Admittedly, I have finished some things...specifically, I dyed some things. But since there were never entries in Ravelry, I have no project pages and, honestly, I haven't even photographed them yet. I really should, though, because one of them is a sock blank and I'm itching to start knitting on it and, really, I'm worried that I'm going to start without having photographed it....perhaps a project for later this week.

Also, I finished my new needle box. I finished the painting a couple weeks ago and it was varnished (which gave me a nasty headache and that was strange because it was a liquid paint, not an aerosol). And then it sat and dried and continued to sit. But it's done and now the needles are in it and that's grand and lovely.

Works-in-Progress (WIPs):

4. Smooth Operator Socks: started October 13, 2016
5. Morvarch Aardvark: started January 1, 2017
6. Stomping Grounds collection: started February 26, 2017 (no project page)
7. Hat Design: started March 20, 2017
8. Vanillaish Rainbow Socks: started June 1, 2017
9. Twilight Socks (from blanks): started June 8, 2017
10. Garter Stitch Baby Blanket: started July 6, 2017
11. Veggie Socks: started July 6, 2017

So, knitting this week......I did some!

My Veggie Socks are continuing down to the toe decrease section. I probably only have 10 rounds before that point but I'm just not quite there yet.

The Garter Stitch Baby Blanket is continuing to grow. I'm almost through the first ball of yarn. I hope it turns out baby blanket sized but we'll see how things are progressing after I get through my second ball of yarn. I might have to tout it as a doll blanket. ::sigh:: But, it's growing and I'm getting yarn out of my stash and that's important.

The Vanillaish Rainbow Socks are...well, I've knit a few rounds on the cuff of the second one. Not much in the way of progress but a few rounds still equate to a small amount of progress, right?

While I was doing some cleaning this week (to make room for the new needle box), I found a big fat envelope that had my Fall in San Francisco design proposal inside....which means a huge purple swatch that was knit flat (which was difficult for me to brain at the time), and an orange baby hat (a full prototype).......so, that was an interesting find. I might get back around to actually designing it and writing the pattern and sending it off to my tech editor (or a tech editor if mine doesn't have time).....yeah. The good news is that I found it. The bad news is that it's no closer to being finished. ::sigh::

And lastly, Wink saw some action this week. I even fixed the mistake I found a few weeks ago, the last time I worked on it. It's a slow-going process because I'm working from a 10-row chart repeat and an 8-row increase repeat at the same time...so I have post-its and notes galore for this one. If I'm not interrupted, I'm fine...but if I have distractions, it doesn't work too well. So, late night knitting for the win....I think.

Moving along.....

This past week has been bonkers in our house. It started out last Sunday evening. I had previously mentioned that Stormageddon was running phantom fevers with a snotty nose. It came to a head last Sunday when he woke up from a nap and had a fever of over 106ºF......which I swore had to be wrong so I checked it on myself and it was normal, checked it on Little Man and it was normal, rechecked it on Stormageddon and it was still that high. So, I picked him up and took him into the pediatric urgent care. I thought for sure that the thermometer had to be wrong or malfunctioning...but they also recorded a fever of over 105ºF, and various other high temperatures using various placements and types of thermometers (under the arm, under the other arm, across the forehead, a different one across the forehead....). All of them were high.

He had calmed down considerably by this point but he was still running a nasty fever. No other symptoms. His ears looked fine. His throat was a little red but not overly concerning. They ran a strep test to be safe, which came back negative. So, we have no idea what was causing the fevers...possibly molars coming in but we're not sure because he wouldn't let either the doctor or me get a good look or feel in his mouth. So, we had nothing to go on and it was basically a "wait and see" approach, knowing he had his post-op appointment with his ENT on Wednesday.

Monday was spent around the house because Stormageddon still wasn't feeling too well. I worked on a bunch of stuff for the auction, the boys played and watched TV and played some more. Kind of a boring day but what are you going to do? As it turns out, Stormageddon was still into randomly falling asleep in the bed next to me.

You can see how red his face is from the fever. Poor baby boy :(

On Tuesday, I was supposed to have jury duty at 8:30am. I checked in on Monday night and I had a "call back" status, meaning I had to recheck at 11:15am on Tuesday but didn't have to report. When I rechecked, I was informed that I was not needed. So, Husband had a work-from-home day because I was supposed to maybe be gone. Oh well. At least Stormageddon was feeling a little better by then.

.....however, it didn't stop him from randomly napping next to me in the bed.

