd Sock but I'm pretty sure it's Solemate. Anyway, the color is Glasgow (as in Scotland) and it called to me. This actually came home in December of 2017 but life got in the way, as it often does. So, just a few months late....

This is a gigantic cone of Artfibers Anime, undyed. The cone plus yarn is about 517g, and cones from Artfibers run about 33.5g so I have about 1200 yds of this (in addition to another 340 yds on another cone). I picked this up in a destash. I have plans to dye this...maybe. We'll see how things go.

I already have a skein of this but I picked up another skein of Sunshine Yarns Classic Sock in Mockingjay. I might be able to make something a bit more substantial now that I have two skeins.

Hiwassee Creek Dyeworks is a new-to-me yarn and, again, I picked this one up in a destash. The colorway is Uprising at the Capital on their Summit Sock self-stripe base.

I picked up this skein of Canon Hand Dyes Charles Sock Self-Stripe already wound into a ball (I'll probably rewind it at some point), with the ball band missing. The colorway is Happy Hunger Games.

This last skein is Berry Colorful Yarnings (BCY) Primary Fingering in Prim. Are you seeing a trend? The last four skeins I picked up from the same destash, all of them Hunger Games related. I may or may not have a problem.


In addition to the yarn, I also received my processed fiber from Morro Fleece Works. If you don't remember, I had a full merino fleece and a full alpaca fleece that needed processing. I attempted to do some of the cleaning myself but, really, it's just a pain in the ass and easier to pay someone else to do it. So, I shipped both fleeces off and a few months later, they were finished.

These are my chocolate brown alpaca pin roving. I started out with about 30 oz of raw fiber. I lost about 7 oz in the processing and wound up with an 11 oz and a 12 oz bundle of pin roving.

My merino fleece started out around 5 lbs and I don't know for sure how much I pulled out to attempt to process on my own. I could go weigh it but I'm just not feeling it. Regardless, I wound up with four balls: 3-8 oz and a 4 oz, for a total of 28 oz, which isn't even 2 lbs of fiber. It's still quite a bit to spin so I'm not terribly fussed about it. Well, maybe a little. I have a feeling that my memory is failing me and I actually have another four bags of fiber, which would make a lot more sense. Either way, I have a lot of natural fiber to spin.

Stash Enhancement: Things just keep on coming in...

I keep trying to be good.....and then things happen and then the next thing you know, I have packages arriving at my house with yarn and I don't even know where they all came from or how I got them and my fingers did the buying and.....



Well, let's just see what new stash has arrived at my house already!

In my quest for all things Hunger Games, I got ahold of one of these:

This is a skein of Lorna's Laces Solemate in the "Catching Fire" colorway (November 2013). I'm a little curious about this one as it's a 55% superwash merino, 30% rayon, and 15% nylon blend. I've heard it will hold up well for socks. We shall see.

I also participated in a trade with someone wherein I received this (and they got a skein of Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks That Rock from me). This is a skein of Vesper Sock from Knitterly Things in the "Love Stinks (Yeah Yeah)" colorway. I'm suddenly reminded of "The Wedding Singer" and Adam Sandler singing this song.

And lastly, I ordered a skein of Slash Self-Striping from Mudpunch in the "Wet Blanket" colorway. She was having an "I got a nasty email" sale that I caught via Instagram and I picked this up. I've been eyeing things for months and finally pulled the trigger.




So, all that happened. I might have more coming. I don't remember. Also, my fabric order arrived from Spoonflower but as I still don't have a working washing machine, I can't wash it and send it off to Lindsey at Erin Lane Bags. So, once that's sorted out, I'm having Lindsey make some project bags for me. Woo.

Stash Enhancement: The Hunger Games Edition

If you stopped by on Monday, you may have read that my yarn diet went straight down the toilet. Between Purlescence Yarns closing later this month and my sudden need for all things Hunger Games....well, I'm kind of screwed.

So, let's get going on my latest stash acquisitions.

Brazen Stitchery Harmony Sock in Team Peeta. I found this while doing a Hunger Games search on Etsy...because I have an unhealthy obsession. I'm so so SO late to the Hunger Games party. I didn't actually even think about reading it until after I kept catching glimpses of the movie when Husband was home sick and watching it. And then the obsession began. Hence, all these yarny goodnesses :)


The next three are from Lorna's Laces.

Lorna's Laces Sport Multi in the Catching Fire colorway. This was a limited edition colorway done in November 2013, when Hunger Games: Catching Fire came out in theaters. I found these in a destash because that's the only way to get them now. I had hoped for the Shepherd Sock but four skeins of the Sport Multi will suffice :)

Lorna's Laces Worsted Multi in the Tribute colorway. This, too, was a limited edition colorway done in May 2012, for the release of the Hunger Games in theaters. Again, these were found in a destash...actually, the same destash as the Sport Multi.

Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock, also in the Tribute colorway. I found this one first, actually, and then I started wondering if there were other ones I needed to get my hands on. That led me on the quest of Lorna's Laces acquisition...and there are no Mockingjay colorways that I can find. But, I'm good.



Do I have any idea what I'm going to make out of any of these? Noooooooope. Not a clue. I entertained the thought of a shawl of some sort for me out of either the sport or the worsted and, obviously, socks for the sock yarn....but who knows if/when that will happen. My yarn is well beyond SABLE at this point. Oh well.

Stash Enhancement: I'm losing another yarn store....buy all the things (PART 2)!

Didn't I already post about this? Hahahaha! Noooooope! This is the second part of my BUY ALL THE THINGS because I'm losing another LYS.

Soooooo.....I went back on Tuesday this past week because Viktor needed some attention. After Viktor had some attention (in the form of tightening some things, adjusting some things, and suggestions for replacements of other things), I found more things that wanted to come home...oops. Sorry, so not sorry.

Two more skeins of American Worsted from MJ Yarns. The top is Soul Fissure (which, really, is just black) and the bottom is Intrigue (and it's much brighter than the photo is showing - think a very bright Hunter Orange).

A skein of Mountain Colors Crazyfoot in Mountain Tango (again, brighter than what the photo is showing).

About 8 oz of natural Shetland (no specific brand), which will probably grow up into something fabulous. I don't know. I don't think I've ever spun Shetland before. I might hate it. I doubt it. Then again, the Bombyx blend from TdF was absolute hell to spin because I was so so so SO allergic to it (but I can rub it all over my face now that it's in yarn form - weird!). We'll see.

About 4 oz of Dream Merino Roving from MJ Yarns in Forest Elf (it's an 80/20 Merino/Tussah blend). It spoke to me last time I was in and this time, it decided to come home with me. WOO!

The last lonely 10 oz bump of Zombie BBQ from Lorna's Laces came home, also. Soooo, I have 30 oz of this, which translates to about 850 g...which, if I spin it decently, I could wind up with 3200 yds of finger weight yarn...or 1600 yds of worsted...or.........yeah. We'll see what happens.

This little kit spoke to me. It's from Lorna's Laces, also. The color combination is called Snare Drum, which speaks to my inner-drummer-of-yore. I wish there had been a second one. Buuuuut, one will do. It's 525 yds of sock yarn so I can definitely get a pair of socks. I'm considering ordering a couple of the other sets from Jimmy Beans that the LYS didn't have (Marimba and Piano, specifically).

And lastly, because I don't have enough needles...HiyaHiya Sharps in US #1.5. Woo. More sock needles!

Stash Enhancement: I'm losing another yarn store...buy all the things!

I mentioned this last week but I'm losing another yarn store here in California. The fourth in as many years. ::sigh:: Sooooo, I had to swing down there and buy all the things....twice.

This gloriousness is about 20 oz of 100% combed wool top from Lorna's Laces in the Zombie BBQ colorway. No idea when I'm going to get around to spinning it but it wanted to come home with me. It should be noted that on my second trip, the third and last 10 oz bump of this same fiber also came home (but has not been photographed yet because I'll have to do another Stash Enhancement post).

Looks a little familiar, doesn't it? Two skeins of Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock (self-stripe) in.........Zombie BBQ. I saw the fiber first and knew it wanted to come home...and then I saw the sock yarn and I couldn't have just one. ::sigh::

Two skeins of American Worsted from MJ Yarns, which I fell in love with the last time I was at Purlescense Yarns. ::sigh:: The top is Wisdom and the bottom is Glowing Eel. When I bought these two, I also checked out a hunter orange color......which came home with me on the second trip (again, that will be in another post).

And the last skein I picked up was Victory Sock from the Knitted Wit in Stargaven. It wants to be either socks or fingerless mitts but it hasn't decided yet. Oh well.


In addition to the fibery goods, a few non-fibery but still fiber-useful items came home...

Four circulars: two HiyaHiya Sharps, 32" US #1 (both); two ChaiGoo Lace, 16" US #6 and US #8

I'm running low on my wool wash. They didn't have any of the HUGE bottles left so I picked up a sampler pack of Eucalan and a couple small bottles of Soak. I've never actually used Soak so I'm trying something new.

And then I found these. Three books (out of four, so I'll need to find the last one): Stories in Stitches by Donna Druchunas & Ava Coleman.


WOO!

They don't close for a couple more weeks so there's a possibility that I'll be making a third trip. My second trip happened on Tuesday and Viktor got some needed attention. Turns out I'm not crazy and something is misaligned. I also learned that I've been treadling incorrectly since I got my wheel, which may also be part of the problem. In addition to that, I need to do some maintenance work (replacing some parts including my drive band, the polycord connector, my tension spring, and maybe my little yarn guide) but he got some oil and I got some lessons and I'll need to order some things, probably from Village Spinning & Weaving, and then I'll be ready to go again.

So, you know, happy Stash Enhancement :) I should have another post next week but we'll see how things go.
