WIP Wednesday

Happy Wednesday!

I've been participating in the Fourth Annual Knitting & Crochet Blog Week this week but this post isn't about that. I have some WIP Wednesday love to show you...but not the usual kind :)

I totally forgot to mention this on Sunday during my Self-Imposed Year of Projects update...but I've brought Viktor out for an affair. Viktor is my Majacraft Pioneer Spinning Wheel. He's been feeling extremely neglected, hidden away in a corner or a separate room ever since we moved to California last summer. Little Man was down for a nap and I thought I'd try to finish spinning some BFL from The Fairy Yarnmother. Like most of my fiber stash, I've had it for awhile. I believe it was a 4 oz. braid of hand-dyed fibery love. Awhile ago, before we moved into the house from apartment hell, I had split the braid in half and spun that up on a bobbin. So, I thought I'd spin the other half......except it wasn't half. I brought out my handy dandy yarn scale and weighed the first bobbin. I then weighed the second bobbin (without any fiber on it), figured out how much fiber I'd need to make them equal...and discovered that I was off by about .4 oz. So, I spun some more on the first one, then changed to the second one and spun on that. I actually finished spinning that up.

So, there they are, on the wheel, each one separately. And then, after they sat on their bobbins for a day, I plied the two of them together...then they sat on that bobbin for another day or so. I plied them together on Sunday afternoon, they sat on the bobbin until Monday afternoon, and then I put it on my handy dandy niddy-noddy.

It's got a bit more purple than what's showing up but I blame the fact that I had it sitting on blue sheets...so the blues came out more. Here's a close-up shot...you can see more of the purple here.

I have no idea how much I have or the yarn weight. I suspect it's in the neighborhood of 250 yds and is probably around a heavy sport/light worsted weight. It spent overnight Monday and most of Tuesday soaking in the sink. It got a good thwacking last night and is hanging to dry. Once it's dry, I'll put it on the swift and then wind it back onto the niddy-noddy, figuring out how much I have and the WPI (wraps per inch) along the way.

So, that's my WIP for this week. I think, as far as my other WIPs go, I'm going to frog Little Man's vest and start over. I want him to be able to wear it but I don't want to do all the math to make it larger. We'll see what happens. The worst thing is that I make it and wind up sending it to someone else with a smaller child...or keeping it, in case we have another one. Or not. Who knows. Everything else is just kind of static at this point.

Anyway, here are some other shots of recent events around our humble abode....

Daleks...

Legos....

And swinging! Oh my!

I hope you're all having a lovely Wednesday! I should be back next week with both a yarn review and a book review but we'll see what happens.

    1. Most of my fiber is BFL (well, the hand-dyed stuff anyway, the rest of it is wool but no idea what kind).

    1. The Dalek was something Husband found. He found a Dalek USB that Little Man wanted and since it was a toy for work, he couldn't have it. So, Husband found him that one :)