His ENT appointment on Wednesday was fine. His ears looked good, his throat was fine, he didn't even really have a shotty nose.

Thursday, we took Husband and our friend Thom to the airport. They're in Wisconsin for Beerfest The Great Taste of the Midwest. It was yesterday but they flew in on Thursday and they're supposed to fly back tomorrow night. Except they're not (more on that in a bit). So, we took them to the airport, went out for breakfast, and then went over to one of the parks for a playdate with friends.

The playdate would have been all fine and well but Little Man tested some physical limits and we wound up having to go to the doctor. There's a climbing structure that weaves around like a snake with some rope netting between two very large, round poles and when you get to the end, you either have to turn around and come back or jump down. For a 10-12 year old kid, the jump wouldn't have been so bad....but Little Man isn't even 7 years old, though he's bigger than many 8 year olds I know. The first time he did it, he was fine. He landed perfectly. To be fair, it was maybe a 6' drop with a good pile of wood chips under to cushion the jump. I could grab onto the bar while standing under it. When he did it the second time, he did it from a different spot, which was higher up (probably a 7' drop because I couldn't reach the bar he was on)...and underneath was a sizable, rounded out divot in the wood chips........and he landed squarely on his butt. He basically gave his entire back a shock from his coccyx to the top of his head. The wind was knocked out of him from the pain and the hard landing. He hopped up immediately, screaming and holding his back and butt and waddled over to me where he wound up laying on his back for maybe 20 minutes before I could get him into an extremely painful sitting position (he was crying because it hurt to sit up). Luckily, we had friends with us to help me keep an eye on Stormageddon and to help us get everyone/thing to the car to go to the doctor. I took him from the park to the doctor's office. He didn't break anything but he knocked himself completely out of whack. So, the rest of Thursday was a lazy day involving iPads, movies, and general laziness. He also missed swimming lessons...again.

And, of course, Stormageddon fell asleep in the bed next to me for a late afternoon nap....with his headphones on.

And then that night, he climbed into bed with me to sleep, too. It's much easier to share a bed with him while Husband is gone because he just sleeps in Husband's spot.

On Friday, this happened:

Mah hairs changed color. It's been about three months and it's grown about 2" so my roots were bad....and now I'm different. There's purple underneath and it goes from a dark blue to aqua to the green and the underside goes from a dark purple toward a magentaish color.

When I got home, the boys and I ran errands and Little Man had one of his four make-up swimming lessons. Between the not-broken arm and his back, he had four lessons to make up for. So, he had one on Friday afternoon and one yesterday. He has the other two this week (Wednesday and Friday; his normal lesson is also on Thursday).

Little Man has been playing with his Legos quite a bit more lately.....which is probably due, in part, to us putting a severe cap on the amount of time the boys play on the iPads. They turn into little zombies who want everything and don't listen. Husband and I were both sick of it so we put a cap on the amount of time....and suddenly, Little Man is more creative with his Legos :)

Apparently that's Bowser (as in King Koopa from Super Mario Bros.).

And, to end the week: a boy and his dog.

I hope you've all had a lovely weekend. I might be back sometime this week with dyeing adventures but I haven't decided yet....

Not A WIP Wednesday

First and foremost: HAPPY HALLOWE'EN

Normally, Wednesdays are reserved for WIP Wednesday and I had an idea in my head of showing you my shawl and my socks (now that I've turned the heel and am working on the heel decreases)...but it just wasn't meant to be.

I have a sick little boy at home. He's not so sick that we're heading to the hospital or anything but it has meant that the last few days have been miserable. He's just got a cold but it means copious amounts of ick eschewing from his nose, coughing, sneezing, and occasional pukes from coughing. Oh, and he still doesn't want to nap through it all. ::sigh::

So, I had this grand idea to show you a couple of my WIPs and that's just not going to happen today.

I will, hopefully, be back on Friday for a FO Friday...it kind of depends on how Little Man is feeling and if I can get in a proper photo shoot before then.

I'll probably also post photos of Little Man in his Hallowe'en costume at some point either Friday or Sunday (though I'm leaning toward Sunday)...if I can get a good shot of him. That shouldn't be too difficult but we'll see.

Anyway, I hope you're all having a lovely week! Sandy be damned!

A Life Less Filled with Husband....

Let's see.....aside from my usual Self-Imposed Year of Projects updates on Sunday, I've been rather quiet as of late.

