I would love to say that I spent so much time knitting this week. I'd be lying, of course, but I would love to say it for once.

With that said, I did make some progress...on maybe one or two projects. I worked on the Minecraft Socks this week and I think I've got 3 of the 5 pattern repeats done on the leg. I think there are 11 pattern repeats total so I'm really not that far along but I have worked on them.

I also pulled out the Sand Drift Blanket. I'm about this far along:

Considering that it's 185 stitches across, this is actually some decent progress. The rows take me awhile to complete and it's something like two-color linen stitch. It's kind of therapeutic and methodical so it's not bad to work on, other than the rows taking forever.

I may have also worked in either the Vanilla Socks or the Linen Stitch Scarf but not a lot and I honestly don't remember if that's true or not. Oh well.

This week, I came down with something unpleasant. I'm not entirely sure what it was other than some sort of stomach bug that only I managed to get. We had McDonald's for lunch one day this week and it just did not sit well with me. I was sick for like three days and I'm still not 100% but at least I'm hungry now. That's how you know I'm really sick is when I don't want to eat. I just was not hungry and my stomach was mad and my guts were mad and my body was just angry with me. It seriously took a few days to get it out of my system. Thankfully, no one else got it (even though they all had McDonald's, too). I was miserable.

So, that's part of why I didn't get a lot of knitting accomplished this past week.

We had other things happening, as well. The boys had a Materials Pickup Day on Friday, which meant that we went to the school to drop off finished work and pick up new work. I also took Stormageddon on a car ride down to Walmart and then to Target to do pickup orders. Little Man rode his bike to school on Friday so he didn't come in the car with us. I also had a PTA Board Meeting this week, which kind of gave me a headache, if truth be told. We were talking about next years' budget and it kind of makes me crazy. I'm glad I don't have to make any of those hard decisions (other than voting for them at our budget meeting, which is probably in March). I also went to a Principal Coffee Chat yesterday, which was mostly about the reopening plan for Hybrid Learning, currently slated for March 1st with the Kinders & 1st graders. Neither Little Man nor Stormageddon will be going back for in-person learning until fall, at the earliest (and that depends on how vaccine rollout goes), but it's still important to know the plan, even if we are not partaking in it.

Mostly, this week was just kind of a jumble. Stormageddon spent some time coloring, per his occupational therapist.

He was asked to lay on his belly to color the above photo, which he happily did. The photo below, he taped the picture to his wall and colored it that way. Both are good for hand and upper-body strength needed for writing.

Yesterday, the boys went out on their bikes for a bit. Stormageddon needs his seat raised already! He's still using trainers, which is fine because he's only six. Right now, he's learning how to be aware of his surroundings, pedaling, and turning.

Little Man is fine, but he wanted to ride with his little brother. So we rode on the side of our house. There's a dead-end there so we rarely get traffic, except for people parking their cars or that work for the tree trimming company that PG&E uses (all their trucks are parked on the PG&E lot).

This morning, Stormageddon wanted to play a round of Twister. He's so funny. I don't think he quite understands that your butt isn't supposed to be on the floor.  He did get himself pretty twisted up, regardless.

This last photo (below) is of Little Man's Mission: Mission San Francisco de Asis, also known as Mission Dolores. We are going to redo the base and some of the tape and such but it's pretty much finished. He needs to do the cemetery and we'll fix the steps going into the basilica. Now we just need to work on his paper, which shouldn't be that difficult if we just work on it. He seems to like this project, for the most part. The other day, he and I had an impromptu history lesson that started with the treatment of Native people in the 1870s (because they're reading Little House on the Prairie for school), the Homestead Act of 1862, the importance of religion and how that has changed throughout time, King Henry VIII and his wives, and back to colonizer treatment of Native peoples. We included going over some of the work for his Mission project because the Native people of California were "converted" to Catholicism through the Missions, forced to do the labor at the Missions (and Parasidios), children were sent to the Mission school, and they were punished, often severely, if they tried to revert back to their Native ways or leave the Mission. Honestly, Mission history is a hot mess. So much wrong in the name of religion (hence how a lot of the discussion started in the first place).

Aside from that, it's been a pretty benign week. I'm hoping that more exciting things are coming but really, we're in a pandemic. We get up, do our thing, hardly leave the house, and call it good. I don't know what all else we can really do at this point until the vaccination rollout is better organized. We'll see.

I hope you've had a lovely week and weekend!

  3. Sorry to hear about your sickness, not a good reason at all to be less productive than normal. But the socks and the blanket are cool (185 stitches?! Each row would take me an age.) Heck, homeschooling is enough of an accomplishment these days! I hope next week is healthier for you and you get more time to do things you enjoy.

  4. Virtual learning starts next week here. My family will be sitting out this quarter, but will revisit the possibility for April. Having the kids home every day is nice, but I don't feel nearly as productive as I did last year when I had about 2 hours to get things accomplished!

  5. I hope you feel back to normal this week. It’s great that you are teaching your boys about the history and giving a balanced view of religion. For sure a lot of harm around the world has been done in the name of religion and against other religions. I had to remind myself you live in California when I saw the outside cycling photos...so easy to forget you don’t really have winter there.

  6. LM's mission is awesome. I can't wait to read what his teacher thought of it. Good luck! Putty sounds fun to play with. I used to get the pink kind as a kid and flatten it on comics to make a news print.
