OMGLSGWTFBBQ Lists

Challenges (this is new for 2019)
1. Knit 2 granny squares a month (average) until I'm out of yarn (for the Granny Square Blanket in my WIP list above - I started with four cakes, I've finished two and started the third...I bought a fifth, though, for more choices): I am ahead with this challenge as I have finished six squares squares and started the 7th...and that's good because February was a messy month and March is...well, the first half was busy...so, based on my average of two squares per month, I'm into April. And that's delightful (because March is still kind of messy)
2. Knit 1 dishcloth a month (average): I failed at this for January and February, meaning I need to make three this month to catch up....but we'll see how that goes, right? So far, I'm continuing to fail at this one. ::sigh:: Maybe in April I'll get it together?

The biggest thing over the last few days was the Pinewood Derby, which is an event for Cub Scouts, and it was yesterday. But we also had our Den Meeting this week (the boys made paper airplanes and we had a dad we know come in to talk to the boys about serving your country as a member of the armed forces) and Little Man had his swimming lessons and there was a PTA meeting and and and.....wow, I'm still really busy even though the auction is finished.

Anyway, Pinewood Derby was yesterday.

This is Little Man's car. I helped him draw the original cutout design and he had help cutting the actual shape (yeah, I'm not going to let my 8 year old near a jigsaw without help!) but he did most of the sanding himself and he did all the painting himself.

...and because there were a couple extra kits, we let Stormageddon make one, also. I helped him with the design & sanding (again, not letting my kid near a jigsaw without help for cutting it out) but he did all his painting himself.

There were, I think, fourteen cars in the competition (including Stormageddon's). So, we had fourteen heats. Little Man was not in the top four but he had fun and he has a cool car at the end.

For those of you that don't know what Pinewood Derby even is, it's a racing competition at the Cub Scout level (so kids that are approximately 6-10 years old). The kids are given a kit and there are specifications about size and weight requirements and such but the kids design cars and then they're raced down a track (all standardized across the organization). The heats are to determine which cars truly are the fastest because it forces each car to be on each of the four tracks and race every other car there. The top four cars go on to the Council level, and race against the other top cars from across the Council. I think it goes beyond that but I don't know much about it. This is the first year we've done it.

Other than Pinewood Derby, it was a fairly "normal" week around here. I did some yardwork yesterday, including mowing the lawn but also trimming up some bushes, pulling some weeds, and this and that that needed doing.

Found this little baby salamander when I was moving wood from our wood pile. It's not the first one I've found over the years. They tend to like our woodpiles. This is the first time I've found a baby, though. Usually, I find the adults. And yes, he's alive. He moved around while I was holding the piece of wood to show Stormageddon through the bedroom window. So, I expect I'll see this one again sometime.

Anyway, it's mid-morning on Sunday, which means I'm getting better about posting, right?

I hope you've all had a lovely week and weekend :)

  1. I like the sound of the derby. How fun for the boys. What do Girl Scouts do that's similar?