Husband left for California last Thursday. I've been without him for a week. It feels like a month or a year...definitely more than a week. They took a sort of roundabout way to get to San Francisco. "They" being my husband and a friend of his, known in this house as "Uncle Joe." Anyway, they drove straight through to Denver last Thursday. On Friday, they went from Denver, through Utah (which is apparently more boring to drive through than Nebraska), down to the Grand Canyon, and then to Las Vegas. On Saturday, they drove from Las Vegas to Los Angeles and stayed with a friend there (he was best man when Husband and I got married). They finally got to San Francisco on Sunday. With the holiday on Monday, he didn't actually start his new job until Tuesday.

With Husband leaving me to pack up the house, Little Man had to go into daycare. He's never been in daycare. We had no idea how he'd react. He definitely wasn't happy about it and he definitely took it out on us.

And then along came last Friday morning. With Friday morning came a couple episodes of puking and a fever. That means Little Man earned himself a trip to the emergency room. Because of his metabolic disorder (VLCAD), if he can't keep food down, he needs to be put on an IV.

So, we spent a few hours in the emergency room on Friday. We were told that he had a viral infection and that it should start going away on its own. Translation: he has a cold, stop being a panicky parent. I have license to be a panicky parent because of his metabolic disorder. I know he has a cold. He's puking and that's the problem.

Anyway, moving on. Little Man spent Friday afternoon at home with me, mucking up my schedule and getting me sick in the process.

Mama's sick little boy, busy watching "Sherlock" on PBS

Saturday, we spent a lot of time cuddling on the couch watching copious amounts of Shaun the Sheep and having lots of Gatorade with Polycose powder added (extra sugar, basically). Sunday afternoon, after his nap, Little Man spiked a nasty fever. It was 101.4°F at home. And then he started dry heaving. So, another trip to the emergency room. At the emergency room, his fever had further spiked to 103.2°F. We spent almost seven hours in the ER on Sunday. They had an awful time getting the IV line in, then the blood for the lab tests coagulated and we didn't find out until about four hours later, then they couldn't get blood from the IV line and had to call in the IV team to run a new IV line, then we were still there for another two hours. It was a mess and I was not pleased with it. I was also a little miffed because they kept telling me that it was just a viral infection. Um....if it was a viral infection he should have been getting better, not worse, by that point.

Mama, the ER makes me sleepy...

After the IV team put in the second IV (the splint was to keep from breaking it)

We spent Monday doing a fair amount of cuddling but we also did some playing and he was starting to act a little more normally. Tuesday, I took him to daycare. He was fine. He played. He coughed on all his friends. He had plenty of boogers. He brought home half the sandbox. The usual. Yesterday, I took him to daycare and went to go to a workout before I started cleaning. He was only there a little over an hour when I got the call that he had spiked a fever again and was refusing food.

I picked him up and took him home. He ate like a little piggy for me but he still had a fever so I called the local clinic and said he needed to be seen today (which was yesterday). They had an opening at 2pm and we took it. In the meantime, I called the metabolic doctor's office and let them know what was going on and that I was not, under any circumstances, going back to the emergency room with him. They were okay with that as long as he was eating, and he was.

When we got to the new pediatrician's office, we talked about what was going on and then she started checking him over. No wheezing, plenty of coughing and snot, all typical of a cold. Then she looked in his left ear and said, "that's not good." Not something you want to hear from a doctor. She said he definitely had an ear infection in that ear. She looked in the other ear and said, "well, no wonder you're cranky." He has a double ear infection. That's most likely what caused the fever spike. She ordered a script of Amoxicillin for him and said if he wasn't feeling better in a day or two that I should bring him back in.

I took him to daycare today. He was fine. He played with his friends. He made poop and boogers. No fever. Ate like a little piggy.

And all the while, I'm still snotting out my nose, coughing, and feeling generally miserable. I'd rather be sick than have him sick, though. Husband has asked a couple times if I want him to come home and I keep telling him, "no" because I don't want him to get sick or screw up his new job or any of that.

Needless to say...I'm stressed out.

At least he's not stressed out.

I'll be back on Sunday with a Self-Imposed Year of Projects update.......though I'm pretty sure nothing has really changed. Oh well.

Self-Imposed Year of Projects: Update #21

Another Sunday, another Self-Imposed Year of Projects update, right? I'm headed into my twenty-first week. I figured out that I'm exactly six months behind the regular group.

Not that it matters. It was just grand to know.

