Thirsty Thursday

After a whirlwind week where I had a bunch of posts (yes, the Third Annual Knit & Crochet Blog Week), I haven't felt the urge to sit and write much. Perhaps I'm letting things settle down...or not, since I'm writing right now.

Anyway, it's Thursday and when I was in college, that meant it was Thirsty Thursday. Of course, this had a much different connotation in college than it does in my life today, but it's still fun to think about. In college, particularly my last two years, Thursday nights were reserved for Divine Stein at Roscoe's (which now is, for lack of a better term, not where it's at - apparently people don't go to Roscoe's anymore...whatever). Basically, you bought a mug, the proverbial Divine Stein (that you could bring back week after week, hopefully cleaned by then and yes, I still have mine) and then you could drink beer for cheap all night (seriously, I think we're talking about $1/beer if you had your mug). First of all, I went to Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. There's not a whole lot to do there on a Thursday night. We were at least an hour away from a decent sized city (LaCrosse, Wisconsin and Rochester, Minnesota were at least an hour or more away; Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota - aka "The Cities" - were at least two hours away...and for that long of a ride, I may as well have driven home to Madison, Wisconsin). Secondly, we were in college and money was tight. So, Divine Stein was wonderful...even for those of us that didn't drink beer because beer served it's purpose. I was not (and am still not) a beer drinker. If that's all that's around, I'll drink it...but I'm really not a fan.

But, that's not what this post is about. I'm not going to tell you about my non-exploits of beer drinking either in my college years or in my life now (really, I don't drink beer that often, if ever, just as it was in college).

I am going to talk about the house, however.......

I don't know if any of you remember or not (and I can't find a post about it but that doesn't mean it's not there somewhere), but we had been wanting to get Little Man's room cleaned out and made into his own space...it's not that his room wasn't clean or anything but it was also housing the guest bed and a lot of things that shouldn't have been in there in the first place (like my wedding dress). So, in order to get to that point, we needed to take care of a few things first...like the office. The plan was to move the guest bed (and other assorted things) into the office and Little Man could have his very own room.

That has happened. Kind of. The guest bed is out of his room and his room is pretty much safe for him to play in. The things we don't want him to have are in an area where he can't get at them or climb up to them (yet). So, his room isn't finished but it's gotten a lot better. I really want to finish getting his room cleaned out of all things that are not his (so I don't have to use small, twist-pressure shower rods to hold his closet doors shut, among other things). Unfortunately, I need to work on the office, first so that I have a room where I can put all the things I take out of Little Man's room.

So, I've slowly been working on the office, box by box, shelf by shelf, bin by bin...I've taken several boxes to St. Vinny's and have thrown some things out and Freecycle and Craigslist are getting my postings. It's grand.

The only bad thing? I never feel like I'm going fast enough.

::sigh::

  1. I think it sounds like you're doing great! I know you had an awful lot of stuff, and it's brilliant that he has his own space. Plus, every little helps!

  2. After all the posting last week I didn't feel like posting much after that either. We need the breather from such a blog extravaganza :) Congrats on organizing his room! It's nice to get those big to-dos started. Does he like having more space now that the bed is out of the room?

  3. Kudos to you for diggin' in on this task. I need to get my butt in gear this summer to clean out our office so the older one has her own room. I've been procrastinating for 2 years now.
