13. Come Sail Away: started 17 October 2020

Admittedly, I didn't work on a lot this week. I worked on the Linen Stitch Scarf during some of Stormageddon's meetings. I didn't make a ton of progress because it's one of those projects that just takes awhile, no matter how much you work on it. And I'm not even knitting it side to side! I cannot imagine how much longer it would take if I were knitting it side to side.

I also pulled out the Come Sail Away baby blanket. I'm maybe 1/3 of the way through the last block and I have plenty of yarn left. So, I've got that going for me. I worked on that yesterday during our bi-monthly Principal Coffee Chat. Since I'm the PTA Secretary, I have to take notes during all the Board & Association meetings so I can't knit. But the Principal Coffee Chats? Those I can knit through (and do). I only managed a few rows but it was a few rows. I also worked on it last night after dinner, so I've made some good progress. I'm still on target to have it done before Christmas.

Aside from that, there was no other knitting. I did ponder whether I should start another pair of Rose City Rollers and I probably will. I have a good amount of partial skeins that I could probably squeak a pair out of. Maybe. We'll see. Maybe after I finish that blanket...

Because we're now in December, I've started thinking about planning for my TENTH Self-Imposed Year of Projects. I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do. I think I'll probably be spending the next few weeks mulling it all over in my mind, maybe in writing somewhere....but it's already rolling a little bit. I only have a couple more weeks to go! I did take a hot minute to look at the 2021 calendar to see how many Sundays were hanging out so I could see if I had space to do a wrap-up post for the year and it turns out that, no, no I cannot do that for 2020 or 2021. Well, I shouldn't say that I can't do it but it won't be on a Sunday. It will probably have to be its own separate post sometime between the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021...like maybe New Years' Eve or something. I don't know. Whatever, it's still a few weeks out and I have time to mull it all over in my brain.

In more tangible events, Husband is feeling significantly better. He had his stitches out on Friday and he's much happier for it. It was starting to itch. Unfortunately, they had to remove some scabs to get at the stitches so he was kind of grumpy on Friday because his ear hurt. His leg is also healing up really well and is, of course, super itchy. He's getting around much better, as well, though he's got chronic back issues so while he's still gimping around quite a bit, he's significantly better than he was.

Last week was a bit of a marathon in some ways. The boys had their usual meetings but I also had some additional meetings. Both boys have Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), which is a thing in the US for kids with "disabilities." And I put that in quotes because when people think of disabilities, they think of physical things they can see and that can be fixed of modified. Stormageddon has an IEP for speech therapy and occupational therapy. Little Man has it for occupational therapy and access to the resource room and math, because of his ADHD. It's not a big deal but we have to revisit it ever year and this year, I had them scheduled one right after the other. Wednesday was a long day. Two and a half hours of rather intense meetings about my kids....yeah. I think I was still trying to recover on Thursday.

Aside from that, I can't say a lot happened this week. I only have a few pictures. Like I said a couple of weeks ago, Little Man is kind of getting to that age where he doesn't want me to take photos anymore. I still sneak them. But not this week. This week, I have a couple of Stormageddon.

During PE this week, Stormageddon drew a Lego picture (don't worry, it was part of his class). They would do some exercises, draw a piece of the picture, do some more exercises, draw the next piece, and so on until it was done. And then he added some more embellishments, like the grass and the sun. Whatever, it worked for him. And he actually tried to pay attention in PE.

He and I also played a couple rounds of Jenga. For being six years old, he's pretty good. Usually, he just wants to use them like Dominoes to knock over but that day, he wanted to play properly. So, I sat down with him on the living room floor and we played Jenga.

I hope this week is a little less busy, and based on my calendar, it looks like that will be true. Of course, that never really holds true so we'll just have to wait and see. Something like that.

I hope you've had a lovely week and weekend!

  1. My kids are OBSESSED with Jenga some weeks! My youngest likes to challenge himself to build the tower all by himself. My older will actually play sometimes. My kids are 5 and 6.
Hope your week is a little less chaotic! Happy to hear the husband is healing up after his mishap.

  2. Question - being new to the group is there something special about the end of the year wrap up post. I also do calendar year even though I joined in July. I was planning a simple here's what I planned to do in 2020 and here's what I actually did.

Hope you get a chance to do some relaxing knitting. You have such a busy household. Also I promise one post this week. I keep thinking my post didn't go through and I write a second one. Silly me.

  3. Whatever day you post your wrap up for the year can you share the link in our Ravelry team so I don’t miss it. I’m glad your husband is feeling better and recovering well. If you are short on time even a pictorial post is lovely to see with what you’ve made and you have quite a bit on your FO list this year. How you find the time always amazes me.