FINISHED OBJECTS
1. Claudia: started January 3, 2012; finished January 10, 2012
2. Mama's Simple Skyp Socks: started May 22, 2011; finished January 9, 2012
3. Little Man's Cobblestone Baby Blanket: started July 2010; finished February 2, 2012
4. Dalek Dishcloth: started February 6, 2012; finished February 8, 2012
5. Baby Traveling Vines Socks: started September 18, 2010; finished February 17, 2012
6. Snail Hat: started February 18, 2012; finished February 19, 2012
7. Lothlorien Hat: started January 25, 2012; finished March 5, 2012
8. Habitat Hat: started April 10, 2012; finished May 8, 2012

Again, nothing has changed here. And that's perfectly fine.

WORKS-IN-PROGRESS
1. Little Man's Giraffe: started May 11, 2011
2. Icarus Shawl: Started March 15, 2010
3. Honey Badger Don't Give a Shit Socks: started January 23, 2012
4. Pine Forest Baby Blanket: started February 21, 2012
5. Hermione's Everyday Socks: started March 6, 2012
6. Sweet Girl's Hippo: started May 10, 2012

I've got probably thirteen repeats and the border rows left on the blanket. I worked on it a little bit the other night after Little Man went to bed. I'm also plugging along on the Hippo. I brought it to my allergy shot a few days ago and I'm almost ready to start the decreases on the body...which means I'm probably going to have to head to JoAnn Fabrics and Walgreens to pick up a few supplies. I have stuffing but I need to get some polypellets (from JoAnn's) and some knee-high nylons (to put said polypellets in). I'm still working on the double gusset heel on the first of my Everyday Socks and I'll finish that soon. I should just do that. Perhaps tonight after Little Man goes to bed.

PLANNED HATS
1. Hermione Hearts Ron
2. Ogre Babies!
3. NIN Hat
4. Brandon Ribbed Beanie
5. Godric's Hollow Hat
6. Raglan Hat
7. Bergen Street Tuque
8. Nolan
9. Simple Baby Cap #1
10. Candy Cane
11. Little Pumpkin

OTHER PLANNED PROJECTS
1. Freeport Vest
2. My Little Slug
3. Shaun (as in Shaun the Sheep)
4. Curly Snake
5. Penelope the Empathetic Monster
6. A new version of my Vanilla Socks, perhaps in a worsted weight...
7. Adipose (I have it somewhere; this is my Ravelympics 2012 project for Team Tardis, by the way)

I think I've figured out what I'm going to do about my planned projects. I have some two-gallon ziplock bags and I think I'm going to use one bag per project on the larger ones or ones that come from the same source (like putting the yarn, needles, and book that I'll be using for the Simple Baby Cap, Candy Cane, and Little Pumpkin hats all into the same bag). Then I'll put the bags into a bin of their own, probably with other knitting supplies that I may or may not need and make sure that doesn't wind up in storage. We'll see.

Anyway, the totals are the same, again...

FOs: 8 projects
WIPs: 6 projects
Planned: 18 projects
TOTAL: 32 projects

Now, for an update on my "real" life. Little Man started daycare last Monday and things were going okay. He's come home with half the sandbox in his diaper and shoes, he's been playing nicely with the other toddlers, he's even taking naps.......and then he got the plague. I knew he was going to get sick but I was hoping that a visit to the hospital wouldn't happen as a result. Sadly, that wasn't to be the case. He woke up Friday morning, earlier than usual, running a low-grade fever, congested, coughing, and snot dribbling out his nose. Great. I gave him some of his milk and he threw it all up. Okay, not a big deal yet. He had another couple of ounces a little while later....and threw it all up.

That's a problem.

"Normal" kids can handle this somehow. Little Man, however, cannot because of his metabolic disorder. So, I called the metabolic doctor on call and they said I should bring him in to the emergency room. Luckily, they were pretty much ready for us. A lot has changed since the first time we brought him into the ER a little over a year ago. Anyway, they ran all the normal things like his weight, temperature, pulse oxygen, heart rate...and then he had an EKG, some blood tests (acyl-carnitine levels, blood glucose, CBC, etc.), and an IV of D10 (which isn't what they would normally give - normally, they'd give D5). We were there from about 8:30am-noon. When it was all said and done, his labs and tests were normal and we were allowed to go home on the condition that we use his "sick" protocol until he's feeling mostly normal again. That means that I'm getting up in the middle of the night every 3-4 hours to feed him, plus giving him "light" things like juice, crackers, plain noodles...basically what anyone wants when they're sick.

