I'm going to warn you, I'm writing this post a few days in advance so a few things might wind up wonky and, you know, sorry...
I have a friend here from Wisconsin this weekend, mostly on business. He flew in on Thursday, drove to Sacramento for his job duties, came here on Friday, and he's here until Tuesday when he has to fly back to Wisconsin. So.....yeah, that's why I'm writing this up early (and it'll post at it's usual time).

I finished the baby sweater on Wednesday...meaning I had bound off, wove in all the ends, and seamed the arms/armpits. Currently, it's sitting on the bathroom counter, drying/blocking. I imagine that will be done in a couple days. For all the details, you can visit Friday's post.

Of course I'm thinking of my next project...and I haven't decided what that will be yet. But, to better aid the decision, I pulled out some more yarn that was ready to be used for a project. I also pulled out a bunch of partial balls of yarn. I'm thinking that the remnant yarn will probably be used for things like baby hats but I have yarn from some larger projects that are on my list. We'll see what happens. I have a feeling that the next few projects I'll work on are for small children. I might be wrong, though. I don't know...I haven't decided!

In other random life events, I've been summoned for jury duty. ::sigh:: I don't even want to talk about it but let's just say that I'm not happy.

FO Friday: The Baby Sweater Edition
Happy Friday!
I'mshocked awed pleased to announce that I have something worthy of a FO Friday post! I wasn't quite expecting to have one this week but, well, things happened and things were finished, and that is that.
So, what do I have for you today?
Pattern: Baby Boy 5-Hour Sweater by Gail Bable
Time Frame: started January 16, 2014; finished January 29, 2014
Yarn: 95.5 yds of Patons Pure Organic in 20206 (blue green purple) & 120.9 yds of Lion Brand Cotton Ease in Snow
Needles: US #9 (5.5 mm) long circular of some sort...I know it's an Addi circular but I don't know the length offhand.
Size: The only available size is 0-3 months but...
Modifications: I made several little modifications to this pattern. The original pattern is one color and I made mine with stripes (switching after row 9 and then after every 8th row). There were no directions for buttonholes in the pattern and, as such, I did not do them. That's not really a modification but more of a note to anyone that wants to make this one. I added length to the body for extra length and to keep the stripes consistent (I went to 24 rows in stockinette before switching to garter). The seaming of the sleeves was done after I finished the everything else. It wasn't specified in the pattern but I did all the bind offs as purl bind offs. Also, the needles recommended are US #10.5 (6.5 mm) and I went smaller.
Thoughts: I haven't actually measured this sweater but it looks a tad bigger than the 0-3 month size. So, I'm guessing it's either 3-6 months or even 6-9 months. Also, I'm glad I didn't go with the recommended needle size. I think the stitches would be too loose and that's not good for little baby fingers. If I were to make it again (and I could), I would sit with the pattern and figure out where the buttons would need to go and plan accordingly. There are a few things I would also consider doing differently, including doing the sleeves in the round to avoid seaming. I dislike seaming immensely and I think I could do the sleeves in the round and only have some minimal stitching to do at the end. It's a cute pattern and is pretty well-written so it would be perfect for a beginner. It also churns out a cute little baby sweater. It can also be a great stashbuster project as it doesn't take up much yarn at all (seriously, I used maybe 225 yds of worsted weight yarn - and that was with added length).
Anyway, that's all I have for you today. Perhaps I'll have my Baby Surprise Jacket finished next week (all I have left to do is the dreaded seaming and buttons). I'll link up with Tami as soon as I can (if you haven't noticed, she's been....well, inconsistent the last few weeks, really).

Y3: Self-Imposed Year of Projects - Update #3
Happy Sunday :)
Today marks my third update in my third Self-Imposed Year of Projects. It doesn't mean anything cool and grand...it's just fun to say third and third in the same sentence.
Anyway, let's get going with the updates...

Apparently I thought five WIPs wasn't enough and I started another project this week. I've had the Five Hour Baby Sweater in my queue since May. I never thought I'd actually get around to it but I have friends having babies that should be snuggled in handknit sweaters. So, I'm making one. This one happens to have stripes and it's knitting up quite quickly. It's done top-down so I'm at the point where I've divided for the sleeves...and that's just lovely.
I also worked on Milo this week. I've just started the cabling and stockinette section so I'm maybe halfway through this vest. I hope I have enough yarn. I also picked up my Baby Surprise Jacket and counted fourteen rows before I bind off...but then I worked a couple rows. So, I have about a dozen rows and then I bind off and sew the sleeves and add buttons. Or something. I'm not actually adding buttons so that's fine.
Soooooooo, that's where I am right now :)