He just has a cold.....but the mucus was making him throw up.

As long as he's not throwing up and isn't running a fever, things are fine.

So, we've been having lots of cuddles, lots of Shaun the Sheep, lots of juice, and that's about it.

Husband left Thursday morning for California. He missed all the fun.

::sigh:: If it isn't one thing, it's another.

I hope you all had a lovely week :)

Well......s#@%

Whatever ickyness Little Man has/had, he's decided to be a good and loving boy and share it with his mama.

I spent last night throwing up and other things, didn't get much sleep (if any)....it wasn't pleasant and the thought of eating anything makes me queasy. Oh, and before you ask, no, I'm not pregnant. Unfortunately, Husband had to go in to work at least for this morning because he has a new temp starting. Hopefully he'll come home around noon. That'd be nice...

Thirsty Thursday...

In college, Thursdays were "Divine Stein" night at 'Scoes. I only partook in this adventure a few times in my later years of college. I wasn't a beer drinker so it had to be a special occasion that I would sit and drink beer.

Today is a different kind of Thirsty Thursday. I've been sick with a cold and because my nose is draining at night, my throat hurts. To combat this, I've been drinking hot lemonade or hot Tang mixed with hot lemonade...or anything hot, like coffee but not tea. It's been helping my throat feel better but I need the runny nose to go away. I've been taking DayQuil and NyQuil, though not as diligently as I should be. I'm almost at the point where I'm considering taking my allergy medication because I know that will work to relieve my runny nose.

Otherwise, today is a random day. I'm cleaning and doing laundry in between Little Man's naps and bottles and diaper changes. Needless to say, I haven't gotten very far on cleaning in the bedroom but laundry is plugging along, probably because I don't have to watch it constantly. I'm hoping to go do a Curves workout when Husband gets home from work but we'll see. If I'm feeling like crap, that may not happen. Or maybe it will anyway. We'll see.

I was hoping to work on my Knitters' Guild Brown Bag Exchange project but I don't think that's going to happen today. I've finished the body up until where the sleeves will be added and I'm almost done with the first sleeve. Once the sleeves are done, I can work on putting it all together and finishing it. I'm going to need help with that because I've never made a sweater this way before. Luckily, I know plenty of people that can and will help me :)

Yes, I should post pictures. No, I'm not going to. Sorry.

Happy, sick Tuesday.....

Yes, it's true. I've come down with the common winter ailment known as "the cold." Runny nose, sneezing, some coughing...ick. Luckily, Little Man seems fine at this point. I'm not too thrilled with being sick but, I don't really have much choice at this point either. I'm just going to have to let it run it's course.

I've stared a spreadsheet that will catalog all my yarn. I've gotten through the first two bins worth...but I have six bins total, and some drawers full...and a basket...and some bags...

I think I have a problem.

Anyway, that's part of my NYRs so I don't feel so bad that I'm taking some time to do it. And I'm sick. I think maybe some lunch is in order at this point...I like lunch :)

Sickies

I've been sick for over a week now. I woke up Sunday to a sore throat, congestion, coughing (and not the nice, quiet kind), and general exhaustion. One of my coworkers got sick a few days prior to that and I think that's probably where I got it (especially considering that almost all the rest of my coworkers with the same age group got it). Sadly, while everyone else was getting better, I proceeded to get worse and worse. I went to get an allergy shot on Tuesday of last week and was told I couldn't have one. My allergist looked me over and said I had a cold and I should wait a day. I had my OB appointment (5 months) the next morning and she said the same thing (BTW: I also got my allergy shot that same day)...just a cold. Either way, I started getting worse. By Thursday morning, I couldn't breathe well, was coughing constantly, was blowing gobs of green, and generally felt like crap. I called my doctor's office and I wound up getting a prescription for a Z-pak. From the sounds of it, I either had bronchitis or a sinus infection (I'm betting a sinus infection, judging by the color of the icky green spewing from my nose). So, I called in to my summer job on Friday and missed Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday morning at the restaurant. It was a long weekend. Today, I'm at about 85% good...still coughing a bit here and there and there's ick in my throat but I can breathe!

So, hopefully, all is well.

Aside from that, I started working on my baby blanket last week. It's one I'm designing myself so we'll see how it goes. I have an idea of what I want it to look like. I'm hoping that it turns out how my head is envisioning it. When I get somewhere substantial, I'll post pictures. Until then, you're just going to have to wait :)
